Waimea Canyon Hike to Waipo'o Falls via Black Pipe Trail

Aloha travelers! Today on Party of 5 Adventures we are sharing our hike in Waimea Canyon on the Black Pipe Trail headed to Waipo'o Falls. Waipo'o Falls is an 800 foot waterfall located on the west side of Kauai, near Waimea.
Our adventure begins at Halemanu Road at Kokee State Park. There is parking across the street on HWY 550, which is where we parked our Jeep. If you are brave, have 4 wheel drive, and the roads are dry, feel free to drive a half mile down the dirt road to the start of the trail at the intersection of Canyon Trail. The trail is a bit steep, pretty rocky and meanders through the lush Koa Forest dotted by native Hibiscus bushes. You’ll see a parking lot where it starts. Be advised that most rental car companies on the island forbid driving on dirt roads.
Keep in mind, you are hiking to the top of Waipo'o Falls and won't actually get to see the falls from the bottom. This hike gives you a spectacular view of the canyon. We even saw a few helicopters inside the canyon. The hike was 3.6 miles round trip from Hwy 550.
