A clip of my sister and I playing games at Power Play, then walking and clowning around in the mall. PLEASE forgive the camera shake, It was my first time using a full sized VHS Camcorder! Haha! The San Jacinto Mall was still awesome at this time! Good Times!

Ugh... you have to love an old mall... the tiles, the fountains, the plants, the weird decorations they hang from the ceilings... so dreamy 💕✨ we will never experience mall life the way we used to...

Don't forget the Pastal'd colored plant pots! :P Going to the mall in 1990 was the best! We didn't even realize that this was as good as it was going to get. Until the late 90's creeped up, and then the awful 2000's and on wards.

The san Jack mall is gone now, just a breaking apart parking lot around some oddly shaped grass field lots around a crumbling central ruin and 2 dying anchor stores. Your videos are the most content I've found anywhere capturing the interior of the mall at its height. The mall was my childhood and it's very sad to not only have lost that, but basically any substantial public area to go to and feel comfortable in.

Arcades, malls with way too many water features and plants...Exactly how I remember the mall in the 90's. I remember falling in a fountain at the mall once trying to steal coins from the bottom and not doing the science lesson in school yet that teaches you how water distorts light so the bottom seems closer than it is lol.

Huh 93? No way... The mall scene was prime throughout the 90s due to the rise in many things. Movies alone made the place seem full from 5-11 pm. Mid 80s-early 2000s were a prime time to buy electronical devices. The 90s were filled with useless crap to buy if you were living a middle class style. I'd say sometime in the early 2000s, the mall scene was on it's death bed. The magical was certainly not there but on the weekends, most malls were filled up imo still. It wasn't until post 2009 where it's basically just a empty building. It's not over yet tho lol.

Having lived in Houston for 6 months during 1973 made it my favorite city and home away from home. My family and I would visit two or three times a year and once San Jacinto Mall opened it was a much anticipated stop to and from Louisiana. I truly loved going there and it became my favorite mall. From the food court’s beautiful sails, large anchor stores and variety of others added to its life and beauty. I will always have fond memories of San Jacinto Mall and grateful for the joy it provided.

Thank you for giving me the back story about this mall. I do remember how I loved the food court area. It seemed to me that there were a lot of plants throughout the mall. For some reason I was thinking about Greenspoint Mall instead of San Jacinto when I left a previous comment to you and deleted it because I realized I was mixed up. My mom and I used to shop mostly at that one all the time. I went over to see it a couple of months ago and there was a security guard that I talked to inside who told me where the jungle gym I used to play on was. I just about cried because it is totally boarded up and only a few stores are left. There was a Scooby Doo Pizza across the street where we used to go and that shopping center is in a sad state, too. I guess I'm too sentimental. Everything changes but we still have the memories at those places. I don't know that I've ever been to Baybrook Mall. That's encouraging, though. Yes. I think Amazon has singlehandedly shut down a lot of brick and mortar stores although I love the convenience of it. The pandemic, too. Maybe sometime I'll go to Baybrook. I mostly shop at Deerbrook and occasionally at The Woodlands Mall which is very nice.

I recorded a video of myself walking around the mall with the little memories I had of it before they started to tear it down. I grew up in the NASA area most of my life, but over the past 7 years or so I visited this side of town and this mall often. Met a girl I dated from there, too. Funny enough, now I live right across from where the mall used to be, and is now going away, one little store at a time. Heck, this is where I saw Avengers: Endgame and I always had a blast at the theater arcade and the other arcade nearby. Once those started closing, I knew it wasn't going to be long before the rest of it was gone.

Visited the mall today just to check it out and it was my first time. Wish I went to this mall back in these days, god it was so nostalgic watching this. They only have the spot next to a Macy’s I think. It’s just the food court and a few little stores opened and everything else is barricaded and closed off. The arcade looked awesome here! It’s nothing like that now, it’s just a small little section like the size of a store. Well I beat time crises 2 today so that was cool but yeah I had to see what this mall looked like when it was the place to be and glad to find this gem. Good vibes and good job on this video, y’all look like y’all was having a lot of fun.

I was 10 years old at the time when this video was made & I remember my mom took me to that mall back in the day when it first opened to the public & although I was real little at the time but I remember it real well. It was the place back in the day. My mom use to take me there quite a bit back when I was a kid & had some great memories of that place. Today only Macy's & JCPenney are the stores left there, but the whole rest of the mall has been closed off since January 5, 2020. JCPenney there at the mall is about to close sometime soon because recently they had a yellow banner outside their store that said "Closing" on it. JCPenney filed for bankruptcy not long ago. After that JCPenney store goes, Macy's will be the only store left there.

Our mall arcade here use to be called the gold mine . It was fun and I got into this swat game you're a sniper in like hostage situations swear to God one day I was playing that game just enjoying myself. I decided to get 20 dollars worth of quarters on a Monday to head back there on Wednesday on the same week yall that game was on my mind for so long ,I got all those dam quarters and got to the mall entered it and ouch!! The Gold Mine arcade was gone 😢 just like that they closed it all up none of the arcades were there anymore ,I felt like an idiot with 20 dollars worth of quarters it was a big surprise to me . It's now a crappy cell phone store . I'm 45 yrs old and I still feel it to be honest cause now everything I remember is now gone from my young days and I mean everything even alot of people I've known, can't help but feel lonely now even though I have a big family , it's just you want one thing at least to stay the same but nothing does.

Have any news about what's next for the mall? I can't find anything on it. I know Macys closes next month and then it'll be completely empty.

I went to this mall every weekend with my mom and bro to play tekken and street fighter. Main entrance there was a Mexican restaurant to the right. Then pizza place to the right after and a Taco Bell to the left. Turn the corner to the right there was that really good Chinese place but it was really korean now that I’m older. End of the food court was power play and to the right of that there was a CFA. I never ate there unusually. I barely remember that merry go round in the arcade though.

I do remember a kiosk with computers with games for you to try! It was awesome, but at that time, the prices were out of my reach! I remember it being just outside Power Play near the mall info kiosk.

The mall today is being demolished, Power Play shut down for good a few months back. I was able to get treasured Mall signage for my game room. Check my channel for videos of my game room and museum! a little bit of me died when the bulldozers arrived, but I saved what I could!

yo adults : ) i'm 18 and young today and i'm curious to know; were the 70s, 80s and 90s really a greater time? particularly for teenagers and young people? cause I hear and feel like today's a shitty time with the internet and social media and all that compared to before. what do you think?
@Yesterdays92
@Yesterdays92 4 жыл бұрын
Well, as in everything...that is subject to opinions! Here's Mine: I was a kid in the '70s & '80s and young at heart thereafter! I really feel bad for today's kids. You can't do anything, Parents think you'll be shot dead or kidnapped every time you go outside. They don't play on their own and are constantly hovered over, even to older ages! Our parents, especially during the summer would tell us to go outside and play and lock the door after we left! We just had to be back home for dinner or when the street lights came on! Spent all day at the pool, riding bikes as far as we could, and found so much to do without money....because we never had any! The mall and the arcade were very special places because they were NEW! The mall was a fantastic, futuristic wonder world because there was nothing like it before! The same with the arcade! It was incredible! Cable TV, The VCR, Atari, Awesome Music/Bands/ Music Videos, and Video Rentals all started around this time too! It's kind of like what was portrayed in Ready Player One, most of the very iconic things came out in our childhoods. I could go on and on! The '90s to me were an awesome continuation of these things as well! Sega, Super Nintendo, N64 and all their Iconic games. Nickelodeon was in their golden years, and SNICK was awesome! The Internet at this time felt like an exclusive club when you were on America Online! After the 2010's began, so many things took their toll, Online shopping, Streaming, Online games. Malls are dropping like flies, only the ones in affluent areas survive. You have go to special conventions to play actual arcade games now. (places like Dave and Busters are not the same) My real advice, Do what you enjoy! Whatever it is! Don't let "friends" or peer pressure stop you from enjoying things today! I may feel things were better back then, but there are awesome things today too! You can get into retro games, Go to video game conventions and do other things as well! (if you like this kind of thing) Don't be a robot and fall in line like everyone else! Do what you like and enjoy it! I do dwell in the past a LOT, but I also try to enjoy everything today! Have a great day!
