Manga Fact: The Squad that blew up the Bridge and meet up with Mustang in Central is actually his old Squad from Ishval. Each State Alchemist was assigned a team to act as cover, protecting the more powerful Human Weapons while they did their thing. A lot of the State Alchemists didn't really care about their Squads though, so they were pretty disposable. Mustang on the other hand protected his Squad, so they were very loyal to him, loyal enough to join this rebellion.

GOT's reaction reminded of me of the fanbase when that chapter first dropped. We all thought, "Our Ed looks so much more mature!" but many of us failed to notice his new height until others pointed it out in forum. Cue the reverberating squeals of shock! It's fascinating how we see Ed's gotten taller in the same episode as Al loses consciousness again. Hmmmmm?

For reference a few months have passed between the last episode and this episode. You're not mistaking things when you notice Ed's gotten significantly taller and that's not just because of the passage of time. If you remember the theory that Ed had energy and nutrients being siphoned to Al, now the bond is starting to fade more and more Ed's growing rapidly and reaching the height he would've naturally by that point. He used to be shorter than Winry but now you see he's actually an inch or two taller than her now, it's the little details that you go back on and go "Oh that's cool didn't see that before". Also love the fact you really sunk your teeth into the philosophy the series does in regards to the meaning of Greed and how that also reflects in the nature of his character. Even though we get an amazing and fulfilling story it's only the surface and the thematic and philosophical discussions regarding human nature it presents the audience are the true meat and potatoes.

There’s also the fact that Ed and Al were apart during these couple of months. Ed was probably not giving his life force towards Al so Ed managed to catch up in some growth and the downside is the more frequent blackouts that Al complained in the episode.

There are tons of details like that that you can easily miss on the first watch, but pick up on later watchthroughs. Another example is when Pride is taking Al and he's losing control, Al's glove goes limp since he's not controlling it anymore. It's such a quick thing that shows such attention to detail.

There's definitely a growth in Ed over the course of most of the show, but specifically between Episode 45 and 46 there has been a timejump of a couple MONTHS where everyone has been preparing or just moving around the country in the background - hence the much more noticeable/drastic difference in almost what feels like overnight. And also why Ed and Co. are just suddenly at the Rockbell's I'm not sure they address the timejump itself in the show offhand

The way Greed explains how a person's avarice really speaks volumes on how his character works. In a way, greed is just the same as ambition or the feeling you get when you want to achieve a goal. At this point, Greed seems more of a anti-hero to me. Or at least more of in the centre of the grey area.

I'd say Greed falls firmly in the antihero line. His goals/motives are entirely self interested, but they mostly align with the heroes and rely on things going the way of the heroes so he sides with them and acts generally heroically.

I'm not sure about the official time line right now, there was a month or two time skip since the previous episode, and we're about a year after the beginning of the series. And Ed is definitely taller than Winry now, partially because Al's connection is getting weaker, so Ed isn't feeding an extra body as much, but mostly because Winry (and girls in general) reach their final height when they are around 15, while boys keep growing at the same pace until 17, and completely stop around 19. The funny thing about this is that this happens to literally everyone, but people only notice it if you put it on a chart. Otherwise they only see that in high school the boys suddenly get taller than the girls.

Also he has the northers automail which is significantly lighter and putting less strain on his body. Mr. Dominic was right when he said that Ed’s heavy automail might be the reason his growth is stunted. As soon as he changed to a lighter prosthetic he went through a significant growth spurt.

So I tend to leave comments here quite often in the aftermath of each viewing. It has never been my intent to belittle or come off as condescending, so I do hope that is not how they have been received. I try to address things that get asked as best I can... That said, some of us don't have the Box Set for FMAB, and a bunch of fan junk... we just have ears, and figure when there is an entire episode dedicated to getting the point across that when someone dies in the world of the series they stay dead forever, it might be something to pay attention to. Joking aside... how dare you call Alex a coward. It is true Olivier sees him that way, but it is I think pretty evident by now her mentality and that of the Northern Soldiers is very... different. Alex could not stand the genocide that took place in Ishval and was one of the few soldiers who stood up to say it was wrong, and for that, he was transferred and removed from the situation. Of course given the time, that was seen as him taking an easy out so he wouldn't have to fight but in truth he was one of the few who had enough backbone to stand up for what was right. If there is weakness to be found in what he did it would probably have to be more in that he didn't fight for his own conviction and let the military station him elsewhere without a fight. Showing empathy and kindness to others is never a weakness. It's like Major Miles said in regard to the Elric's taking the path to not kill anyone. He had to admit that it was certainly the more difficult path to follow.

You're right that Ed has grown - it's subtle for the first 45 episodes, which take place over roughly 6 months, but it's been happening all along. The first time we saw Winry working on his automail after the fight with Scar, way back in like episode 6 or so, Pinako (Granny) mentioned his automail needed adjusting for his height, showing that even though his growth was badly stunted by his caloric intake being diverted to sustain Alphonse, he was still growing a little bit. Now, of course, we've had a time skip. When they got to Briggs, it was autumn (they were dealing with the first bad snow storms of the year) but this episode here is set in the springtime lambing season (see: the sheep festival), so it's been another 6-ish months since we've seen everyone. Ed's growth spurt has no specific explanation in canon, but my personal interpretation is that the energy Ed's been diverting to Al has been tapering off. Al's body is trying to pull his soul back, as we've already seen, and it's not unreasonable to conclude that there might also be a breakdown of whatever mechanism was allowing Ed to sustain Al. Thus, Ed, now 16 years old (and side note: I think Winry is supposed to be 17 now, pretty sure she's a little bit older than the boys, but still young enough that I agree the bath scene last episode was Weird), is keeping more of his own energy now compared to what he had to work with between the ages of 11-15. Youth who have been undernourished often grow very fast once they're getting properly fed again, and that's basically what's happened to Ed here (purely in terms of caloric energy, of course, there's no indication that we was ever like, vitamin deficient or anything lol)

The seven deadly sins can all be traced back to simple human needs and wants. If nobody gets hurt, could a strong desire or emotion really be called sinful? I would argue, that excess is what turns them problematic.

12:37 that’s the thing about the seven deadly sins along with the seven heavenly virtues, at their base they’re neither good or bad but neutral and they only lean into being positive or negative in excess, too much of either is a bad thing Yup ed is growing, others explained why and keep in mind he’s like 14-15 when the series started so he does actually have a good amount of growing left in him

Remember how a few times in prior episodes, in multiple different episodes actually, since around the 15+ episode mark, you DID point out here and there, ''does he look older/different?'' be it for ed or winry. That's because FMAB is one of the rare shows that show young characters' physical growth over time, with subtle changes almost every episode as if they were growing everyday like real people. But, just like real people, we dont often notice those subtle growths because we see them everyday, until we look back at pictures or it suddenly hits us one day. In this show too, when it suddenly hits us once in a while, we then realise ''do they look different than 5 eps ago?? Ed seems older'' or ''winry looks more mature now''. As you've noticed at times throughout the show. I love that detail, both in the anime and in the manga. While it's much more subtle/gradual over the course of previous episodes, it's a lot more apparent in this ep, because of the time skip, outfit change, ed's height and longer hair etc; they specifically WANT us to notice the growth, if we hadnt already noticed before. Again, been loving your reactions. Im so hyped for the coming episodes!
@sifujacob1259

9:34 I think the point of those comments was that the show has driven it into the ground that bringing back the dead is impossible. You started to theorize about wether Ed and Al’s dad could use his stone to bring the mother back or switch places with her. You then acted like the show would tell us at some point. Again, the point was that the show had already told you, multiple times, but it seems you forgot. They weren’t meant to be insulting.

You are not mistaken on Eds height in this episode. He DEFINITALLY got taller and its because his automail that winry made him for the north is much more lighter for him which means it isnt going to strain his height growth anymore. Like it was mentioned in the earlier episodes when they went to Rush Valley and met Dominic who lives high in the mountains - he mentioned his automail is heavy and that could be why his growth is stunted due to the weight of it. Now that he has a upgraded automail arm and leg now hes able to grow taller like hes suppose to so he pretty much had a growth spurt in a way. It blew my mind when i saw this episode for the first time seeing hes now finally taller then winry.

A lot of time has passed and Ed is an adolescent in full growing spurt... but yeah, that is the scene they usually use to compare the growth of Ed. At the beginning he was smaller and shorter than Winry. Now, while both of them have grown, he is taller and more muscular. Isnt it funny how this anime shows that Greed is the sin that deals with humans the best/most? You only need to check human history

A lot of people consider the end of this episode one of the best endings to an episode ever, with the sudden assassination of Bradley and the music starting in when Grummond laughs. Hawkeye's talk at their gathering is amazing. This is also where the show jusy goes pedal to the metal for pretty much the rest of the show. An author once said that greed can be something positive and it is a natural instinct of human beings. If we extend this greed and consider everything in the world as our possession, then we feel the responsibility to protect and preserve people and nature as our possession. The anime/manga Dr. Stone also provides the argument that greed can be a positive thing. We strive to expand and develop our knowledge to achieve our goal. The resulting progress and knowledge benefits everyone and helps make a better life possible. In doing so, we rely on the support of others to achieve our goals. Therefore, it is in our own interest that these people are also helped.

Your eyes are not mistaken, Ed is taller than Winry for the first time in the series. The interesting thing about Greed and the other sins is that they aren't bad in moderation. They become sins when done to excess. For example, being lustful is beneficial to humans reproducing, but being so full of lust that you don't stop pursuing it is when it becomes a sin. Likewise, everyone should have some level of greed when they're pursuing goals. You have to want it to pursue it after all. But when you're willing to throw your morals away to get it, then it becomes the sin of greed. An example here would be Ed and Al: they want their bodies back, but they're not willing to use other people's souls (a philosopher's stone) to get it, so they don't have the sin of greed.

I've watched this series before but it's still exciting when cool things happen in the show. Bradley wouldn't be killed by the explosion but he was with some of his other allies who are human and so that explosions did probably kill some of the enemies at least. I think I understand what Greed was saying somewhat. Greed itself is just wanting to gain things but kind of more extreme, I think. Wanting things isn't always so bad cause it gives people something to strive for and not want to give up and let go off once they have it. Like, Ed was talking to Winry about the Promised Day and how he and Al could probably get their bodies back during it but at the same time, it could be doom for everyone else and then tells Winry to escape with her grandma and dog. Ed wanted all of those things: get their bodies back, save their loved ones, and save the country but thinks he can't get them all. Winry tells him to try and make all of it happen. People would say you can't get everything you want cause that'd be greedy but Ed wanting to get all of those (good) things isn't a bad thing.

Yaaaass!! Fullmetal day!! This episode is great. I laughed a lot with the scene of Ed and Winry... Ed's face when Winry starts changing clothes is so funny I had to do a screenshot to put it as a wallpaper. Iconic 🤣🤣🤣 We have a timeskip of months so makes sense they grown up a bit during that time I liked that Greed spech to Ed. I think he is right. Olivier and Mustang Hahaha.... He better don't joke with Olivier. Have a nice day and greetings.😊 Ps: I finally ended 86. what a beautiful anime. Loved it. Thank you, Luke for react to it. 😊🤗

About Greed, its good version is Ambition. Ambition is working hard for what you want, Greed is being willing to do something bad to someone to get what you want. As an example, an ambitious person will stay overtime to get a promotion while a greedy person will sabotage the other competitors for the promotion.

Speculation is fine and quite fun but after all the show has done to confirm resuscitation is impossible it's kinda baffling that he kept bringing up reviving people as an option. That's the only point in which I agree with the people correcting him in the comments of previous videos, still they could've been nicer about it.

@@laurainathunderstorm Given that the guy is reacting to other shows during the same period, I feel like he has some leniency to be forgeting a few things, regardless of how much of an impact they were supposed to have made. Honestly, I just like to see someone's reaction to the episodes I have loved since their release and through their fresh watch perhaps find more things to appreciate them for.

Yeah it isn't just Greed. Every single "Sin of Humanity" is perfectly natural and normal. -It's okay to be lustful with partners. -It's okay to have pride for your accomplishments. -It's okay to have lazy days. -It's okay to be angry sometimes. -It's okay to want things. -It's okay to be envious, it drives us to better ourselves. -It's okay to be gluttonous, you should always reward your hard work with a good meal. These are what make us human. Taking these away takes away our humanity. Makes sense why the Church pushed these as sins. They wanted to strip people of their humanity.

Dr Marcoh mentioned it during the episode 'during these last months'. It's been MONTHS since Fort Briggs. This series I always believe takes place between Ed being 15-17. So yes, Winry and Ed are almost adults, and yes Ed's gotten taller (some of that has to do with Al's loss of stable connection). Again, if you are able to stop yourself from binging the last 5/6 episodes, i salute you, cuz once Episode 50 hits, that's it, the end is happening and everything happens on the same day and it's awesome

I mean greed by itself is Bad (wanting more and more like a bottomless pit), that is why it's a sin BUT ambition is another deal, Greed from FMA is more like ambition than actual Greed, this is My one and only nitpick of FMA, sins aren't fully explored nor explained beyond what the characters need it for, though I guess maybe I got spoiled by Re:Zero in that department and it's use of the sins as well as their counterparts (virtues) though that said when it comes to Greed (the character) his ambition basically became Greed because SPOILER he tried to fill the void with the wrong things hence why it was never enough

💯 😂😂😂 that was a hilarious scene!!! 🤣🤣🤣 and yes!! Now they are grown teenagers, and more mature, Winry not as calm 😅 but more grown. Mustang is charming!!! 😁 and here is the continuation of the post credit scene. His conversations with Olivier are always in code! So fun to watch them, it’s kinda like a tango dance. 😅 Olivier is being held hostage herself, that’s why you get that feeling. She’s constantly reminded that she is expendable. 😐 And no, no, no, not a good anime, this anime is Brilliant!!! You’ll love it even more the second time around when you watch it in Japanese at your own pace.

I mean the 7 deadly sins aren’t inherently bad. It’s only when they’re in excess do they become evil. Everybody as all of them. They’re what makes people people.

I tend to view greed not as simply wanting things, but rather it's the opposite of charity. You can desire money, power, and all sorts of things, but if you're willing to share all of that with others, then I wouldn't label you as a greedy person.

Loved seeing this! And you noticed! They age in each "part" (it all takes place over about 3/4 years I think). Ed and Winry are about 18 Al would be 17 around this point. They literally grew up in front of us!

29:50 There's plans and then then there's plans. Even the best laid plans need to be flexible. So while Olivier is aware of the joint effort plans, she's also keeping an eye open for opportunities to turn the tide in their favor. Therefore, even if there was a plan already in place, if she could take over command while the generals are in disarray, it would be an excellent opportunity, one she'd be foolish to pass up. Of course, Father's appearance makes the point moot.

7 deadly sins are only a sin if you let it possess you. I mean have pride but don't let it control your life. It's fine if you want something but don't let it be unquenchable. It's fine if you love something sexually but don't let it be all you strife for.

Olivier take over the country? Nah, just wait until you see Al install himself as the new Furher at the end.The dust settles, and everyone agrees this kid who spent all that time as armor that they all know is most worthy to take over, and those who disagree face Al's alchemy, and Al is far better than Ed.

Yes greed can be good. All the deadly sins arent bad, its when you have them in excess then it becomes bad/unhealthy. Pride for ones nation along with envy/ jealousy for those around him, turned hitler into who he was. N thats all im saying with that reference cus i dont wanna start conflict in the comments lol. But yeah maybe in a different life, things would be different.
