Wagner Flexio 590 Paint Sprayer demo, tips, review

Okay let me help everyone out: 1. When you get your gun, make sure that all of your pieces fit securely and if there is a packing(o-ring) required anywhere, make sue it is in and not pinched. 2. Make sure that you thin the paint that you are using in a separate container and make sure that it is mixed very well. 3. Before putting the THINNED paint into the sprayer, use a strainer to keep any clumps from getting into your feed line and clogging it or making the spray inconsistent. 4. Know your settings, adjust the flow/air power/pattern before you start spraying on target. 5. You are better off spraying 3-4 thin coats for a nice smooth finish rather than just swamping it on there. 6. Establish a nice smooth spray pattern that overlaps about 50% and don't stop while the trigger is pulled. 7. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN your gun when finished and wipe your nozzle every couple of minutes. Note: for thinning, use the appropriate thinner... if it is a water based paint, thin it with water. Hope this helps. I use to paint helicopters for a living and have dabbled with quite a few HVLP guns and even though this is nothing like it, the same concept applies.

How much do you thin the paint? It comes with a % stick that goes into the sprayer paint bottle. What % of thinning is best. Thanks.

hey thx for your reply I found that it leak buz the gasket isn't set right If you do that and tie up a bit more it will be ok I bought for 39,99pounds a black and decker paint gun I want to check if thats good for this job I read some reviews people didn't complaint about it we see it has 400W motor we will see Have a good day man

I watched both videos, thanks. Question, each video I see you spraying the wall and the ceiling at the same time. I usually do ceiling first then the walls. If I do the ceiling first then after it dries, use blue tape around the edge of the ceiling then use the Flexio 590 to spray the walls, how likely is overspray to hit the ceiling? Also, do you use the 590 sprayer on the ceilings? I saw your hat recommendation, learned that one after rolling a ceiling.

In this case, I painted the walls and ceilings the same color, for this I painted both at the same time together. If I was painting the ceiling a different color, I would do it first and then the walls; this is because the ceiling spray is more likely to hit the walls. You could spray the walls up to the top 12-18 inches and them may need to use a roller & brush.

I have the same sprayer. I'm using Benjamin Moore advantage satin latex paint thinned with floetrol. I'm painting cabinets that have a BM advantage primer on them. Why are there tiny bubbles coming out onto my cabinets as I spray?? It's a pain to sand them down in between coats.

When I use the gun, why does it spit blobs of paint out, it’s so annoying because the finish isn’t smooth so you have to go over it with a brush which just leaves marks on the wall

I had a Graco and now I'm try the flexio 590. I'm getting bumps when I spray and that was out of the gate with ever thing clean. I'm not sure what the issue is do yo have any insight?

Hi Mark. I tried using this last night to paint some new baseboard and trim I purchased. It left a bumpy look when I sprayed the baseboard. It was latex paint. The instructions said not to thin the paint. This was my first use so it couldn't be due to not cleaning the sprayer. Do you have any suggestions to give it a smoother finish?

I just bought this sprayer, and I'm using a waterborne alkyd to paint a cabinet. I practiced quite a bit to get the hang of it, but no matter what I did to adjust the settings, it would splatter quite a bit... what am I doing wrong?!

It works great for painting walls not so much for stain. I do still use it to save a bunch of time but you'll need to still use a rag and wipe off the excess from your wood.

There is a smaller/finer tip second unit that comes with the kit, did either of you try that for stain, or did you use the larger one shown in the video?

Mark Manville yes, I use the fine tip attachment for stain. I set the power on a lower setting as well for a finer spray

Mark Manville It works great for paint. I still prefer using a rag for stain. It does not produce a fine enough mist for a finish coat

my wagner worked great first couple times, then I have issues getting paint out of it. I to take the entire mechanism apart and clean it thoroughly...it just seems clogged in the tip of the gun. Any tips?

It almost seems like the paint is to thick to flow through...do you ever thin your latex paint?

I don't thin. It's a process to clean and can take a long time. If not fully cleaned and paint dries, it can affect the performance. I had it stop working once and found that a pin hole from the clean hose to the paint container was clogged; it was very hard to clean.

How long does it take to empty the paint container ?

That will depend on your paint and the power setting. I usually use latex paint and set it just above half power. I want to say that I run the gun for about 100 sqft, a 10x10 wall or roughly 10 minutes. It's been a while since I used it so my recollection may be a bit off but that's fairly close.

@OBServe Garage the water vapour and oil comes from the compressor this has a fan so no water or oil will come through the line!.....Of cause you could spray a car with it, it sprays paint, can paint anything with it!

you should think about purchasing a real airless when doing big areas such as walls, those guns are good for small items such as baseboard, doors and cabinets

Funny, I just did purchase a Graco x5 airless to paint an entire condo. Loved it for the walls but it was tough to get the trim done since it sends out so much paint even with a small tip. I used way more paint than I should. Good tip. Thanks!

Mark Jauregui weird I always spray the trim with the airless using half pressure and a 308 spray fine tip, try that next time and let me know how it works out for you

so the payoff is time and volume but you sacrifice detail with overspray. what if you dont want to hit the ceiling with the wall color?

Just like a roller, you paint the body of the wall and need to go back with a brush to city in the edges. If you cover with clean tape lines, the Sprayer can do the full job

angela sheppard less wasted paint. and you have to thin the paint out a bit so you get more per bucket.

I have used mine to paint a huge theater backdrop....black over a sky blue, and it used a fraction of the paint....less than one gallon. The extra bonus, because of less paint I had less added weight to the canvas which really comes into play when you have a 10+ yr old canvas being painted twice a year.

Wear a hat and glasses when spraying overhead . Also, dust the popcorn clean first.

Bungo Man yes it leaks. with a real pressure gauge or something, leak and overspray happened a lot when painting. I'm old school and would use a roller in a heartbeat. after the learning curve we decided to put on a thick coat and it does look good. we have a few spots with overspray we had to fix with roller/brush.

You didn't address how to solve any problems with using the device. My paint always spatters and leaves large droplets on the surface that I am painting. I'm using good paint, thinning as recommended and straining the paint prior to use. Still notgetting a smooth finish.

+Joe Burke I have experienced that issue. You need to clean every little part and make sure that the small tubes and little flaps with pin holes are fully clean.

Don't you find that painting the ceiling, then trim, then walls last is the better way to go? Now you have to mask the top of the walls then paint the ceilings. Backward in my book. One more step in the chain.

If you were repainting and had 3 paints then I'd agree. This small area has the same color on the ceilings and walls; also, there are no baseboards installed yet so we painted them before install and just touched up. No masking off at all.

ceiling first with brush and roller but surely if spraying it is easier to mask the walls than the ceiling. Gravity would make walls easier to mask than ceilings

+SPaoline4302 . Im still learning how to and how NOT to use mine. I've made a few mistakes like using the small attachment indoors which filled the air with paint dust. Knowing the paint thickness and which pressure and spray pattern to use can be a challenge but I'm starting to get it. One thing Ive learned for sure, spray painters are not just point and shoot. There is a learning curve. Sorry you had to take yours back.
