I’d recommend stiffer exhaust hangers. It will keep it from twisting so bad.

tomei actually does not recommend stiffer hangers cause it can break the exhaust.

Remove the shield and wrap the exhaust with heat shield instead. Also stiffer hangers might help as well

I think maybe the reason could be the metal expanding and contracting with heat, and those cycles could potentially re-shape the thing a bit. For example, the position of an exhaust tip when a car being driven with a hot engine versus when it’s parked and cold can differ markedly.

So you adjusting the pipes fixed the problem and the heat wrap is on incase it does move again it won’t scrape?

Doing the wrap on a straight pipe like that is fine.. but usually it helps to soak the wrap in water before you wrap to make it more plyable

Great job, I'd apply some protective foil tape etc. on the transmission tunnel though, in case some dirt or debree gets in between the rubbing exhaust it might rig into the paint and cause rust issues in the long rung, but probably not. Just my OCD.

Didn’t know you were in the same area as Cameron! I haven’t seen a brz riding around the area. Hopefully one day I’ll get to see/hear it in person. Got an ST about two years ago and kinda wished I’d waited for the GR86 to come out!

My understanding is that all 1st gen exhausts fit the 2nd gen. I put the borla catback on mine about 3 weeks ago. Its been all good.

@@Speedster_ELuu86 I have yet to hear of a system that doesnt fit. This specific one just looks like it needed the rear exhaust hanger bent a bit. I would have brought it to an exhaust shop before I messed with heat shields and wrapped it. There are several others using the same tomei kit on a 22 without reported problems. I bet its just an off spec part with an improperly bent\located hanger.

I have the same exhaust for my gr86 and tbh I haven’t seen anything wrong with it at all it just probably might be on how you put it on I assume who knows but I haven’t have a problem

That's the thing sometimes with aftermarket parts or parts that are not 100% specific to the car. First attempt to fix it, the Jeremy Clarkson way, is so recognizable LOL. Hope this wrap fixes the issue, would feel so good if the solution can be this easy and cheap. Sta safe and healthy. #TrueOG

You can see how sideways it is in the video. Easy and proper fix.
