Hi guys, i really like the sliding bed idea and how it saves you space in the van. I just wondered how the aluminium supports are held down.
@OurVanPlan Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I use angle brackets to fix them to the wood that they sit on if that makes sense? So the brackets slot into the aluminium and then turn 90 degrees so you can then screw them into the wood. It’s one of the many fittings you can get for the aluminium.
@Gzuleczka2 ай бұрын
Hey 👋 what is the height of the bed? What is the minimum of height to make this extension? Thanks !
@hollybrighamАй бұрын
Great video, was the 5-6 degree cut on the uprights necessary to get a straight (upright) wall? Looking to do mine soon and want to avoid the top of the cutout sticking out further than the bottom.
@OurVanPlanАй бұрын
Yeah because the van wall curves in only slightly and we wanted level top/bottom of the cutouts and then the sides flat to the rest of the ply. Bit of a pain but worth doing.
@vanlifeingloria75185 ай бұрын
Hi, love your van, we are just doing cut outs for bed and foot of our bed, does your double mattress ALL fit inside the width of the recess or is there an overlap at the edges? Looks like we’ll either have to squash it in a little or trim corners of the memory foam mattress. Thanks in advance 😊
@OurVanPlan5 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yeah we had to trim the corners of the mattress (then we invested in a custom sized beds one so it was done properly!) from memory it’s about 8cm cut out on each side
@wjess35697 ай бұрын
What size mattresses did you get for this build... I like the idea of the side to side (E/W) if I can get away with it. I have a 144 Sprinter.. so, room is premium.
@OurVanPlan7 ай бұрын
Ah the Sprinters are a lot narrower than the Ducato so might not be so easy. But we’ve basically got a full size double length and widthways with some cut outs on the corners to fit in the alcoves.

Hello, how does the insulation work during the winter? Any updates? Good job on the van!
@OurVanPlan Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yeah it definitely makes a difference although you do need a heat source in the van. You can then easily keep the van at a pleasant temperature even if it’s down to zero outside.
@merlinowen2702 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly impressed with the vinyl 👌 Now that you've been sleeping in it have you noticed the lack of insulation - head and toe?
@OurVanPlan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. We’ve only been to warm places so can’t definitely say. I think it’ll be ok though, particularly as we’re putting curtains in to keep some of the cold out from the cab/rear doors.
@goonk32052 жыл бұрын
@@OurVanPlan I think Merlin means it differently, and I wonder about that too. Because the cutouts have less (thinner) insulation, I expect that the difference in thickness will be felt in cold conditions, for example, cold feet. Apologies in case I am difficult to understand, my native language is Dutch.
@MrMeltedwellies2 жыл бұрын
Hi Guys did you remove the metal support bracket in the middle if so is it just glued found the same problem just not quite long enough thanks Mark
@OurVanPlan2 жыл бұрын
Yeah we decided to remove it in the end. It was fairly straight forward. Glued with a couple of metal tabs to cut. We just used a drill for this to drill through the metal tab/join in a few places to weaken it so it snapped off.
@volvot5boy5 ай бұрын
Hi me again 🤣. I’m 6ft so I’m wondering is it’s necessary to have the recess for the bed? Or can you get away with not doing it? Thanks.
@OurVanPlan5 ай бұрын
Yeah I’m the same and I’m glad for it. If I want to properly stretch out then it’s needed otherwise you’d always be laying with legs bent. If that’s not a problem arguably you could leave them but tbh I’d have regretted not having them.

@OurVanPlan2 жыл бұрын
The van is an H2L2 so 5.4m long outside. Most people have the L3 which is 6m and have a shower/toilet. We don’t have the space for that so are having shower facility at the back doors and toilet concealed in the seat.

loving the videos and attention to detail. I'm at a similar place in my build. Interested to know how you have found that rear panel since moving the support structures. Does it seem boomier in any way or has the wooden frame and insulation dampened it do you think?
@OurVanPlan2 жыл бұрын
We haven’t really noticed any difference. With the wood and insulation packed in behind, you wouldn’t know they had been removed. Also because we’re an L2 the entire panel is smaller and only has a single support rather than the two on the L3.
