There is a resounding 'thank you we needed this' in the comments. Let me join that bandwagon. Also, I thought it was interesting to find that the first few chords you gave examples of, with having intervals in the 'correct' places for 'pleasant sounds' I was thinking "ooo yeah, that other one didn't sound great to me". BUT- when it came to that Cm9 with the semitone interval in the bottom I actually really like that. I wonder if it has to do with some of the music I grew up on in my preteens/teens. Perhaps the use of the semitone for dissonance in post-hardcore groups like Dance Gavin Dance made me really enjoy that voicing. A testament to the subjectivity and a reminder that these can be guidelines that are okay to be toyed with. This is in the top 5 most valuable theory/practice videos I have seen. Definitely something I have been looking for, for years.
