Also I noticed a few items you wanted to salvage got missed like the lights and vanity. Smart move would be to get a barcode scanning system and software. When you do the walkaround print out barcodes and stick them to the pieces you want to keep. Take photos at the same time. Have the guys scan the barcodes as the items get loaded on the van and set the software to check the items off on an app on the site leads phone or tablet so you can be sure everything that is meant to be salvaged gets salvaged. Will cost probably up to $1000 to set up initially BUT you will recoup that by not having as much stuff get missed or broken. The stuff lost on this job the vanity and lights would have paid for the system or near as. Every job thereafter it would just be profit.

Glad to see someone else repurposing the stuff that's good quality and costs a fortune today, was doing kitchen and bathroom tear outs in the Palos Verde,R.P.V.& P.V.E. area and surrounding areas and seen where even shipping crates used to make cabinets and those old tubs an 18 lb. sledge between four of barely chipped the porcelain and took it out in one piece and it's cast date was from early '58 and forgot the weight, this is my second show of yours and may have earned a new subscriber, gotta watch one more.

I was last in FMB in Feb of 23. I’m so glad to see how much you’re salvaging. My mom’s house on the Estero estuary (shadow wood preserve) and the stuff that gets thrown away is criminal - even just for the inevitable remodel. She had just finished remodeling (of course) before the storm and bought all new furniture. I drove down from Wisconsin in August to get beautiful furniture she didn’t want - thank god I saved it. The amount of waste that’s generated by all of these temporary older residents is astounding - without a hurricane. It seriously makes me happy how you’re explaining about why certain things are unsalvageable.

Great job! It was fascinating to watch the process. There were some beautiful materials in that house. It is sad for me to see anything demolished but your attention to recycling and reselling is admirable. I am sure that it pleased the Sample family to see the respect that you gave their old home. Thank you.

I tore houses down by hand years ago and everything was sold to be reused to build new homes . We picked the old homes that were built with real 2 x4's and other size wood . Quite a few were built with square nails . Solid doors and really cool hardware , awesome bathrooms and kitchens . Really solid windows that worked great with weights and ropes that were great sellers that people reused . We always either sold material on site that people picked up each day or what didn't sell that day we would haul home . If we didn't haul the stuff home it wouldn't be there the next morning . We hauled very little stuff home as people would be lined up wanting to buy and would be a lot of help in the tear down process . Actual stuff hauled to a dump site was very little and our dump site was fill in on a mans property that he needed filled in and we didn't have to pay to dump .

This is the way it should be done! There was so much reusable material and things like doors and windows in this house. But instead of properly removing them and sending them on to someone else who could use them they just destroyed them and ended their effective life span. So fucking wasteful, all in the name of MAX PROFITS BRO.

I am retired and after moving many times in the military and in civilian life, I found that 'Tape' is your friend. Tape all knobs on appliances either individually or across the face of all of them. I have over the years remodeled and or refurbished 7 houses. It for sure is labor intensive if you are trying to salvage things. Take your painters tape and tag everything you want to salvage and write location on large notepad. When all blue tags are gone you know you didn't miss anything. Have a safety meeting and a walk through with your crew before starting demo/removal of items so everyone knows what is being repurposed and you will also reduce chances of someone getting hurt. Not related to your video but I always take a marker and number the drawers in dressers or anything else that has drawers that will have to come out and go back in and you cannot just tape them shut. I have a nine drawer dresser so it is labeled 1L, 1M, 1R Etc. I was stationed in Key west in early 70's and do miss my boat and all the boating, diving, fishing; was in one hurricane. Now live in Pacific Northwest USA where I was born and raised.

One thing I noticed is that, during the walk-through prior to demo, the owner went through every room with his crew leader, giving instructions of what to keep and what to lose. The crew leader didn't write anything down! Later on, it turned out that, sure enough, valuable stuff got destroyed by mistake. Buy that man a clipboard!

Yes I hear you in his defense, we use this type work "as fill in work", so they might end up being several crews out there before we get to the tear down....so they get as much done as they can before end of day and they are are a new job the next day.....I guess it really falls back on me.

Just an FYI for the future. Those architectural windows are worth more money reselling than they are for scrapping the aluminum. Didn’t pay attention if they were insulated glass or not but if they were, you should be able to find a date stamped in the band in between the glass panes. You could have gotten a lot more money reselling them than the ten bucks you got for each window by scrapping the aluminum.

Sometimes there's very little dust being generated and we just don't do it. But sometimes there's a lot of dust being generated and we we knocked that down most of the time, the dust is on the ground within seconds anyway, but if it's blown around and at other people's houses and stuff, they get upset about that.

Does all the woody construction debris go straight into the ground at the land fill or is it processed and ground up to separate the material into reusable materials to be resold for new purposes? I think $22 million is way too much for a tear down on the water, even in Naples. But obviously someone didn't care about deflating their piggy bank(s)! I think a lot of the tropical plants and trees could have been of value but understand time versus money. Amazing method of demolition here. Sad but the view and water remains for the next mansion standing. I'm sure it's got to be bigger and better than any others on the street, that seems to be the trend for the wealthy.

The guy or crew responsible for possibly knocking off the wall oven knob & not making sure to check the house & inventory the items removed to be resold later, I “DON’T” believe the fact that that happened was something that should ever happen. But there’s at least 1 way to keep this from happening. Anything that has knobs, levers, any easily removable hardware, anything that’s too easy to remove &/or lose/ break/ damage, etc., that should all be removed so those items don’t get “LOST” & put those items in a ZIP-LOCK BAG & put the bag inside of the appliance, cabinet, etc. or if the easily lost or broken items need to be specially packed then so be it. At least those items will be retained for the next buyer/user without the need for a search for replacements. Something else to keep in mind is all items that are removed as “COMPLETE” are sort of in a category of their own. If the item is COMPLETE & interested buyers can see that, I believe that’s a selling point. Buy it & not have to do the legwork to find broken, damaged or missing parts. Maybe there could or should be a bonus to the crew &/or crew head for all items brought back(of the items that would have knobs or whatever-nothing missing)to the resale shop as COMPLETE. Maybe it might seem like a waste of time. Just a thought!!
