Join me as I walk up to the Kymin from Monmouth via the Wye, Redbrook and the Offa's Dyke. Along the way I talk about the tributary rivers the Monnow and Trothy and meet some cool people. It was a fine day capped off with some fine views of Monmouth and the surrounding countryside from off the Kymin.

This was a good test walk for my ankle and shin punctuated by some really wonderful meetings with people amid the rivers and valley. I found the walk up to the Kymin outback pleasant. The view of Monmouth is outstanding. I recommend it to anyone.

A lovely walk with a bit of something for everyone. Glad to hear the leg is doing okay and stood up to the rigours of your walk. I think it very poor if folks have unsubscribed because of your struggles after losing Paul. I know from Alison dying a couple of years ago. It is definitely a good time to be out and about with everything so green and fresh. So that's a canoe club at Monmouth now. It was a rowing club when I used it as a get out place when canoeing years ago. Keep 'em coming Mark! Best wishes Al

Glad you liked the walk Al. It was a tester and worked out. Yeah, loads have gone and never even subbed on account of where the channel went after Paul Al. It's been sad on many levels. Now, for give me is Alison family? I'm sorry if she is. I bet she liked the green and fresh. Oh, I meant to say Rowing club. Well, many thanks my friend. Take care. Mark

Mark, two years is alot of recuperation and patience to get that ankle and shin back to strength and hopefully meeting Jules was a good sign👍 Always cool to hear the conversations you have on the way and no surprise you had a conversation with Neill about loss and connection. Free water is a cool concept now that our water is in the hands of private companies meeting the needs of shareholders and not their customers👍 Dandelions and wild garlic are a good eat as well as the occasional daisy😊 Loved the art on the trees. Thirteen inns in one village sounds like it could easily be in Ireland😊 Lovely to be on this trip with you and on the wider and longer journey over the years👍

Hi gerry, thanks so very much. Yeah, patience bro - that'll be the key. I love to chat as you know - remote is good but society is to - there's still good all around Neil included. I'm sure you will gain many more subs as there are clearly so many other who enjoy following your stories. Always love the way you meet folk on your walks, Neil at Redbrook and the lady who lived at one of the old mill cottages. Fab views from the Kymin of course, great place to end your day Mark. Hiya Mark, you only have to read through the number of comments on this posting it will show that there are people who still follow your journey through grief and whatever life chucks at us. I would say my friend that interaction through said comments is worth a lot more than faceless subscribers who don't interact? You have always interacted through other peoples channels I know as see your comments on ones I follow & from a personal experience it is always good to see comments from yourself when I have posted a video. Good to see you out n about and hope that your are soon back to full fitness. Oh conicidental to meet Jules at the start of your walk - that indeed seems to reaffirm that maybe the healing has gone through its course. I am certainy old enough to recall the foundations /water sources that used to be dotted about places and what a great idea that would be - I think there are still towns and do this. Neil couldn't have come across a better source for the the Wye Valley and it's source - hope he finds your site and devours your old videos, he will find it both interesting and informative. Lovely to see some wild garlic on your journey Mark. Cracking walk Mark and great place to finish your walk - hope the injury was ok. kind regards Alan

Hi Alan, I agree there are still old friends about from years ago and I'm grateful and for the new. But the point I was making was different - I was saying how it impacted upon the channel and it certainly has. But yeah, I count my blessings. Regarding water it would be a different culture if we had fountains - that goes against the grain of what we have now but it would be good. As far as Neil is concerned you know he's going to love Pumlumon and that part of Wales. Yeah, always up for the garlic on the move. Well, thank you for a great comment Alan. I appreciate it. I left one on yours not so long back. Well, take care out there. Mark

Great walk Mark. Plenty of spots along there I have never walked ! You probably have spotted the roundhouse on the Kymin from the Skirrid ? It's a very white building on an easily identifiable hill and can just be picked out. The smoke and noise at Redbrook would have been repeated down the Wye at the Whitebrook and Angidy valleys, we often try to imagine what it would have been like back in 1600 with all that going on - SO different from today ! I think there was an active tinplate works (furnaces, rolling mills, and all that) at Redbrook up until the early 1960s ? Atb,, Dave

Excellent walk that Mark always great to see a place I know a little about (that fortified bridge though 👍🤠) I felt your leg would be ok from the beginning mark with that meeting (a good sign 🙏🏼) I’ve never been up to the navel Temple that I must do this year stunning view too (Nelson took a trip to see this and his plack in 1802) he had such a good time he returned to Monmouth on his way back to London. It’s crazy to think how beautiful green wooded valleys where once polluted centres of industrial endeavour (same as the dales of Yorkshire) But have a great week and thanks for sharing this 🤠👍 Very best regards Simon 👍🤠 4K inbound 👍💪

Loved the river footage and the bluebells and I agree there should be an water fountain in all towns :) It was good to see the historic places like the roundhouse and the naval temple, and the views of Monmouth and the Wye bridge from above looking down on that canoe club you camped at ! That was a great picture of your Dad mate, some smart looking Lads there, would that be around the 70s, just looking at the uniforms? It`s a shame that people have left because of the reasons you mentioned, some people find it very difficult to deal with that sort of stuff but it comes to us all at some point and then you just have to deal with it, nobody knows that more than me, believe me and I know that it`s the same for you mate. Hi Mark - what a great walk; some interesting facts along the way. That village with all those pubs can you imagine what a busy pace that must have been. I probably wouldn’t have found my way out again 😂. That was nice to hear how pleasant that valley is now as opposed to how it used to be back when the coppers works used to operate. Just a thought about growing your subscribers - I got talking to a fellow tuber in work and he advised me to push some of my footage through shorts - since doing it for 3 months my subs went up by 500. I appreciate it’s a different dynamic from long format videos; but you can remix from existing videos and I know you have a lot of really good material; that would bring people to your channel; Just a thought; good to see you out and about again and sharing your thoughts about the world around; always enjoy your videos. Hi there Miriam. The body was good the ankle/leg a bit sore. Bit otherwise promising. Yeah, I always enjoy the chats. Jules and Neil were cool guys. Who knows may bump into Jules again. That was was far out. As for the show I'm not sure about that. If the channel improves I'll be happy. Glad you liked the sights. All the best over there. Mark

Hi Mark, just watched this one again, we had a weekend in Monmouth, in our motorhome, on Monmouth caravan park, not far from the mono bridge, on the Rockfield Rd,. Noticed this time we could see the round house on the Kymin, from our window, I've not been up there for probably 50 years,I think we could see the caravan site on your footage from the Kymin.I do love Monmouth, I have a lot of memories from my childhood, fished along the river, and remember the old iron rail bridge. and I don't think it has changed much in that time.anyway look forward to your next one bro.

What a splendid bridge and imagine bumping into the chap who was there at he start of your shin issues.....a bit of full-circle 'closure' perhaps? I also concur re the fountains....we need them back. I noticed a lot of birdsong on the walk which is always a pleasing accompaniment and of course a bit of foraging adds a nice touch too. In fact I have been a fan of these foragers for a good few months now and they are based in Herefordshire. You might recognise some of their locations: www.youtube.com/@WildFoodUK1 You live in a very beautiful and interesting part of the world Mark. Best wishes, Chris
