This man WAS the face of wrestling (folkstyle and freestyle) when I was learning the sport in HS. I was fortunate to see him in action in a summer AAU tournament on Long Island I entered .. no one lasted through the first period with him. Its fantastic that he so articulate and enthusiastic about teaching wrestling. I'm now involved in BJJ and there is no doubt that my wrestling background is immense asset.

I was his 'half nelson' day dummie at Monomoy wrestling camp, summer of 1987. I am still sore hahahaha

If you're into your wrestling, it won't take long to come across Wade Schalles. The man's achievements are incredible and he's also a great teacher. So glad to see him in the UK sharing his knowledge with us and hopefully reigniting our love with the sport. Very interesting interview!

Well spoken man! You can hear the drive and determination in his voice, even in this relaxed conversation. Confident, but not cocky! Resilience is so key in life and sports!

Love that Wade is spreading the gospel of wrestling in the U.K. The UK has an excellent history in wrestling, but has fallen behind in the last few decades. There are a few individual studs but they absolutely aren’t on the same level in regards to international relevance in wrestling. They just aren’t on the same level as countries like the US, Russia, Iran. I hope wrestling continues to grow and we see more great wrestlers from the UK!

He is correct about wrestling being the original combat martial art. It's even mentioned in the bible when Jacob wrestled against God and was blessed afterwards being called Israel. It is also mentioned in Hosea.

Pretty cool story about how he got his judo black belt. Said from a guy who's primary grappling style is judo. But this guy Walles must have been some sort of grappling savant. I doubt anyone could repeat that today. That said, judokas always have a hard time against freestyle wrestlers. One explanation is that they're often so well trained and apply force more than balance. Another is that both sports have a pin rule.
@leavemealone20066 жыл бұрын
Watch some of Wade's wrestling footage. He is not your typical pressure wrestler. He uses balance almost like a Judoka.

@@leavemealone2006 I like giving kids a choice of uniform style, but don't understand why singlets are a problem for anyone except maybe an overweight kid. Do tight swimsuits keep kids from being on the swim team? Bike shorts keep kids from competitive cycling? Don't most sprinters in track now wear spandex? What's the difference?

Not sure if you are serious or not ... anyway "Valedictorian" - is a term mostly used in the USA. Its the student with the highest grades who then gives a speech at the graduation ceremony.

I believe you should get points for pinning. It shouldn’t end a match in Catch. H.S and College, yes. Not in Catch.
@justamurse56463 жыл бұрын
That makes no sense. If you’re pinned, neutralized and can’t go anywhere, you’ve lost. Game over man.
