Dusk one evening on board ship, crossing the Indian Ocean under the luminous sky. Suddenly the sound of a Chopin waltz came bursting out from the main lounge. I had tried to play it for months without success. That's why I gave up the piano. There wasn't a breath of wind and the music pervaded the whole ship. I stood up as if to go and throw myself into the sea. Then I did weep because I had thought of my Chinese lover, and I was suddenly not sure that I hadn't been in love with him after all, with a love I hadn't been able to see because it had become lost in the tide of events, like water seeping through sand. Thanks to that music, spreading over the sea and filling the calmest night I have ever known, I could see my love for him for the first time. From "The lover " movie

At last, a piece by this composer that doesn't make me wonder who's chopin onions around here. I like the way you alternate tempo slightly, it underlines the playfulness of this waltz - and yet, Chopin manages to make even a waltz sound slightly serious and grim. Have a prettige jaarwisseling!

You just had to end the year on a pun, didn't you. But yes, there's always a dash of Chopin's misery sprinkled on top. GELUKKIG NIEUWJAAR!

Copy-pasted from another comment: ''The audio is recorded on my Steinway M with a set of AKG C414 mics. Because it's a small room I'm unable to record decent camera angles sitting behind my grand. So I just play in sync on my Roland A-88 for aesthetic reasons. How is that for inefficiency?'' That being said, there are great VST's out there of course. Keyscape is one of my favorites.

mind telling me which model or Roland it is? Your playings are so nice. Could you play Moonlight 1st, Pathetique 2nd, Etude 10, 3, Waltz 64, 1, 64, 2 in the future?
@sjaakdouma
@sjaakdouma 6 ай бұрын
This is a Roland A88, but the sound you hear is my Steinway M (check out my reply on another comment for the exact how and why). I’ll definitely play some of the pieces you mentioned in the future.
@winterheat
@winterheat 6 ай бұрын
@@sjaakdouma you mean, you recorded the sound that came from an acoustic Steinway M (a grand piano), and then record the video "in sync" on a Roland A88... first I thought at first it is a Steinway M VST... haha, you really have to be "very in sync"... like I may play Pathetique 2nd, but then every time I play it, it is slightly different kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5e7nZasqMt5p5o as you can tell, I don't know how to use the pedal, so I have pedal stepped down all the time, so the tones seem to overlap each other. I learned from Ritchan: it seems like she used the "release pedal and step on it" process as a "period" or "full stop" of a sentence. So to end the sentence, release and step (on the pedal).
@sjaakdouma

@@winterheat Your Pathetique sounds beautiful already. Just pedal each chord change, and I think it's nice to play the accompaniment in the right hand a bit softer than the melody on top. Good job!
