Wanda's Short Breakdown & Lore Speculation - Examining Her Examinations - Don't Starve Together

I 100% admit that this is definitely not the best lore breakdown or animated short analysis I have ever done but hey, I think we did fine on such short notice! I DID NOT plan on doing this today so I threw together a bunch of questions and answered most of them with even more questions! Let me know what you think and what you're feeling about, Wanda, after a weeks time with her!

Wanda has a few weird examinations for Narwhals, suggesting that her is from before they were discovered, but narwhals were discovered in 1648.

i've also noticed that too, her quotes for the compass feel like she's never even held one before but they've been around since like the 12th century

i would say maybe it's because the information wasn't out for the public before the 10th edition of Systema Naturae from the year 1758, where it's scientifically documented. In addition to the compass comment, it's mostly likely the cause of unfamiliarity to a piece of navigational equipment as she is a clock maker from the from around late 18th century to early 19th century.

I mean, if I was a shadow army trying to fight some horrific moon beast, I wouldn't mind having a time traveler on the nightmare throne. Are we sure the shadow army means her "harm" exactly? it could have just been looking for someone to sit on the throne before Maxwell took it. The future that she's running from could be a future where she replaces Charlie and is effectively trapped in the Constant permanently.

my friend has a theory that wanda is the first one who was in the constant because as we saw everything stop before cracking open the portal to the constant it's almost as if wanda CREATED if not opened a gateway to the constant. in fact my friend pointed out that constant is never changing and is a time related word, so that could have something to do with the world??? he theorized that it could be a mirror to our world and i theorized that the shadow energy from that world was leaking into their world or something and she got into some kind of dark magic like maxwell but probably before him and that's why in her cinematic we see shadowy energy around her after she makes the time jump. not sure if any of this is correct but i think that could be a large possibility.

Oh no, I think you're friend is on the right track. Notice when the portal opened she was in a birch forest much like the ones in the Constant. And when Maxwell was taken, the portal was open on a stage hosting a forest also strikingly similar to the Constant's. What bother's me is the terrorbeak that emerges from the shadow, quite literally is the tree's shadow - and this isn't an animation mistake. In the next scene, the same tree is still missing it's shadow while all the others do have one.

I'm guessing she must have been taught how to manipulate shadow magic with clockwork by some entity (maybe Wagstaff, maybe Maxwell) and just like with the Ancients (and Maxwell), her constant use of it brought the wrath of the shadow beings. I have a feeling they may have actually been trying to kill her rather than take her to the constant, but when she broke her watch it sent her back in time to when she was previously there (or would be there again, same difference). I guess we'll have to learn more before I can make any more assumptions.

She uses all the watches accept the alarming clock in the short. The rift watch in this case was her fixing the backtrek watch rather then socketing a purple gem. Also i think she was chased by them for yoinking their shadow magic for the watchs. They want revenge!!

Imagine the Pact Wanda made, grants whoever she Bargained with access to her Body as a Vessel when she Dies. Hense forth why she claims to have out smarted whoever with her deep studies into time travel. Literally prolonging the Pact beyond what was originally thought possible. Could be a shadow diety that wanted more direct influence in the world with a Vessel or maybe someone who's Trapped on the Shadow Throne in a different timeline. Maybe they just want a taste of some fresh (non-constant) air or maybe they have more nefarious goalS with the vast knowledge they gained by sitting on the Throne

I think the animated short is a metaphor - she is trying to run from her age, represented by darkness in the short, and in the game too. In attempts to escape old age, she made a deal with Charlie or Maxwell. My head canon at least.

I think the darkness literally is just the shadows, that would make sense with the rest of the game and her connection to gestalts. Also because of the dialogue from gestalts it’s most likely confirmed she made a deal with one of the two.

i don't think she's exactly running from her age, considering the shadows seem quite literally, she proclaims when yknow, basically swallowed by shadows when you die at night that she's not letting them take her so i think it's more likely that she is avoiding actual shadows

What if Wanda isstuck in a time loop? That is why she knows the past the present and the future and explains her meddling with time and how she would know the end of the constant. Not only that but the ad shows her backstory on ending up in the constant.

thinking about it now, I'm starting to think that wanda was contacted by maxwell first as a bargain for him to get off the nightmare throne. or at least attempt to with the rift clock she has in game. but wanda never holds up her end of the bargain because the control she gains might have given her snippets of what would happen in the future, or she'd know there's no way out of the constant itself once she's in, so maxwell hunts her down, but by the time charlie takes the throne, she just doesn't like there being any loose threads left outside the constant and therefore her control

A Multiverse? Its' almost as there there is three seperate games. Don't Starve (Hamlet and Shipwrecked), Don't Starve Together (this universe), and Don't Starve: New Home. To me, the Multiverse is already there.

I'd say the price she paid WAS the fracture in time. If you think about it why would she be running from time unless she already knew the price, and INVENTED a way to stay ahead of the clock. It would make sense as she isn't affected by shadow weapons. Plus she uses shadows to craft a weapon, so the fact she probably accepted the deal of using the power of shadows at the cost of her eternal soul or life force, means she must have known it was coming... that would also explain her thirst for power, she wants it so that way she can stop the Cursed Monkey Paw (the paw is a cursed artifact which grants your wish but twists it to be against you. For example, want to help someone? It will do it. But probably force you to have an early death in return. As the penance for using it.) Effect of her powers from catching up to her.

my theory is that wanda isnt from the normal timeline but from a diffrent one and her workshop is actually in the constant and she maneged to escape her constant got into a diffrent timeline time traveled alot and shattered her timestream and got into a alternate constant which her version of the shadows hitched a ride to

Heres some ideas and theories I have. First, I feel like the hand as her shadow just means that the shadows are still after her. I mean, in game noone has shadows, even Wanda. I mean it would be weird if out of them all Wanda suddenly has a shadow, but no. Also I dont really understand the Trojan Horse part. I mean if the shadows wants a trojan horse to attack the survivors, well why didnt they pick Wes? I mean hes incredibly close to the survivors, and he doesnt even speak, and hes already in the Constant. Or Wortox? Or Wurt? Why did they go all the trouble to chase her down so much just for a Trojan Horse that is too much trouble when they can just take anyone else. Wanda technically doesn't have to worry too much about the Shadows in the Constant, since well, theres a Light Dark war going. Also quick thought, would really love some cool lunar powered clocks. I mean imagine how awesome they would be, so 100 percent on board witb Wanda experimenting with Lunar energy ;D

this has got me thinking, when the ancient fuelweaver is defeated the survivors hop through the portal to the forge and then the gorge, this was never touch upon and instead Klei focused the story o the return of THEM. What if the return of them is an alternate timeline where the survivors don't fight or at least defeat the ancient fuelweaver which is why when wanda sees the moonglass covered moon dial she says "oh botheration, THIS timeline again"

Wormwood is a relatively young survivor, she really had no chase to meet him in person before the game events, so this is kinda proves that she is just saw everyone through the timerift
