It is superb the way they make you go from disliking the actions Walt does (especially Jane’s death), however most of us continue to have a sense of care for Walt in some way, but it is being destroyed in Season 3 progressively. What's brilliant to me about this scene is that Walt wins either way. If Jesse would have pulled the trigger, Walt would have died, Brock would have recovered, and Jesse would have spent the rest of his life haunted that he killed "an innocent man". Walt would have been remembered as an innocent victim to both Jesse and his family. For Jesse, he would constantly remember Walt as someone who died because of his "stupidity". For his family, Walt would have died an innocent victim of the crossfire between the cartel hunt and Hank, killed by Jesse Pinkman in revenge for what Hank did to him (if they ever found out it was Jesse). So, yeah, Walt wins either way. I honestly kind of think Walt was hoping Jesse would pull the trigger.

I love how everyone has agreed that the loose end of Walt's lie was that he admitted his story about Gus' plan was brilliant- how Walt's ego would never let him admit someone was smarter than him.

Apparently Bryan Cranston didnt know Walt had poisoned Brock when he acted this scene so he was playing it with sincerity. Makes the manipulation even more effective.

the funny thing is that Walt's lying/acting is normally terrible, but here it could not be more convincing. He brought his A game cause he knew it was do or die, but half assed it with Skylar. ig that meant he didn't really respect her.

i disagree. I think there’s subtle tells walt gives when he’s lying, and they’re shown here. for example, when he says “he has.. he has been ten steps ahead of me at every turn.” it’s a little hesitation and verbal misplay that he does often when lying to skylar.

I still can’t help but wonder if part of Walter’s reasoning for poisoning Brock was more about punishing/manipulating Jesse rather than saving his family. Walt knew that while Jesse turned him away, Jesse is vouching to keep Walt alive. All Walt had to do was call Jesse, and tell him that Gus threatened his whole family, including his wife and children. When Saul brought up Gus’s threat to Jesse, Jesse immediately took it seriously and most likely would’ve reached out to Walter if he didn’t poison Brock. I genuinely think Walt did what he did because he wanted to ensure Jesse would be loyal to him, and ONLY to him.

He did that to manipulate Jesse and he manipulated Jesse to save his family from Gustavo. I don't think he's sadistic enough to poison a child just to punish someone else.
