KE2 has great training videos and plenty of reasearch on how to install and service there product. It’s up to us (technicians) to saturate ourselves in the technology to properly understand its full potential. I have now installed 20 or more evap efficiency controllers with huge success. The KE2 evap efficiency controller (using demand defrost and a RSV EEV and door switch) is a game changer.

I totally understand what you mean by tight spaces . I’m 136 lbs so I’m on the skinny side and I still have trouble getting access to the Evaps and side panels. especially when they only leave enough space for a stubby nut driver on the sides of the evaps on walk ins or they just have racks full to the ceilings lol . Great work on the videos BTW have learned a lot thanks to you !

I agree with tight spaces particularly behind the coil and back wall but you also have to have the patience and care with moving product out of the way to access equipment and protecting it from coil cleaner over spray. This is what I’m faced with as I go in on Sundays when the restaurants are closed to do cleanings and repairs. Also, be careful removing fan screen nuts with an impact as they can break easily due to the cold & corrosion leaving the motor mount loose til the mount is replaced (this I learned at the school of hard knocks). As always, another great video, Chris.

those type of controllers are pretty much a norm now elsewhere in the world. We use the televis system by elliwell as well as the danfoss system, pretty amazing technology, can pretty much sit at your office and put a unit on defrost other side of the country or adjust a set point. The hvac technician is really having to expand his expertise into fields he would have otherwise avoided a few years back.

@@HVACRVIDEOS I'd recommend not hooking things like this to a Network that has internet access, at least not on a permanent basis. The "Internet of Things" is not proving to be particularly secure, and the last thing you want is to have the customer hook up their Freezer control system to the internet, and have someone manage to hack their network and mess with the controller configuration causing loss of product.

How new was the system? Has it gone through a low ODT period since it's installation previously? Many installing techs forget to add the precharge to the receiver after doing a warm ODT startup. You may want to look up the condenser OEM IOM; Copeland has a charge adjustment procedure that eliminates the charge calculation from about 95% of low and mid temp, TXV and EXV driven refrigeration with condenser hold back head control and receivers which is easy to do and almost always as quick as the emergency charge adjustment uses in the field.

Also to correctly check refrigerant pressures on the walk in boxes with check valve installed, is it you backseat or frountseat just a crack to get readings? A lot of the medium and heavy walk/drive in systems we work on have some form of demand defrost these days, due to the energy savings, the reduced number of and length of defrosts and the more complete defrosts of the coils. As the cost of the controls have come down, they have migrated to smaller systems. They require a different understanding, testing procedures and customer education, but generally appear to be stable and reliable, IF THEY ARE INSTALLED AND SET UP CORRECTLY! Heaven forbid anyone should read the directions!😂

I believe that comp is flooding. The frost patern on the comp ? How was the superheat set, controlled?
@HVACRVIDEOS
@HVACRVIDEOS 5 жыл бұрын
I did not measure the compressor superheat but they run the coil at 6 degrees superheat so it would be totally acceptable to have frost on the body. The frost is just an indication that the suction line is below dew point and the outdoor air temps were very low
@randyhandle2012
@randyhandle2012 5 жыл бұрын
Try placing sensor perpendicular to coil with wiring pointed down if relocating still has issues and top tip on copper tubing. Might be terminating early from sensor close to electric heat source. Can run cat 5 cable to customers Lan(chefs computer) and will be able to access on there lan or offsite if they set up smart access. If they do that then can log in from phone, tablet or laptop on or off site.
@Jeepjones85
@Jeepjones85 5 жыл бұрын
randy handle Tralusen actually recommends to put the sensor in the middle of the top or as close to the top as possible, they want it as far away from the defrost heater as it can get, the sensor if mounted low like how it was in the video at first will come out of defrost faster than if the sensor is higher up the coil
@randyhandle2012
@randyhandle2012 5 жыл бұрын
@@Jeepjones85 that's why I said perpendicular instead of pushed inside fins. Every application with these are slightly different and more then one way to get the same job accomplished. Ke2 recommends as an alternative method for sensor installation with electric heaters since the heaters are mounted to coil. With a electric heater mounted to the bottom of coil like a traulsen you are referring to then yes you are correct, move up away from heaters. In his application the heater appeared to be mounted on opposite side of coil, therefore if you put sensor inside coil if it's only a few inches thick the sensor would be close to the heat strips. Was just offering suggestion if he wishes to try up to him. Hes a good mech so I'm sure he will figure it out.

If it's based on IP address all you need is a wireless router that can be powered you plug in the ethernet cable to that and hook up to that router with your laptop then punch in the IP address into the web browser and it should pop up. That's wifi, make sure it's got 2.4 gig and 5 g

Are those evaporator fan motors frequency driven? I can hear a bit of a whine that reminds me of a VFD?

You just knocked another one out of the park. I was just getting ready to ask you about the KE2 Therm controllers. Energy saving aspect is cool but all the data at your finger tips is tits. I can see the major advantage from a techs view. Also advantage to the restaurant with a log of box temp. Curious on how much work to install this controller on an existing system.

Looks like the electronic expansion valve would be the most difficult part to convert over. It would take the place of Txv and liquid line solenoid.
@HVACRVIDEOS

So to convert an existing system would involve some wiring , an electronic expansion valve, a pressure transducer, and some sensors. It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult

Yes they are , there is no software needed on your computer. You simply log in to the controller via an ethernet cable and an ip address

You wouldn't have to pull the charge in your situation to calculate the flooded charge. You would clear the sightglass at the current conditions and then calculate from there.
@HVACRVIDEOS
@HVACRVIDEOS 5 жыл бұрын
You are correct, and I should have clarified that. Still though in my situation late at night calculating the condenser tubings length and volume wasn't going to happen, this is a great argument for adding that calculation to the commissioning check list for new start ups.

What would be the causes of the ceiling of a walkin freezer covered in ice? Also do all refrigerators including the walkin cooler are with out defrost control and the evaporator fans never stop running? Then how does the refrgerators melt the ice from the evaporator if there nothing to tell it (like a sensor) to stop cooling? Is that control by the thermostat or something

Why don’t walk in coolers or any coolers for that matter have a defrost clock or heater? I only see them on freezers? How would a cooler defrost without the clock? And another thing can you please tell me the common reasons why the ceiling of a walk in freezer be iced up? Is it because the doors are open or is it because the heaters on the door doesn’t shut down? Thank in advance

What do you use to defrost or remove ice, like on that area with the electrical that you pointed out? I use a chemical sprayer with hot water in it. Also, what did you blank out at the top of the controller at around 5:15? Was it something like an IP address?

Ip address local to the controller is not a security risk, especially when it's physically air gapped from WAN and requires a local Host setup

Could one of the causes of the faulty sensors be because of how high the shelves are and how close they are to said unit? So it started having problems because of how much product was close to the unit, and then when they went in to manually defrost they ended up breaking the sensor?
