I used to repeat this scene over and over again. That iconic beat..the clapping of the inmates..the raw epicness of it all. It's amazing how 3 musicians can create such a loud, booming beat

I saw this in the theatre with my wife when we were still dating. She had never really heard Johnny Cash before and didn't get why I was such a fan of his. But 2 years later when we got married, Johnny & June were a good chunk of the music at our reception.

0:32 I love how the bass breaks through more dominantly when Phoenix's name appears on the screen. Resembles Cash - dominant, powerful yet slightly subdued - a steady rhythm. Reese's name appears when the guitar becomes more prominent at 0:40 - slightly more upbeat, jolly-ish and lighter in tone. God this movie is amazing.

This is one of my favorite opening scenes, which is more awesome since “Walk the Line” is one of my favorite films! It’s also a scene I kind of examine in how the sound design works. I love how, with each cut, the music of “Cocaine Blues” gets louder and louder and more epic and classic. Impeccable filmmaking!

Liked it from the first time I heard it, when saw the subtitle that T Bone Burnett is responsible for music, I instantly thought (even though I didnt know the guy) that he is a true master at this.

@@QuEsT_X Well obviously Phoenix nailed the performance and singing. Off the charts. Witherspoon really help carry the film too and it was actually a good love story. So many elements will be needed for this movie to have the same effect Walk The Line had. And tackling Elvis is a bigger task than Johnny Cash. Fingers crossed for sure.

I remember it was a shock when it wasn't nominated for Best Picture! It was a good film and was a big hit at the box office. It would have been #1 for an entire month, but it had the misfortune of opening the same day as *Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,* so it had to settle for second place.
