I have 1 triceps exercise that is for some reason almost magical compared to others, the skull crusher variation where you let the bar go behind your head, the elbow is not locked in and you use the lat a little bit at the bottom. I got stretch marks on both arms from that exercise alone.

I love the emphasis on health and functionality. Elbows and shoulders are such a possible pain point and too many start with perfect mobility but after few years of the gym can no longer do proper shoulder presses or other exercises. (And it's refreshing to see focus on overall functional health, too much focus on "just hypertrophy" recently on other channels where the proposed best exercises and tweaks are only guesses/extrapolations and don't really make a big difference in practice)

loved the last take of the video about longterm functional, overall athletic and health benefits. i feel like alot of people get way to stuck in training just for size and looks when in reality there isnt even a real trade off when you include other aspects of training. pure "bodybuilding" seems like nonsense for most people. getting the same or very similar results while maintaining great flexibilty and overall athletic capability makes way more sense to me. ty for your content. great work
@adammiller91793 күн бұрын
But you can't be a bodybuilder without a healthy body. So even if you train for size and looks, you need to maintain your body or you can't train at all.
@coacheugeneteo3 күн бұрын
Yes!! Most of us aren't looking to maximise every single little detail to get on a bodybuilding stage.
@coacheugeneteo3 күн бұрын
@@adammiller9179I disagree. Have you seen the 'health' and overall functionality of most bodybuilders? Not to rag on it, but the pursuit of pure bodybuilding intentionally means neglecting other aspects to physical fitness and training such as athleticism, mobility and speed/power. Even without taking the drug/diet/competition side out of the equation and assuming natural trainees. Youre spot on that a degree of maintenance needs to be sustained so you can continue to train, but that is surprisingly little when you look across general populations in gyms
@adammiller91793 күн бұрын
@@coacheugeneteo Maybe I'm mostly speaking from my own experience and the fitness influencers I agree with and not the extreme 1% and competitors. But I work out more for the resulting physique and perhaps less so for the health benefits. But I love doing it more than anything, and I do whatever it takes to maintain the health of my body so that I am able to continue doing it, sometimes putting "gainz" on the back burner to address issues. That means mobility warm-ups, one or two athletic movements per workout, proper diet, cardio base, and maintaining a minimum of foundational movements. But all that in a pursuit to look better 😄.

could've talked about the fact that overhead extensions put the long head on a stretched position so those could be the best variation overall if someone wants to stick to one exercise purely for muscle growth. I personally really like doing pushdowns so i mix a straight bar pushdown and an overhead triceps extension exercise. i get to have fun and get a nice hypertrophic stimulus.
@nintendoborn2 күн бұрын
Honestly I’d say you should target the long head because mine was heavily under developed by training only press and push downs

Are Weighted Dips and cross-body cable extensions sufficient enough for a complete tricep workout?

Not in my opinion. Most essential elbow extension movements involve putting the triceps in stretch in shoulder flexion (French press), and putting tension on the elbow joint (JM press).

Instead of thinking about “hitting triceps heads” consider elbow extension as a function, and think about range and tension. Train the triceps in short range (kickbacks) as a warmup, and move to long range (stretched/tension) triceps work occurring at the shoulders (French press) and at the elbow (JM press).

How a video on bodyweight tricep work outs?
@lowfrequencywizard3 күн бұрын
I love how your recent videos debunks and clarifies some issues that have been going around in the fitness industry for a while now. Something I’m struggling to understand - does this apply to biceps, too? Since both heads cross the shoulder joint there. Wouldn’t that imply, that chin ups barely work the biceps, since it would shorten at the elbow while lengthen at the shoulder? Which of course would be nonsense, since countless people build amazing biceps through chins. Maybe you can help me wrap my head around that. Cheers!
@shakal.Күн бұрын
I think the difference could be that biceps is only weakly assisting the shoulder flexion so in its case, flexing the elbow kind of "wins" over flexing shoulder. Or from the shortening/lengthening perspective, the length of the triceps stays almost the same length during the exercise as it shortens on one and lengthens on the other end, but biceps does get longer in the bottom part of the movement and shorter in the upper part when doing chin ups.
@lowfrequencywizard14 сағат бұрын
that sounds reasonable, and I think I understand now why it’s always recommended to pair them with curls for the best result; with one you work with a higher load, with the other you get a higher activation. Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me man, really appreciate it. Cheers

I thought it was already obvious that one Pushdown variant for the lateral/medial head, and any kind of overhead extension for the long head will be more than enough. Why overcomplicate triceps? You can it with ropes, bars, handles, etc, whatever feels better for you. ( rope will hit the long head a bit more in the pushdown though, but that's my experience )
@subhamhalder34313 күн бұрын

@coacheugeneteo3 күн бұрын
I'm sorry but if this is "overcomplicated" for you then I think you need a lot more help. 1. Rope doesn't hit the long head more. 2. Your experience doesn't apply to every single other human on this planet - that's why we have the entire field of science and need to understand these concepts on a very basic level so people can make their own logical and smart decisions based on what feels best for them.
