5 years ago when I first got an EV it was quite exciting to see another EV. These days it's a rare day I don't see one in the first 100 yards as I drive from my house. Often I'll stop at the lights and the car in front and behind are EV's. But these days I'd lose count within the first couple of miles.

Hi Grouch, greetings from Oxford. I know where all the EVs no one can sell or even give away are being hidden, because I have found most of them. They are being hidden on the roads around Oxford, sometimes in front of me, sometimes to the side of me, sometimes behind me, but this is definitely where they are being hidden! 🤣🤣🤣

In Shenzhen there are driverless buses. My son used them last time he was there in summer, and he said they were very good and a smooth drive. The idea of driverless buses makes more sense than driverless cars, as it reduces the space taken up on the road; especially in cities.

I drive to Barnstaple from Chulmleigh once a week - a distance of 21 miles each way. I generally see between 6 and a dozen EVs that I recognise - even though I'm not looking out for them terribly hard. I'm sure I miss some because I don't recognise them as EVs, and probably miss some hybrids. Given that those that I see are going the other way than me, then it would be reasonable to assume that there are about twice as many on the road at the time (assuming there are similar numbers travelling in the same direction as I am). Definitely increased in numbers over the last 3 or 4 years.

Had a Kia E Niro 4+ for 3 years and now have a Tesla Model 3 RWD Highland. I must say that I do love the car and the supercharger network makes it so easy to charge when I am away from home. You are right to review the type of car you like as more and more options of great EV's are arriving. My Tesla suits me perfectly as I love technology and it has made life easier for me. There are also lots of ICE cars around as they were the only option viable for the past 100 years. EV's are relatively new and good ones with a 200 mile any weather range in the last 5 years. So yes there will be less EV's on the road, but as figures have shown each month more and more are arriving. ICE are also still being sold but their number sold will drop over the next year or two as EV's become the norm. 4 years ago I barely saw another EV, but now I am often following one passing them every few minutes going the other way. There are difinately more EV's on our roads, not less. Always love your ramblings, great video!

It is rather curious that one of the Not Geoff clan felt EV's were rotting away in dealerships. Presumably, the atmospheric conditions causing those EV's to rot away, would also have a similar effect on ICE cars in stock at the said dealerships? Unless of course ICE cars don't rot......although the Mini van I had back in the 70's certainly did.

A car with no steering wheel or accelerator and brake pedal is a harder sell than Musk thinks. It's one thing to choose to let your car take over and sit there keeping an eye on it, and quite another having no control over it whatsoever if something goes pear-shaped. Of course most of us don't seriously believe the thing will ever hit the road, and if it does we'll be seeing news stories about the accidents it causes. I watched video earlier from EV Spinner, driving their "FSD" Tesla, and they disliked FSD enough that they won't be renewing their monthly subscription. Misreading speed signs, unexplained stops, slows and goes, and when they set the cruise control it would inexplicably drop the speed a mph or two every few minutes. I enjoy the experience of driving a car, but not the noise and smell of an ICE car. I had a noisy car, it didn't go faster than my EV, it my annoyed everyone in the process. James May has a sensible take on EVs (unlike Clarkson who likes ICE cars so much he never bothered to actually learn how to fix an engine). May has a Tesla for daily driving, and various ICE cars when he wants nostalgia. He also recognizes the barriers for fuller adoption, and the need for a cheap people's EV.

The infotainment system on the ID 4 is really awful, but the ID Buzz is a lot better. Here in Northern Ireland (where the literal worst charging network is... by far) we live in an apartment block (so no home charger, and we rely on the public network entirely), and we are always seeing other Electric vehicles on the road. In the last 18 months it has gone from seeing one every half hour, to one every other minute at the start of the year, to once every 30 seconds now. They are far more prevalent than Diesels here now. Still getting a LOT of Hybrids unfortunately, but people are beginning to switch over.

@@rugbygirlsdadg It would have been interesting if The Grand Tour had done a special with an electric car where they had a charging van as part of the team. When they go on these long trips they have to take petrol with them, so it only seems fair to compare if you also take a mobile charging station. Their cars almost always break down due to mechanical issues from being shaken to pieces (or immersed in rivers), and a really tough test for an EV in comparison would be neat.
