I did the Chinese Wall Loop out of Benchmark solo in July 2020. No-one was around. It was a life changing trip. Had a grizzly encounter and all. Can't wait to get back in 2025. Thank you for putting this kind of epic journey together. I hope you spent as much time looking at the scenery through your God given camera as you did through the digital one.

Carl, PLEASE tell us about your GRIZZLEY encounter, I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to hear it!! I LOVE GRIZZLIES ❤️ 😍 💖, THANK YOU!
@Doctocracy5 ай бұрын
@@didibolter9362 When I did my trip, I hiked counter-clockwise going North to Gates Park. My first day out of Benchmark I did 15 miles. I was walking the trail just prior to the Bear Creek crossing when I noticed a few freshly overturned logs. I knew bears would do this in search of insects so my guard was elevated. Soon thereafter I caught movement to my left. It was a grizzly cub darting away from me at a 45˚ angle. My gaze was then drawn a little further to my left, behind the cub. It was momma grizzly. She stood up on her back legs to get a look at me, dropped down and took off in the same direction as her cub. They were less than 50 yards from me so obviously had momma wanted, she could have closed that distance in seconds. I had bear spray and my handgun at the ready.

NW wanderer...appreciate your videos. Watched many to scout my options for my first trip this summer to the Washington Cascades. Ended up in Glacier Peak Wilderness (Napeequa Valley and high pass area). I live in New Hmpshire and can only get out west once a year - we've got fun stuff here in NE but nothing quite as grand. Great to see Joey, would love to someday meet you on the trail...

THANK YOU!! My whole life(well, most of it, lmao), I’ve wondered what the views would be up there. Not disappointed one bit, and was actually blown away more than I thought I’d be. Fought fires(including the Canyon Creek fire in ‘88) in the area, never made it to the wall.

Bob Marshall himself traversed this area exactly 100 years ago this summer. I held his red leather journal of the trip about 20 years ago at the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley. Iris still there.

We also attempted this trip in 2022, but in early June, and the water of the Sun River at Indian Point was too high for a safe crossing. It is tricky timing, too early and the streams are impassable, too late, and no drinking water in the high country. Thanks for sharing!
