W124 - Fuel tank in place and rear lid seal installed

Just primed my W124 tank yesterday since we've freaky hot weather here in Ireland. In your boot the left (passenger side) well seems slightly rusty. I let mine stay slightly rusty thinking nothing of it. Then it became a hole. Wish I'd blasted it and primed/painted ages ago. Now I need a body shop.

Loving your progress man, I've been following your videos since I discovered your channel when I needed video help when I was trying to remove the sunroof in my w124. I found you can adjust the spring that pushes the bootlid open between two seated positions. One is more static, the other pulls the spring so the bootlid pops open quicker. On your other 124 maybe the spring is in the static position or the spring is overstretched from age/use. Hope it helps! And keep enjoying the parts going back in! 😍 can't wait to see the finished result!

Any advice on how to wash out a dirty tank?

there are fuel tank cleaner kits available from auto parts stores, if its rusted badly i would consider just finding a better one. You can also get them professionally cleaned, some radiator rebuilding places may still do it. This industry these days only survives working on huge trucks, cars switched to plastic tank radiators decades ago so they are few and far between. Also cars have plastic fuel tanks these days too.

You mentioned being able to manhandle the neck to be centered in the hole... can you tell me how? Mine is pretty off center and thus stretching the grommet out of place

with the carpeting removed the neck is accessible inside. You just have to bend it where you want it to go, i wouldnt go too far as if it cracks you will need to replace the tank. it is obviously already bent as it is now as its supposed to be in the centre.

@@reyngel It is solid metal tubing but its thin and can be bent as required, just gotta be careful and not over do it.

@@reyngel if it cracks it will need to goto a fuel tank repair place to be soldered, this is not something that can safely be done at home in my opinion

on my blueblack 300e-24 i was able to get around 10 litres per 100km, obviously its much worse if its driven hard
