Wigan to Lancaster. A view from a train driving cab

A Cab view along the WCML from Wigan to Lancaster. The weather was indiffierent. Stopped and cautioned at Oubeck and was told to pass the Signal at Danger.

Wonderful; I was born in a house next to the line from Castle Station down to Geen Ayre in Lancaster in 1943! So many memories; How many miles of green fencing, so many trees obstructing those old views I remember. Also Bay Horse Station, line to Glasson Dock and Morecambe Promenade via Scale Hall. Finally would have liked a shot of the loco. GREAT!

Brilliant video! This class 47 is moving at a fair speed north of Preston. For those 'Railcam' subscribers, You can clearly see the Leyland double cam on the right @ 11:06 in this video. Farington and Preston cams are not visible (at least I can't see them) but they are both to the right hand side of the track @ 13:58 and 23:03 respectively.

My dad was a driver and my grandad on intercity and virgin trains, also drove steam which looks very hard work still don’t know how the drivers manage to see them signals

21:00 The church is St Walburge's RC, Preston. The spire has a height of 309 feet and is possibly the tallest non-cathedral spire in the country. Its architect was Joseph Hansom (1803-82), the inventor of the Hansom Cab.

So glad to see this arrive. Wigan/Preston isn't covered often. This is the first one in which I've been able to clearly identify the underbridge via which the northbound Whelley Loop dived under to rejoin the WCML. (@3.33). Blink and you'll miss it. Many thanks.

It departed at Bamfurlong where the goods lines dive under left to right but these days only to access Springs Depot (and a bit later the Wallgate line).

Passing a signal at danger used to mean 15mph over facing points ahead of failed signal,but maybe this has changed?
