I live in an area next to an airport and even with permission to fly I still can’t DJIs stupid geofencing to unlock after many attempts So frustrating! And after 20 minutes of trying to unlock to take off, I get altitude warnings and the mavic automatically goes down. It’s a no brainer for me. The ATOM excels over DJI in so many ways. Glad I switched!

Great review with some good tips getting the best out of the camera. Many say you can't get ND filters to fit this drone, but you can. Neewer makes ND filters and other filters for the DJ1 drones. They also fit the Potensic Atom. The shape of the hook that fits at the back of the camera is different to the official DJ1 ND filters. They just clip on Atom camera with no problems

Thanks for the review. I get mine in two days and am hoping I made a right choice. I was tempted by DGI Mini 3 but this was considerably lower in price. True there are advantages with DGI but as it's my first decent/pricey (for me) drone I thought on balance this would be a good start.

Well done video - THANKS! I have a question though (and if you don't know the answer, welcome to the club)... Do both the aircraft AND the controller contain a GPS module? I am very sure the aircraft does (of course) but does the stick controller contain one as well, or totally rely upon the phone or tablet GPS to know where the pilot/controller/home is located? It is a simple question, but so far I get best guesses only. Again, no worries if you have no idea. I'm asking because I want to use an ipad which is wi-fi and bluetooth only, no GPS at all (although it can and does store maps easility at home prior to flights). I have NOT downloaded the App or tried the iPad - just need to know if is a No-Go anyway because of no GPS on the tablet. Hope this makes sense. Thanks again!

Hi, what a nice detailed review! I want to ask about RAW photos you have mentioned before. Is it really RAW / DNG files or is it JPEG only? The same goes for video. Do we have D-Cinelike profile or LOG profile? Thanks in advance!

It’s really raw and JPG if you want. As for video there’s no log profiles at all. D-Cinelike is only for DJI.

Excellent drone! We love/d ours but I can confirm that they don't work underwater in rivers. I managed to get the SD card back (praise the Lord!).Yes, I tried fresh-water rinsing the drone, drying it out and giving it a go - it started smoking and I had visions of our boat being consumed by fire!... Replacement required, will buy again!

How good is the camera quality, and what size sd card do you recommend?

64gb card should be ok to start. I’d recommend a fast one, as you don’t want to waiting around while it buffers after a shot. But in saying that, it also comes with one, which is nice.

A problem for regular working class people most if these photo quality points guys like you point out would never mean zip to us. We just want it to go where we want and record the sites and ultimately do it well and come back to launch site. We're not movie makers or National Geographics professionals. Blabla. Dandahermit.😮😅😅

Although I might get a little technical with image quality, I think it gives you a good idea of what to expect. But also, not all people are the same, so I’m trying to cover not just ‘working class’ but also people who might want to know more also.

Your not getting any response back to your controller because the Bluetooth mic 🎙️ is to close to your controller. They are both sharing the 2.4GHZ frequency. Turn off the Bluetooth mic 🎙️ and issue resolved 🙏🏾

The video quality is shimmering and stuttering it's not smooth. I will save a bit more to get the DJI for a better smooth quality. 100 bucks more and get DJI mini 3 with no regrets.

I don't see any stuttering or 'shimmering' for me, it might be the compression from YT. Dynamic range is really the only issue I have with the video quality.

The DJI mini 2 is a way better value. You can find a used mini 2 fly more combo for under $300 also not to mention the better app and just better quality. There is still no competition to DJI unfortunately

Having flown the Mini 3, I’d say this compares more closely to that than the Mini 2. But either way, I’m liking a little more competition in the market
