Actually it wasn't obvious, the only reason we know is because we saw the full story behind their barking.. if a random stray started barking/tugging/whining at you the first thing you think it might be is hunger (which is why they gave them some food) but then it started running away, so obviously the people went about their day. I agree that throwing things and wrongfully killing the dog was a horrible solution. But then again it looks like older times where kicking animals was "okay".
@heartofthewild680
@heartofthewild680 3 жыл бұрын
@@myladarnell8201 anyone who knows anything about dogs knows that they’re very intelligent. If a dog comes barking at you and then barking in a specific direction before running in that direction, it’s trying to show you something. This behavior has been seen time and time again, and it always means the same thing: that something is wrong and the dog is trying to show you so you can help.
@quinnthefox3846
@quinnthefox3846 3 жыл бұрын
@@myladarnell8201 I wouldn't be so sure. Dogs are quite intelligent animals; trained service dogs are often taught to go to other people when they can no longer assist their owners without outside help. Though this dog is not trained, there are many nonverbal cues to signify that the dog needed someone to follow. The animation made a point of this; the dog was in a sort of "point" position many times, in which he constantly was barking, then turning a direction, and repeating the process.

Not necessarily because, when the guy in the building found out the dog was trying to help, he started crying. He is human. Annoyed, the man thought the dog was a random stray barking at a cat/dog/bird or something other than that. We know the man (and the dog catcher) both felt bad after they found out.

The fact that the man at the end realizes that the dog was trying to save the child is beautiful, He realized what the man who had killed her was wrong and sobbed at the pups death. Realize that this is happening in the real world, and if you see a dog bark at you and run, follow Them. Dogs are more human than humans. People consider things like this “inhuman” But it’s the humans doing this.The fact that this man, even if he is a animation, realized this, is heartbreaking. I was never one to cry, and I am still not. But this nearly opened up the floodgates. “Nothing, man or not, should be punished for doing a good deed, they should be rewarded with the happiness and the memories that they did a good deed. Not a slow death and no one to mourn.” -source unknown

@@pedroxd4076 yeah, but that’s different. Killing an animal for food is a part of nature, that’s why so many animals do it. By the same logic, I would argue that killing in self-defense is also acceptable. Some people might feel bad about it, but ultimately it’s not a monstrous act. Killing an animal for being noisy without investigating why, on the other hand, is just senseless bloodshed.

To all people who see this short film for the first time...and for those who decided to see it more than once- I want you all to know...there are things in life that make it feel like it's downright IMPOSSIBLE to move away from them. I know how this feels..."how can one move away when something so horrible and unjust has happened?". When I first saw this video...I'm not ashamed to admit that I was en emotional wreck by the end of it. I love dogs and cats, and to see a dog being treated so unjustly, especially when said dog was trying to do something so noble as to rescue a baby...there are no words to describe this crime against basic decency. Yes, I understand if some of the neighbors thought that it was a rabid, wild dog, but there are FAR better ways to handle such a situation without killing the poor animal. Also, it's been 3 years since this videos was first released, and for a long time, whenever it came back to my mind, I tried to repress it so, SO HARD, trying to think about literaly ANYTHING ELSE, rather than thinking about this horrible memory. Only in recent days though, as I started to develop my own mental mechanism for the purpose of helping me to deal with things that I encounter that I find disturbing or very emotionally heavy, I thought about this short again. Hesitantly, I rewatched the last part again, but for some reason, my mental technique didn't work. I began to panic and feel that emotional pain again, this time accompanied by the frustration of not being able to understand why isn't my method working. I've been thinking about it for a good while...and I think that I finally understood what I was doing wrong. You see, it's relatively EASY to punish the ones who mistreated the dog in your mind, but there is one thing that mentally punching your way through won't solve... The fact is, as hard and as impossible as it may sound, YOU NEED TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE PEACE WITH THE TRAGEDY OF THE DOG, AND MOVE ALONG. Now, by "making peace with", I don't mean APPROVE what happeend to the poor dog, because what happened was unacceptable and highly immoral. Rather, I mean that you need to understand that what happened, as horrible as it was...HAPPENED. In the end, the dog's injury and the bullet that killed her was not the end of her journey. Rather, it was her entering the final slumber of death, where she can feel no pain, or rather, her gaining her rightful place in heaven. once I realized that...I was able to slowly think again about the last portion of this noble dog's journey, and make peace with what happened, because by the end, not only has she now either safely sleeping forever without pain or suffering, or playing happily in heaven above, but as a bonus, the noble dog also managed to succeed in her benevolent mission, and save the human baby. I want to conclude this comment with the following message- Whether you are dealing with something disturbing, painful, or unjust that you saw either in real life, tv / movies or literature, or if you have gone through a trauma, please, remember this important lesson- One important step of healing from the pain is to make peace with what happened, as hard as it may sound, and move along. Don't be hasty with making peace with what bothers you. take your time, internalize, reflect, heal, and move along. remember, the world is full of beautiful and wonderous things, not just trauma and misery. I hope that I helped you with this message, and I wish you all happy and peaceful lives. :) Also, one final thing- I hope that in the continuity of this short, the angry neighbor gave the dog a proper burial, and decided to dedicate his life henceforth to helping animals in need everywhere, in order to honor the deeds of the noble dog. Plus, while I'm happy that the baby was saved, I hope that the guy who got him out of the sewer will come to understand what horrible thing he did, and that he will dedicate his life to helping animals in need as well.

When an animal is acting a certain way there is always a reason why. If you can be patient and find the reason, you can help them and/or yourself. No animal bites, or barks, or rears for no reason. They might have pain, they might have been abused or be afraid, or they might be trying to help. Or they might be in need of some training. Whatever the reason it can be handled well if we pay attention.

It's so sad that things like this happen because people don't understand what an animal is trying to say. Barking and jumping at you on the street is the only thing that dog can do to get you to listen. My friend’s dog, Einstein, did something similar. He had a secluded area for his bed, that he picked himself. One morning, he kept going outside, then coming in, going to his bed, then trotting back out. After the fifth time this happened, my friend went to check his bed… there were six dog-slobber soaked baby bunnies! And he was bringing in another! My friend guessed the mother rabbit had been hit by a car, or grabbed by a predator. And Einstein had decided to adopt these helpless little kittens (baby bunnies are called kittens). All but one survived.

This reminds me so much of a story in my third language (Swahili), I am not sure of which culture this story derived from, because the Swahili language is part of several cultures. Its title translates something along the line "Slowly slowly, don't judge a situation too fast" The story is about a dog and its owner, the owner trusts the dog, the dog trusts the owner. One day the owner has to take care of the baby of his daughter. Half-way through the day, he realises, he needs to get food for the baby, so he keeps the dog there and quickly goes to the store/market and comes back 5-10 minutes later. When he goes back, he sees his dog happily walking towards him, its mouth full of blood, the owner panics that the dog ate the baby. The owner gets his axe to unalive the dog. In the end the dog is no more. The owner goes to the bed, where the baby was and discovers its unharmed, there is no blood anywhere. The owner looks around and sees a dead snake underneath the bed, full of blood. The owner sobs for his mistake and cannot forgive himself for unaliving his best friend. I learned about this story when I was taught some Swahili from my mum and it's so sad... Just as this short film... :(

That's post-Soviet animation for you. It will make you think, it will make you cry, and in a strange way it will also make you hopeful. If you want sobering, grimdark but weirdly hopeful and uplifting animation, look at post-Soviet studios. They had the job of making the terrible life in the Soviet Union feel like it had a glimmer of hope to it. And they were very, very, very good at it. If you want to take a good look at how they did it, this video is a nice place to start. I mean look at this. It's horrible. The dog was slaughtered for no reason. It's an absolute injustice. But still, its sacrifice saved the child. It was mourned. Its life mattered. People saw the goodness in this dog -- too late, but they saw it. The dog died, but in death the dog WON. How cool is that? And that's the genius of post-Soviet narratives and why they still matter.

This adorable canine I've seen in this movie was a total lifesaver, a guardian angel, a father figure, and a total Good Samaritan. All this time, he was trying to tell the people that the poor little baby was stuck in the sewer, but no one even noticed! Some thought he wanted to play fetch. Some thought he wanted to chew on a bone, or maybe eat some meat or some kibble. Some thought he wanted to dig holes. But did the dog even want to do ordinary dog stuff? No! He wanted to do the right thing! But did _anyone_ in the short film notice? No! Everyone thought he was a menace to society! The chef, the couple, why, _EVERYONE_ thought he was a nuisance! But did the canine even react to their hurtful ways? No! Well... most of the time, but he still held his his head high! Like I said, this dog was an _actual_ Good Samaritan to the baby in the sewer and he tried to convince the people to help him! Unfortunately, that got him killed by Animal Control! You may think this ending to the film would be bad, but don't worry! The man watching the scene heard the infant's cries! And so did Animal Control! With no time to react, they saved the baby and took the child to get institutionalized. And as for the man? Well, he realized what the dog was doing this whole time! Now feeling regretful for putting the canine down like the middle classes, he kneels beside the dead dog and cries over the loss of it being killed! And the film immediately ends with him weeping! Now, despite the downer ending we've seen, I gotta say, this film, despite being dark and sad, has a deep meaning sewn into it, like stitches sewn into fabric! Notice how everyone goes about their daily lives _except_ for the dog. While most people don't even care about the baby in the sewer, the dog does, and he'll do anything to get the baby back into civilization! He does his best to tell the townsfolk by communicating with barks, but no one even cares! All they care about are themselves! But the dog doesn't care! Like I said, he still believes in himself, and he won't stop until the baby's out of the sewer! But in the end, Animal Control kills him, however they realize what he's been trying to do this whole time! Even the man watching this whole scene! In the end, Animal Control saves the baby, and the man laments over the dog being killed, abruptly ending the short. The way most people see this ending, they might think, "Too bad! This short will end on a cliffhanger!" But the way I see it, I think there's a "Ray of Hope" ending! Maybe someday, everyone will realize that the canine was trying to do good, and maybe someday, _everyone_ will realize that the baby was stuck in the well! Perhaps they'll also lament over the dog's dead body just like the man who witnessed the scene, and they'll all praise the dog for being a _true_ Good Samaritan! Like I said, the people, including the man, all spend their days normally. They have normal looks, normal appearance, normal attire, normal personas... but the dog isn't like that! He's different from the other people, but everyone thinks that he's trying to cause trouble! So, what do they do? They just shun him out and barely think about what he does! But does the dog even care? No! Inside his mind, he _knows_ that it's ok to be different! He doesn't let his struggle hate him! It makes him stronger! And despite being killed by Animal Control, he _still_ told them about the baby! Like I said, he didn't let the struggle hate him! It made him feel greater! Confused at what I'm saying? I'll give you a scenario on characters who have different personalities! Take Dr. Vindaloo, for instance! When I first laid eyes on him, I thought, "Ok! His skills take a turn for the worse, but he's still learning to be a proper doctor!" As I grew older, I changed the subject! You see, he may look like a normal doctor, but if you peel back is outside exterior, you'll find a mind of wonder, peace, love, joy, happiness, and a cloud of psychedelic smoke! On the outside, he’s just a normal doctor, but on the inside, he lets his freak flag fly! I finally realized the whole thing as I grew older! He was a hippie this whole time! You hear what I'm saying? He may be different from other people, but that doesn't make him a nuisance! His laid-back persona, his acid-filled adventures, his hallucinogenic journeys far away from the "modern society" (a satire on the mundane life), his flowerchild frenzies, his desires for all things freaky and groovy, those _all_ make him special! And do you wanna know why he never appeared again? In "Wrath of The Librarian", his "promise" to meet Muriel in Fairyland was nothing more than a "psychedelic getaway" so he could let his hallucinogenic journeys take him to places beyond the "modern society", especially into his days when he was an _actual_ hippie back at his favorite music festival Woodstock, a place where peace, love, and music mix together like Cajun Fox's Granny Stew! And yet, no one seems to notice! Not even Courage for that matter! But you know what? Sometimes I wonder... if Dr. Vindaloo ever comes back, he'll show his _true_ identity! A flowerchild! But not an ordinary flowerchild, but a peace-loving, music vibing, mud caking, drum circling, free loving flowerchild who goes on hallucinogenic journey far away from the "modern society"! (Oh yeah! What Dr. Vindaloo _actually_ looks like will blow your mind! While some people see him in his normal attire and his normal looks, in the 60s, he had long hair that went up to shoulder length (which went with a tye-dyed headband), round sunglasses (that he sometimes puts on when he sleeps), a short sleeve button down shirt colored green that went with an orange-colored leather fringed vest, and bellbottom jeans. Sometimes, his hippie self is seen in his hallucinations, and on most occasions, he's seen wearing his hippie clothes at home or in other places.) Anyway, enough of that! See what the scenario was trying to say? Both the dog and the doctor are different from other people! One is a Good Samaritan and the other is a hippie! But that doesn't make them awful! It makes them unique as they are! It's like I said before! Don't let the struggle make you hate! Just let it make you great! Don't stop working 'till you're free from the gates that restrict you! Still confused on what I said? Well, I heard that line from the "To a Black Boy" remix by Danger Mouse! It's a powerful song with a deep meaning about not letting the struggle make others hate! Don't know the lyrics? Here they are: Dear Marcus, I know it's been hard times Since they made you the victim of your so called crime Kinda snatched you out the game of life, in your prime They already took one, we won't let them take nine Since birth it seems the deck was stacked against you to fail With your father not there, mom's in and out of jail But you saw through it all and you chose to excel I can't see why they chose to lock you in a cell Well I'm prayin' that you're free by the time you get this Never known a convict with a 3.96 GPA, but in Rome, GA Black boys havin' sex with white girls, no way In any other state? It would have been okay For two high school teens to have sexual relations But at age 15, pffft, that's molestation In the great state of Georgia and I really feel for ya She was only three months away from being sixteen You a few months away from achievin' your dreams All American, played on the football team Accepted into Vanderbilt, a scholar in the making And the jury saw fit to acquit you of the raping After only fifteen minutes of deliberation What's the state of our nation when the laws ain't in check? Got you servin' ten years for consensual sex I'm perplexed and ashamed at the games that playin' Tryin' to keep a young man from his life and education Not to mention a family, you've been with since age ten Regardless of your race, they loved you and took you in So let your struggle make you great, don't let it make you hate Know we won't stop workin' till you free from them gates Much love and respect, hold your head God bless From the bottom of my heart, M-U-R-S _Now_ do you see what this is trying to say? Don't spend your life behind the gates that restrict you! Let the struggle make you stronger! Be confident! Work hard! And you'll be a _true_ Good Samaritan like the dog who knew about the baby in the sewer! (NOTE: If you like the scenario I did, give me a compliment on what I said about Dr. Vindaloo! If you think what I said is correct, share your opinions that relate to the scenario. If you think what I said is incorrect, correct me and share _your_ opinions that are the _opposite_ on what I said in the scenario.)

Thank you for this incredible work of art. It succeeded in making me cry, so it did a good job. This also helped me realise that stuff like this happens in real life and brought awareness to it.
