Waggler Fishing Basics - Sinking Your Line

Sinking the main line is one of the most important things to do when Waggler Fishing. If you don't do this, you are unlikely to catch fish.
In this video, I show you two easy ways to sink the main line and I explain why you need to do it.

Great vid Den! My sinking aid to your methods is 25% dishwasher liquid (biodegradable, no coloring, no perfume) about 20% ethanol between 70 and 90% and the rest water (there are many recipes with different protportions and compounds). Thorowly shaken and misted on the spool from time to time. Works a treat, at least the same if not better than the Maver sinking line spray.

I have seen you use that method before Den,and it works a treat.I saw on a vid the other day that if you wet the line on the reel it helps with casting and helps keep the line from line curls.(they advise not to dip the reel in the water so it doesn't rust.) Great vids as usual

Running the line through a small sponge with washing up liquid on cures this problem also,this tip was given to me many years ago by a well known match angler (initials KA) who also showed me that using ABU reels you can trot through the bale arm which is not possible with many other makes of reels.

I always carry a tiny sponge soaked in fairy and water in an old film tub and while fishing you can tye wrap som sponge to your rod rest wet it that works when you retrieve line ,been doing that for fifty years

Aaaaahhh Matthew!!! You really have opened a can of worms with that question mate. 😊 There are so many different lines available nowadays. Some manufacturers have lines they say are specifically for Waggler fishing, but some anglers use lines which might have been designated as Feeder lines. It seems everybody has their own preference based upon the type of fishing they do. For example, a waggler line for heavy duty Carp fishing near snags would not be the best for smaller F1's or silver fish in open water. The best advice I can give you is to go into your local tackle shop and explain to them what type of water you want to fish, the size of fish you expect to catch, the distance out, the proximity of snags and so on. They will usually be able to provide you with a good product to suit your needs. I hope that helps mate.

hi Den, great video. What do you do with floating line?

Hi Shaun. I really only use floating line for river fishing when using a float which is attached at the top and bottom. For example a Stick Float or an Avon Float. Back when I lived in the UK, I also used a floating line for Pellet Waggler fishing. As I understand it floating lines are just a bit less dense than sinking lines, but I'm no expert on this.

One question do you keep the rod tip in the water all the time or little bit under. Im talking after sinking the line.

If you keep the rod tip under the water, that is the best way to reduce the surface drag.

Thanks for the reply! I also wanted to ask if that rod has a test (might also be called casting weight)? Something like 10-30 grams or 5-15 grams? I'm just wondering what sort of a test should I be looking at to cast 1g wagglers as it seems no rods that I can find online actually go that low according to the official specs.
