Chatted with all of Sonic's friends you saved - To get this achievement you just beat both acts in an area to release Sonics friend. They will appear in front of the area you saved them in and you need to press up when triggered. The one that got me was tails. You need to talk to modern tails and classic tails. Press "Y" to switch Sonic's and the appropriate Tails will appear.
Also, you need only talk to them once. But talking to them more will reveal hints on where to find red star rings.
