With countless people working out of their homes, does it really matter WHERE they live? According to Tulsa, Oklahoma, no! The city of 400,000 that has plenty of hip coffee shops, bustling bars, and a thriving arts district also wants more telecommuters, and is willing to pay you $10,000 to relocate there. Conor Knighton talks with people who have picked up and moved to the Sooner State after signing up for the Tulsa Remote program.

Don't know what the problem is with all the naysayers here. I live in a town near Tulsa and have worked in downtown Tulsa since 2010. The breath of fresh air that the area has experienced in the last decade has been amazing. If you want to work/live in a place where it's easy to access wide-open spaces and to be a part of something great that's happening in the middle of the country, come to Tulsa-you'll be glad you did.

I was initially looking at Santa Fe, but the housing is so expensive there (good luck finding a 2BR for less than $1,000--which is more than my monthly mortgage payment on my 3BR home with a 2-car garage). By the looks of it, pay for similar jobs is about the same in Santa Fe as in the Tulsa, Oklahoma City area, which has many, many 2 BR apartments with decent amenities for as little as $600 in some places. I will visit Santa Fe, because it's pretty and makes for a beautiful vacation spot, but I'm seriously contemplating OK as a place to live to get out of these nightmarish MN winters. Plus, MN is like #5 for highest tax rates, and is becoming more hostile towards small businesses by the day.

In response to all the negative about Tulsa Public Schools: In 2010, Booker T. Washington High School (Tulsa Public Schools) placed 74th in Newsweek magazine's list of the top 100 public high schools in the US. The magazine ranked high schools according to the ratio of Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests taken by all students to the number of graduating seniors. (BTW: in the US there are 26,407 public secondary schools (high schools) and 10,693 private secondary schools.) Keep in mind: The total enrollment of Tulsa Public School is 39,609 students within 186 square miles which include 87 schools. If one would compare TPS to most "city" schools I doubt there are many differences with the exception of Booker T Washington High School, Carver Middle School, Eisenhower International School, Zarrow International School, Mayo Demonstration School, Dual Language Academy - to name a few.

Okay, I am from Oklahoma. I will give you guys some tips. If you move to Tulsa, try to move as close to the suburbs as possible and hopefully you can get your kid in a school at the suburbs. These have amazing schools that will teach your child well. Stay away from Tulsa Public Schools. Tulsa has a lot of potential and the people for the most part are great. I love to travel a lot, I love to fly and take road trips but eventually I always long for home. The people in other places just don't compare. Tulsa is not a hustle and bustle either. Only come here if you want to slow down your life, because it's definitely not Los Angeles. If you are looking to start a business this is a great place, but restaurants struggle here because there are so many of them. This is also a great place to purchase a second home on the cheap if you don't want to uproot everything.

I enjoy it, but it's not for everyone. To me I enjoy it because of the people. Some have moved from bigger cities, lived in near by towns in Oklahoma or just home grown. Whatever the case maybe you should at least come for the food we have. Grab a burger from Hanks hamburgers or go downtown to Jinyas for noodles. Maybe take a walk though Riverside or Lafortune Park. We do have alotta great things around Tulsa. I for one love this place, its home to me and will always be even if I decided to leave.

After listening to the video more than once it is apparent that many that looked at it didn't understand everything based on many of the posts. For one thing neither the city of Tulsa or state of Oklahoma is offering this money. The group offering the money is funded by the George Kaiser family foundation who gave over half the money for the downtown park on the river. Another thing that's been gotten wrong is everyone can't get the money. You have to apply to be in the program and it said the first year around 100 were accepted out of over 10 thousand applications basically 1% got it. Now ten thousand isn't a huge amount of people but most didn't get it. Some of the 100 seem to like it there so it's not as horrible as some are saying. Last they must want them to make the city more diverse and get more ideas for the future. Anybody that knows would you explain wheather they have to stay a year or get it spread over a year and what if you come then leave after 6 months do you have to give it back?

TULSA is to Oklahoma what Austin is to Texas. Is TULSA perfect - no. TULSA is the home of Bob Dylon’s archive and soon to be museum. TULSA is home to The Gathering Place named over and over again as one of the most important new attractions in the US (it’s free because of the same foundation mentioned in the story). Fleetwood Mac started their last tour at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Last month I went to a see Eddie Ezzard in the Arts District. We have the largest Unitarian Universalist Church in the country and lots of LGBT accepting churches. We have a Muslim community, a Hmong community, as well as large Asian and Latino communities. We have amazing American Indian tribes investing and creating economic opportunities. Every day there is activity preparing for the anniversary of the 1921 Race Riot which focuses on reconciliation and truth. I was born here and gone for 20 years and am daily amazed at how much TULSA has changed. We have a progressive major and council. OKC even elected a Democratic congresswoman last year. We have a long list of amazing people in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is not the musical.

The education system is terrible and the state is lacking in many other areas too. We work remotely and moved back here for family. Only positive to doing so is that it is super cheap to live.
