Wow I knew there must be a reason God created kale. I'm going to show this to Hungry. Nice to see a video from you!

I was probably 65 years old before I even heard of kale. This is first decent use I've seen of it.

Hi Terry, So nice to see you again! I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist! Lol That was really fascinating watching those tiny seeds turn into those tall walking sticks! I’m looking forward to your next video to see what you are going to do with them. Will you be working in your garden this year? Thinking of you and hope you’re doing well. I think I’m going to share your video with some of my friends so they can see how you do this. It’s really quite fascinating! So until next time… Dolores 🥰

👨🦯 I suppose the long stems could be trained so as to grow with a bit of a hook on the end? Or maybe curved with hot steam like they do for bending cane and bamboo? But your video shows that the root stub becomes the handle of the straight sort of walking stick. That's fair enough, too. 👨🦯 Hmm. I just found this walking stick emoji! lol ;D

What about making a walking stick from an okra stalk? Some okra varieties get pretty tall.

Awesome video! I have a question maybe you can help me with….one of my husband’s great uncles had told us about people making walking sticks out of a certain species of okra using the stalk. Would you happen to know which one it is? Thanks for your time!

How tough is the stem? Is it like softwood? Or like bamboo? Hard to believe it's related to cabbages.

Where do we find the seeds for this variety of kale?
@deborahlong9900 Жыл бұрын
In what zones can these be grown to become large enough to make a walking stick? How long does it take to grow one large enough for a walking stick? Thank you.

Hi Deborah. The walking stick kale are considered perennial versions of the cabbage family and are said to be winter hardy from US zones 6 -1. They will not winter over here in zone 5A but are very cold hardy above freezing temps. At least in my experience. You will need 6 to 8 months to get a tall plant. In order for me to have any success I start my seeds indoors in February. They are easy to start and you just have to keep them growing. I move them outside into the garden once the chance of hard frost is gone. I hope you're able to give them a try. The walking sticks are fun to make. Thanks for watching!
