12:30 Pete, the best "cocked wah" example for me is hands-down Mick Ronson's work with David Bowie. The intro to Ziggy Stardust is just magic, and there's no other way to get *that* sound. I think he also used it for Rebel Rebel and a bunch of other Bowie tracks in the early 70s, just to push the mids of the guitar in the mix. It's a huge part of the sound of that era of Bowie.

1) Wah pedals do not sweep the Q. It sweeps the center frequency of the band-pass filter. 2) The sound has a resonant peak around the upper range of the cut-off frequency, which gives it the "notched" sound that you can't replicate with the tone knob. 3) The tone control on a guitar is also not a band-pass filter, but a low-pass filter.

As much as I hate to say, cause honestly I like the guy, but the Captain can be a bit of dick at times.

I agree that Lee cuts Pete off quite more often than the reverse, the wonderful danish gentleman may have a tendency to go off on a tangent sometimes and El Captain seems overly alert about it. Even if Pete has his moments of sprouting gibberish now and then (just like the rest of the bunch at Andertons) he often gets cut off even when explaining something relevant to the video. Like in the beginning of this video where he's interrupted talking about the history of the Cry Baby after Lee's finished mucking around with the pedal. It feels silly to overly analyze in this way since it's probably just a normal, regular conversation to them, but I've also noticed this many times before so I just felt like adding my 5 cents. Pete's input is often very interesting, it's ok to give him some more space and the audience is surely patient enough to let him find his way through the english language. As a swedish-speaking Finn, I find that danish is like trying to speak norwegian with a whole egg in your mouth. It's a terrible language ;)

I've had the standard Crybaby, the Crybaby 535, and now the 535Q. Interestingly, the 535 doesn't have a Q control but does have on/off lights for the wah and the boost. Nice work at the end there, Joss. It was a good contrast to the funk and blues that Pete and Lee had been playing.

I must say I do prefer the coloursound wah with the larger physical sweep. But George dennis wah pedals are also pretty good and amazing for clean wah tones. It's a shame Andersons don't stock some George dennis pedals.

Mick Ronson's work with Ziggy Era Bowie was all about the cocked wah.

Ronno did that 'cocked' wah setting decades before 'Money For Nothing' - check out 'Ziggy Stardust' or in fact any of the other tracks he recorded with Bowie. In fact I don't ever recall him using it in the traditional sense. And of course Zappa was a huge proponent of that technique.

Money for nothing is very easily recognized, but especially players with lots of gain may engage wah for solo in certain position, to get that cutting through mid and it makes a sweet singing voice to it too. The best led indicators were in Dimebag's Crybaby from Hell. It had two good leds at the back so they were well visible to your position when you're not on the wah or right next to it. On top of having a plethora of adjustments starting from q intensity and range, boost and the 6-way knob, but even the rocking pedal tightness screw to adjust the foot feel and input jacks on both sides for different cable setup. A true swiss army switchblade of wahs as it was marketed. If Joe Bonamassa doesn't have that golden wah, then something's wrong.

I've had the same 535Q since maybe 2003. I've used it heavily in metal bands. I've toured with it. Its been rained on. Its had drunk people stumble all over it. I've had to replace the switch a few times. I had to replace the gear and the arm that turns the potentiometer. I have replaced a wah potentiometer before but I can't remember if it was in my 535 or another one. Right now the pedal is super wore out and just flops back and forth. I've recently decided to shelf my beloved 535 and I've been shopping around listening to all the videos of all the different wah pedals. I think I'm just going to get another 535. I cannot find another wah that I like more. And there's been a few that I really wanted to like. Theres just nothing that hits in the same league. I'm more than happy with my cry baby even though its on its last leg. Its lived a rough life. My new one will definitely get much better treatment. It won't even have to live in a gig bag. I have a really nice board for it to live on. Can't wait to get the new one ordered!

Hey guys sold my wahs haven’t had one for a while, thinking about buying one again and can across your great video. Funny how you picked those 2 signature wahs because I’ve had both and here’s my issue. Jimi Hendrix Signature JH-1 wah Pros: absolute favorite wah I’ve owned Cons: not enough options/versatility Slash signature Pros: it’s Slash’s signature lol Cons: WAY too loud I want something that’s a little customizable but I love the simplicity of the JH1 I just wish it had an option to switch to a broader sweep range. Anyway I’ll finish the video now! Great work!

I've owned three different Cry Baby pedals and got rid of every one of them because the button was always SO incredibly difficult to turn on and off. I wound up going with the Bad Horsie 2 because of the optical "on/off". Sure, you can't leave it on at a setting you like (getting Dimebag sound is next to impossible because of that), but I don't do that so... I much prefer it.

I love the range, a bit darker than most, exactly what I wanted it to be. I bought 3 and gave one to my buddy who loves Alice In Chains. One lives on my home rig and one lives in it's box at the practice space (just in case lol)

Unrelated to this particular video but I have a request for a fun one.... would you be able to test the Miku with the Digitech Whammy? I would love to hear that voice going up and down an octave. Preferably with a nice delay to get that "Marooned" Gilmour style but with the Miku 'tone' or 'voice' or whatever one might call it. Thanks!

Off the top of my head, a couple more examples of the cocked wah sound would be Edwin Collins-Girl Like You, and Sound Garden-Rusty Cage.

I have a Dunlop BB535....it's before the Q version and was only made in the late 90's. THAT Wah sounds amazing compared to the stock 535Q. I prefer the BB535 easily. I also have a Jimi Hendrix Wah....the block logo one not the script newer one. Wah's are great pedals regardless.
