I've just got an RM8 and I'm stunned at the accuracy. The Lothar Walther barrel seems to be very happy with any pellet I use in it. I've chronographed it and the regulator is amazing, it's the same velocity every time, hardly any variation. Great rifle. I'm in love with it! 😂

Hi Chris, I hope you're keeping well. I think you are a great, honest reviewer of air rifles. You call a spade, a spade, and say it how it is,which is great. My polite opinion is this. I have a soft spot for an Air Arms S200. My late, much loved father owned one. Dad loved his S200. Dad never had a great deal, bringing up his family, though rightly so, his S200 was his pride and joy. The Walther RM8 is much newer and more chance of having a safety catch than an older rifle. The Walther won't rattle as it's brand new. If the S200 was overhauled, maybe that wouldn't rattle either. I humbly think both air rifles are fine kit both with the potential to be great. Thankyou.

Chris, I have the RM8 and love the accuracy and quietness, however I dont think this has been a fair comparison as the same pellet has been used for both guns. My AAs410 is most accurate with AA fields, whereas my RM8 loves JSB Hades. I'd suggest finding which pellet suits the AA S200 and redo the test

Martin, thank you for your suggestions. First of all, does your RM8 have a moderator? I think it's very loud indeed! I will absolutely take your suggestion about the pellets on board. However keeping the pellet the same is part of keeping the variables the same...my comments about the overall fit and feel of the gun still hold true. @@southwestshooters it can’t be a fair test when quite literally every gun likes different pellets, it really should of been shot (the S200) with its preferred pellets. You could get 2 Identical guns to test and one could literally hate the pellet that works best with the other. In the same breath you could try using the RM8 with the s200’s preferred pellet just to show the difference

Sure I get where your coming from but for a real test on comparison as far as grouping goes you need to use the best performing pellet per barrel. This wasn’t an ammo test it was a rifle test all air guns are pellet fussy. Only trying to help with your content here, if you want the tests to be fair and viewed as such.....

chris my s200 is pellet on pellet brill air arms quality but it is new of 2022, i cant understand why your shots were wide, the first shot on second try was a bull, id try a different pellet mine are 8.44 grain diablo?

the problem with the rm8 is the mags have a soft alloy star wheel that sometimes doesnt engage with the guns rotator lever giving blank shots, On mine i've painted alternate coloured dots on the mag edge so i can visually confirm its rotated and loaded a pellet into the barrel.

I too am a recent RM8 Owner (UC in .177), sadly I am only managing 60-70 "full power" shots from a full 232 bar fill via 7 litre cylinder. Pressure gauge indicates 100 bar after 8 mags. I haven't chronographed it yet (don't own one), but it's accuracy and power are amazing. I've taken many nuisance rabbits from my permission out to 45 meters. Its power does make me wonder if this rifle is a bit beyond sub 12 fpe power.

That S200 is a poorly gun it needs a new bolt probe seal and the barrel cleaning and re crowning and if it is regged it wants a service or upgrade to a Robert Lane regulator.The split between the group indicates a barrel probe issue.Also I'd try JSB Hades pellets .I'd clean the RM8 barrel too and change pellets. The S200 is a far better made gun the Walther is a nice gun but they do suffer from internal corrosion and seal issues.Moderators would be a good purchase too they sound like rimmies.My S200 is customised and is totally different from the standard gun and does 80 shots in .22 off a 190 bar charge and drops to 90/100 bar when I re fill.Some good points and it's your review so well done .You also need a better shooting platform you have side to side to movement which moves groups left and right.Both guns should virtually one hole at 35 yards so try some different ammo.Good luck stay safe.

I’m sorry I’m biased on this walther RM8 wins … however I do own air arms and they are very very good guns but none of them would stand up to the beating my my RM8 gets it’s solid .. it’s heavy out around the fields but you get used to it a little bit of sweat never hurt no one .. the Rm8 is highly under rated and deserves more good press than it gets … good review Mate enjoyed it 👍🏻

I own both of these both in .22 and all I can say is my s200 smokes my walther both use jsb rs 13.43g trust me its the pellets that make a difference at 35 yards

The most accurate pellet I've found for the rm8 is the jsb exact 10.34g. Pellet on pellet at 30 yards.

Oh yes I'm geting that rm8 for shure. But hopefully the air cylinder last for 80shots minimum. The version that is available in my country is the 30jules one.

At that range that 200 should be putting pellet on pellet, think there's definitely something not right with your test 200. Add a moderator and a tin of J.S.B heavies, also a barrel clean, lead it in then do the same test. I like the rm8 but as this is not your gun we don't know what it was fed. With a bit of tuning I'm sure the 200 could easily match the rm8.

Your other vid, the same s200 with its fault's compared with a top price gun costing over 4 times as much, had much the same grouping. For the money the faulty 200 is a budget gun par excellence in my book ( imagine what a clean well looked after s200 could do ) wish I lived in your world where I had £2000 to spend on a gun. I had my RM8 for a couple of years now, it is the first gun I +really+ trust - I can literally "feel it in my gut" when I line up a shot. When I am zeroing, I take out my other guns, squeeze off a couple, make my adjustments, rinse & repeat until I am happy. With the RM8 I take it it out of it's slip, put four pellets through the same hole and put it back in it's slip. It is paired with a cheapie Hawke Vantage scope and it is an awesome combination. I regularly take ferals out at 40m and I have repeated magpie kills at 63m. One problem - it has spoilt all my other guns, the RM8 has become my sole go-to. I am seriously thinking about selling all the others. Occasionally, I get the urge buy another gun... but what is it going to do that "The Priest" doesn't? The only way up from here, for me, is to go FAC and get something truly mental.

Dear Captainboing, thank you for taking the time to comment. I agree with you, to an extent. This gun isn't actually mine, it's Ians and I don't use it all the time. But I agree it's an awesome gun. I do prefer my daystate guns, but to be honest this is a feel thing. It's very hard to fault the RM8. I would honestly suggest checking out the daystate guns if you have access to them.... But then again, they might not offer anything that you currently don't have! Regardless, you clearly have a gun you like, which is awesome. Just out of interest, what other guns are you comparing it with?

@@southwestshooters I have to stay at the budget end of things purely down to finances. I have 5 in all: - Walther Rotex RM8 .177 - my daily driver. very accurate, totally trusted. Loves JSB Exact 453 and Hades. When vermin clearing, I get a kill per pellet, just about. - Gamo Phox .22 - nice gun, feels quite raw but great ratter. Tends to lose zero between sessions even with Bisley mounts (!) which is probably down to the scope. Really likes H&N Baracuda Hunter Extremes - The obligatory CPoS Break-barrel .22 which has had some work done so it can actually produce a grouping - OK for close in but hard work over 20m. OK for barn-storming ferals coz that is only ever at roof height. - Beretta CX4 semi (Umarex) .177 - great fun for competition plinking with mates but only 8ft/lb and not much cop over 25m. - BSA R10 .177 - I don't rate it... BSA seem to be hyped a lot more than they deserve, to me anyway.

So, admittedly I'm a daystate fan, but you will notice that in some of my other videos I compare "affordable" guns to these ones....its about the groups that you get. Nothing more. I seriously would not bother looking to get anything else for the time being if your RM8 does the job. It doesn't make any sense! However, new guns are fun, have you used a hw100? These are fantastic guns..... But I do know what you mean, sometimes you want something new and different.

I have seen other videos where the AA S200 does the same as the RM8 and better through the same hole a 50 yards, a matter of pellet choice in the end plus rifling twist and barrel length.

I would agree with Chris, the S200 in my arsenal of rifles is the most accurate, and believe it or not I have some very expensive ones... That little S200 with the right pellet is a deadly sniper. Especially when one puts a regulator, a tuned moderator, trigger work, Altaros sells upgrades for the S200. I've owned four of them and am seriously blown out by the hunting and pesting I was able to do! Even in the deserts of California where the jackrabbits are enormous, The S200's in 1.77 caliber did exceptionally well!!! Even at long distances of 93 yards, the 14.30 fpe S200's did great! Light to carry around and super duper accurate. Now if it doesn't feel well when you shouldered it, that is totally understandable. But oddly enough I have my friends whom are way bigger than me and they love the darn thing!! And swore that they would buy one!

I would have put a wider range of pellets through for a fairer comparison- the barrels on the S200 are often adapted to use on other HFT and FT guns, they are that good. The mags on the S200 are not very good and an after thought adaptation, work better as a single shot. There is no safety on the 200 as it is a 10 metre target rifles that’s been adapted, safety catches are not allowed on 10m Olympic target rifles and pistols. The RM8 is also very heavy and a pain to lug about on a permission after quarry!

Hi there, three pellets tend to work very well. JSB Exact 8.44 grain, Air Arms Field 8.44 grain and Webley Accupell 7.9 grain all print between 5/8" and 3/8" in my S200 at 40yds. As a sidenote, I am also liking your Walther, I also have an LGU springer which is very good so I do know that the Walther barrels are excellent. I have no doubts about the RM8's accuracy, it seems to like those pellets in your vid. Cheers Steve

I have an older rm8, wouldn't stock, with soft black coating. Same magazines, and thankfully not an automatic safety, which I loathe, but a resettable manual safety. It has a cheap non branded moderator, from local gun shop. Its very accurate. As accurate as any other gun I've shot, some more than twice the price. The only issue I've had over the years is the seals on the regulator needed replacing. I have air arms too, but their tx200 springer, which is also very accurate, and alot of fun to shoot.

i have the s200 mk1 and 2 in .177 and .22 also the rm8 in .177. the s200 stocks are simply too short for me where as the rm8 just falls into place. Another 3 iinches and a drop butt piece would make the s200 a lot better gun in my opinion.

Nice review, confirms what I knew about the RM8 , that's why I bought my UC last year. I have just bought a tin of Exact .177 pellets in 4.53 size as I understand that improves the accuracy.

From my limited knowledge, a fairer comparison would be 5 different types/brands of pellet over 3 different ranges. We all know brand X shoots better from gun A but not gun B, and brand Y shoots better from gun B but not gun A.

I guess there always will be variables that are simply too complex to negate. I could put the same scope on each gun, but that would require tuning each gun to its scope and I am not sure if that it a worthwhile idea. They are, after all, quality scopes on both guns. I guess it simply comes down to me as a shooter? I am more than happy to admit the results may have been different if the Professor was in this video....but there will be more to come. Bert. You'd perhaps best consider my use of the word as a subjective personal evaluation of my liking of the RM8 over that of the S200. But as you asked.... The RM8 is clearly more accurate from this test. You get way more shots per fill and I like the feel of the gun. Therefore, it is better.

It's no use comparing 2 different guns using the same pellets as they may suit one gun better than the other. May I suggest you do a pellet test first and compare the two using their favoured pellets. My s200 is pellet on pellet at 35 yards using QYS pellets and 5p groups with AA Diabolo Field. You should not be happy with those groups with either gun. They are both capable of much better. Also the reason for the low shot count is due to the small cylinder not the regulator. Sorry to be picky but I've been shooting for 52 years and owned many guns some budget and some in the thousands and I've found that the weakest part of most guns is the shooter themselves. With any gun you have to find the right pellet, lead the barrel in with that pellet, get to know that gun and it's sweet spot and finally practice, practice, practice. Then you can give a fair review of that gun.

Well dr elphick, Good review....I’ve always put bisley magnums through that rifle,but I also no you can shoot....I actually feel there’s a regulator problem there,for shots to jump up then down is in that area.unfortunately it has a lane regulator which I personally think are naff,but I’ve grouped as you no within 10mm at 60 meters with that rifle...I think we put it back to stock with a single shot tray and get you to review it again??? Your shooting is far better than that,yet so is the guns .but great review again👍👍👍

The mk 9 lancet reg from Rob Lane is one of the best regulators for a S200. Speaking from hands on experience and missing wallet contents (don't ask learning is never cheap) I should know.I purchased and got rid of altaros internal reg and a huma just didn't suit the gun but where not faulty.My custom S200 is my keeper gun iv done, Rob Lane Reg Rowan bolt handle Rowan Trigger blade Rowan barrel/cylinder band swap from plastic Rat Works barrel work re crown,threaded to 1/2"unf and clean. 10 shot mag conversion plus 2 custom mags,bolt re work ie polish and counter sink detent ball location and align mag housing. Front quick fill and pressure guage fitted. QD swivels and leather sling. Hawke SF scope in high reach forward mounts as barrel mount removed.Mine loves JSB Hades in .22

Both guns under more or less same condition, but shooting from such a wobbly table not good. My old S 200 can group less than 1/2" at 20 metres when bench mounted.

Sorry but Chris is talking rubbish. I own both these guns and apart from the RM8 developing a leak after 18 months both guns are very good and more accurate than he shows them to be (I have tried the same pellets and got similar results) I find Air Arms Diabolo Field 177 4.52 are the best for both guns. Trying to give a comparison is like saying which is better TEA or COFFE. My AA200 is set up for target work at 10.2 ft lbs. The RM8 is set at 11.8 ft lbs (as bought 2 year ago) both give 3/4 inch groups at 30 yards but it would depend on who was using the gun as to which one would be better.

I have owned the s400. I believe the rm8 is a better option.... But I haven't had access to both at the same time.

I'v got both, and no diferance in acuracy what so ever! Sumthing wrong with that 200! Just air arms is so much easyer for hunting sub 12ftlb anyway. Alot lighter, and better handling.

Thank you for your input Steve. I disagree with you on the better handling aspects on the s200 - but this is simply a personal opinion. I also think that this is why I wasn't as accurate with it either, it doesn't fit my frame well enough for me to be comfortable....But thanks for your comment, it is very interesting to get the thoughts of other people.

@@southwestshooters the airarms 510 lighthunter is better than them both. That is a lovely rifle! And lazer acurate.. i am picking the rm8 compact up next month. So i will see for my self wich is the better compact hunting gun.

Just got an RM8 and the safety is really getting on my tits already. Why is it necessary to have an auto safety on a sub 12ft/lb air rifle. I have 2 fullbore and one rimfire rifle and none of them have an auto safety.

How many more time are you going to compare the S200 with other guns just for the purpose of proving it "inferior". I would suggest that you are not a good enough shooter for the S200 !

I have had a rm8 , istill have a s200, both in .177 , the s200 runs rings around the rm8 , you obviously where not useing the right pellet for the s200, at that distance my s200 can put pellet on pellet, and for God's sake get a stable shooting platform not a wobbly old table , then your reports might be a little more credible,

I agree. I have taken off the multishot kit and the single shot tray has been installed - I will see if this affects anything. I will also experiment with more pellets. Thank you for your comment!
