I think Chastain's saving grace was having the safer barrier. At the very least, that would cushion the impacts a tiny bit, and the inner metal wall would be a smoother surface to ride against than this one, being a cracked old concrete wall

I knew a guy in highschool that built his first vehicle out of what I believe was 3 different trucks. It was a long frame with a single cab short bed thrown on top that was seperated in the middle because the bed wasn't long enough to go all the way so there was just this gap in-between the bed and the cab about 2-3 feet wide 😂. This was years ago but he showed up at school with it one day and told me "it's legal as soon as I wire in some brake lights and turn signals" which he was actively wiring after already showing up to school in the morning. One day, his brakes failed because I'm sure those were junkyard parts too. So he smashed it into this SUV but the owner forgave him. That truck looked straight out of Jeepers creepers bro it was THAT kind of truck. Demonic possession type truck. Nearly killed a couple people and i witnessed one of them because it was the time his brakes failed and he hit the suv. There was a guy standing in-between that ran out from in-between at the last second. Really demonic possessed jeepers creepers truck. It was so cool It was like an old Ford pickup with the front split windows. Or a Chevy, I can't remember. It was a mixture of brands. It was repainted a million times so it looked like it crawled out of a pit from hell no joke. Like it's skin was boiled 😂 Jeepers creepers mobile straight up. He measured the fuel level with a stick you stuck into the tank with markings on it of "about" where empty, half and full tank were. It was a MACHINE. There was no bed in the bed. It was horrifically unreliable as you can tell by the brake failure

This needs to be a multi part series. I want to see you mount an entire suspension on the side of the car so you absorb all the bumps. Also, use bigger diameter rubber tires, that way you don't get them caught in those giant crators in the wall.

I have this idea were they can weld some forks like the ones on bikes with triangular shapes to reinforce the thing, and get the smallest and thinnest wheels available and put them with a dually setup, and somehow hack some truck shocks into the forks. We might be into a new racing style if this catches on! Imagine a race were everyone can wallride at any given time 🥴👌

Small lawn tractor tires would probably hold up. Pneumatic tires would make a huge difference absorbing the shock of the cracks, doesn't matter that they bounce a bit since you don't need to maintain traction. You could also just put a big sheet of uhmw on some simple leaf springs and it would hold up for a few laps and slide pretty good. It would wear a lot of paint off the wall tho.

If you ever want to test this again, i think using rubber wheels will help a lot cause they can absorb the impact better than solid metal wheels. Also already being against the wall before the turn starts basically elimates the intial impact.

Speaking from a engineering background, I feel as if you would’ve had more success with pneumatic wheels more like the kind found on trailers or tractors coupled with a X braces or triangles braces frame between them as press molded steel is better with impacts than cast and the pneumatic tire with less pressure in them would absorb the impact far better. The frame would also have the benefit of helping ensure they didn’t move.

And Ross was going a whole lot faster, and under racing conditions. So he had very little time to consider any of this stuff. Not to mention, but approaching the wall at such high speed essentially would look like "Hey we're about to just crash into this wall" to your brain - so it would take amazing courage to overcome. I haven't even mentioned the risk that he was taking with it not working and the car being a write off for no gain. Race car drivers always amaze me with their ability to fully commit to winning a race and making split second decisions. They take risks like we do in video games, but often have raw talent and skill to back it up.

I'd use short truck springs to cushion the castors and make up for the bumps and inconsistencies in the wall. And castors obviously need steel parts. And up the castors to 8. 4 pairs, with each pair having one located higher up on the side and 1 lower.

I got a suggestion. Instead of small caster wheels you guys could try welding a slide cage together, pretty much like skis for the side of the car, skiing over the bumps in the wall, as well as less friction due to a smaller contact area to the wall than the car door and side panels. It sure as hell would also make a lot of cool looking sparkles if you pick the right steel
