Luckly in EU, You might find somethings in Your contract that might save You, ex. my old astra got struck on its drivers door. It's a cheap car and it was like 16 yo. Even tho the car was in perfect condition (rust free, any weird knock was heard and it was in mechanics garage to check what it was, after 18 years it was on a dyno and it lost whole 1hp over the time, no mayor problems with the engine since it was bought) yet the car was "totaled" according to the inusrence company. BUT, there was a little thingie in the contract, that if the car is repaired and You can lift the "totaled" title on it, insurence company HAS to give You back all the moneys You spent on it. So basicly, they wanted to screw us, we screwed with them. Whole structure of the car was fine, nothing bent, only doors, front fender and driver side mirror. That's why we ordered new parts from opel in germany (we live in poland, so those were like 4 times more expensive). Installed them in opel service center to boost up the price and lifted the title. Everything was done on OEM parts in opel service center so insurence company couldnt do anything about it but pay up, but the price was around 6 times bigger. The costs of this repair was actualy 2 times bigger than used astra at the time and yet, they couldnt do a damn thing about it.

I got hit from behind by an uninsured driver and I couldn't recover the audio system. The insurance company (Nation Wide) refused to pay for the audio system and only paid for the car. I had been with them for 16 years, never made a claim, and they raised my rate.

Anytime I rent a car I use my Chase Sapphire Reserve always declined the extra insurance. When you do these insurance phone calls to check you should record all phone calls there's an app you can download in the App Store that will automatically record calls of any number or select numbers or when you call certain numbers useful tool

New York is a one-party state and when phone calls start with the insurance company it already says it's recorded on the other person's end so both people actually know the phone call is being recorded

Insurance companies do not "hold claims against you" but they also manage risk and if you have claims in your history, especially large claims, you are a larger risk and therefore you will be charged a higher premium for a higher assumed risk. Like the previously commenter there could be surcharges and other things built in but I don't know about that for sure. I handle homeowner not auto.

@@Ericsson787 @Chimou every carrier is different, too. Some carriers have a 3 year lookback period and others have a 5 year lookback. Comprehensive claims with some carriers don't affect rate whereas with other carriers they do. Some carriers like Progressive will write you with 10 DUI's 10 accidents, and a suspended license for a huge price whereas others will turn you away completely and refuse to offer you a rate because they don't have the capacity, rate structure, or market to do it. One of the big misconceptions is the amount that is paid out on a claim the more your rate goes up. This isn't necessarily true. Once you hit a certain threshold in terms of payout, an accident is an accident. Companies care more about frequency and type of claim versus the payout. Big shock losses are unpredictable and hard to replicate, but if you are someone who commonly has claims, even if they are small statistically you have a higher chance of submitting a larger claim in the future. If you cause bodily injury in an accident that usually causes a surcharge in addition to the claim. If you are involved in a not at fault it typically still affects your rate unless your company successfully subrogates after the at fault party's carrier which at that point you cannot be held chargeable. That's why I always advise clients to go directly to the at fault party's insurance if in force to handle paying the damages so that claim doesn't appear on your CLUE report. Depending on what state you are in, many companies also put a huge emphasis on other rating factors such as your credit, homeownership, marital status, territory, the limits of liability you carry, length of time with previous carrier for retention, etc. All of these scale into your overall rate with a particular company and they all base rates on different sets of criteria from one company to the next. An accident with one carrier might kill you whereas another one will have a small impact. That's why I tell people to always work with an independent agent instead of calling 1-800 direct writers with inexperienced agents and you get a different person every time who knows nothing about you or your situation. I am an insurance agent that writes for about 20 different carriers, both regional and national. Also Rob actually said a lot of correct information in this video. The only thing I would say he started getting wrong was his beginning rant on groundwater damaging his inventory. Groundwater is considered flood and you need a separate flood policy to cover that type of loss (tidal surge, mudflow, groundwater, runoff, etc). Commercial businessowner policies and residential dwelling fire / HO3 / HO5 never cover these events and is probably why the claim got denied.

Liberty Mutual is one of my insurance companies and I have to they have been great over the years, they completely covered a $20,000 new roof job a few years ago, granted my buddy owned the roofing company but he talked to their claims guys and I got it all covered under wind damage. I had a couple other water intrusion claims over the years too and they covered them no problem. I have Progressive for my cars and they have been great too.

The U turne denied responsibility and because we has the same insurance company my claim was rejected because the insurance could not take themselves to court . I got £100 scrap value . Insurance for rentals and renter being responsible regardless of represe3ntation a.k.k why you SHOULD have coverage and options such as many ppl don't know there are entities that provide rental coverage for daily weekly or long term rentals that's typically much less than what the commercial company is offering. I'd like to know what ARE today's options when renting supers as well as daily beater rentals. Insurance world for cars and rentals is SO vast, but yeah. That $13 you save w/ hertz can end up being very costly so I cant imagine not being covered for something like say... a Sian FKP 37 (Would guess the $13 hertz coverage AINT gonna do it.. heh)

As someone who has worked for 2 large insurance companies, they always look for ways to pay claims, but the smaller companies can be a little shady. Also, 50k of coverage at the end of the video is in reference to liability coverage and has nothing to do with collision which is what this falls under and if the guy lied/defrauded the company, then your beff is with him, not the insurance company. Sounds like he had an active policy, lied to the insurance company. Not sure why the insurance company is getting a bad rap. I never worked for Liberty Mutual but hard to say they have done anything wrong when they were defrauded. Also, contrary to popular belief, not every call is recorded nor would that be the determining factor on paying a claim. Based on the information available at the time, there appeared to be coverage, and after an investigation, it was determined not to be. Rob, I'd be happy to discuss this further, I have paid tens of thousands of claims and have a ton of experience and I would be happy to provide my expertise
