Just a FYI, my guy at the local Indian dealer just called me to let me know that Indian made a mistake when they figured the production costs of the FTR 1200's. They raised the base cost by $500 so the FTR 1200 starts at $13,499 and the FTR 1200 S starts at $15,499. Now, the Race Replica's price went up by $1,000 because they added the Akrapovic slip on exhaust to the bike at the factory so if you chose this paint option, you won't have to buy the exhaust after taking delivery. So, either way you look at it, you're saving either $500 or $1000 with the Race Replica since it will automatically come with the aftermarket exhaust. He told me to go to the Indian website to check while we talked if I could so I didn't think they were trying to raise the price themselves and the price increase is on the website. Not sure if anyone in the comments here have said this but I have read where some people are saying Indian will never sell any of these due to the changes made from the original prototype. Well we talked about this and my local dealer has all their preordrers spoken for with more waiting to see bike in person before deciding and a dealer they do a lot of dealer trades with has deposits on 16 preorders for the FTR 1200. I know this doesn't speak for the whole country but it shows promise. Would be interesting to know how other dealers across the country are doing in regards to preorders. Just thought I'd share this info.

This is the most powerful Twin cylinder engine leaving the Ducati L twin behind. The torque punches as strong as 115.24 Nm and output power is 89.5 kW that makes it the estimated top speed is as high as 234.3 km/h. Besides the price Indian puts on the tag, I would wait and see how FTR 1200 engines handle the compress pressure for reliability. But power of a bike is not everything when one approaches to purchase a bike. I would buy XSR900 with 11.5:1 compress ratio where the three in line cylinder handling the 86kW @10,000 output with proven reliability that Yamaha stands for.

They make cruisers . Thats where their money is. Google it. look them up .. XR 1200. There is even a race series callers the Vance and hines XR 1200 series. So they actually were race bikes for the street.

No real new technology here. Ducati and KTM have been designing and building bikes incorporating these features for years. I really like the looks of the FTR but at roughly 500 lbs wet its kind of heavy compared to the Euros. I wish the FTR was made 60- 50 lbs lighter. The cost of the FTR is also a concern. If you buy the S for 16K and add a touring or off road package your looking at over 20K. For less than 20K you can buy a KTM 1290 Super Duke which pumps out 180 horses out of its V-twin, is well suspended, has amazing technology and weights much less than the FTR. The FTRs does have the advantage in looks.

They speak about all the things they did to reduce weight, but it's still 222kg dry!? That may be light for an Indian, but it's not light. A Ducati Monster 1200 is 40kg lighter at 182kg, why is the FTR so heavy? Not saying I don't want one, I was just hoping it would be lighter. btw, here's one in action with an aftermarket exhaust. instagram.com/p/BpgWMNOgpvC/?taken-by=ftr1200christoph

Why is the power output so low? It’s putting out 33% less power than the KTM...If it’s a cruiser, okay, but for a flat track racer? The airbox position is the same as KTM, so tried & tested. 13 litres? It’ll be like the old V12 E type jaguars that could pass anything except a gas station. The seat is butt ugly, like off a cheap 250cc Virago. I’m sure this will be popular in Murica...but it’s a very dated design and concept.

Good general vid. Got my $$ down since Oct. All I've got to say is, if you're a hater because you felt you were fooled, then yes, you are a fool. It's a new bike from a small/reborn motorcycle manufacturer! Of course they're going to appeal to your visual stimuli! Trolling commences... BUT! Before they even began taking this rig out for the national Demo days at dealerships, Indian made it clear that they had a line up of 40+ accessories coming for this single model. I thought to myself, yeah sure, we'll see them late next year, and whamo! They've got the lineup all ready to release with the bike this spring.

I have an 09 Harley XR1200 and I am SO HAPPY to see Indian building a faster, modern flat track inspired bike like my lovely XR. But I am torn, should I trade up, or just Upgrade my XR? Also the FTR1200S has adjustable shocks, front and rear with adjustable preload, so you can adjust the preload to lower it down to flatfoot the bike. My XR has a 30.5 in Seat Height and I can't flatfoot it, so the shocks on the S model are a MUST HAVE, I would love to know how much a Deposit is for an FTR1200S.

I like the looks of this bike, my only problem is that when you look at it against something like the KTM 1290 Super Duke the stats just let it down vs the price, if it was $3000 cheaper then it would be great, but at this price it puts it in with the Duke and the Tuono and Monster, in that company it is mediocre at best (except for the looks! where it is the winner iMO!)

Pretty cool bike, will be looking forward to seeing your riding videos once you get it. I'm glad they went with chain drive instead of belt. Chain drive is only about a 3% power transfer loss (so I've read anyway). A little better power transfer than a belt, but not by much. The thing about the trellis frame though; it looks like it would be a nightmare to have to do any engine work. Maybe you just drop the engine straight down out of the frame? I don't know how that would work, but obviously it wouldn't be as easy to work on as your Nightster.

The majority of buell bikes have engine/chassis integration and hes one of the best innovative chassis designers in the history of motorcycles And well as alot of superbikes do the same thing. Nothing wrong with it. Lightens the whole bike. 1 part doing 2 jobs.
@Joseph93-k6q Жыл бұрын
Mostly, all sports bikes that are worth a damn have an engine as a stressed member. This gets into chassis dynamics and engineering. I will say this the stronger the frame is on any motorcycle, the better ride and handleing you will have. So a stressed member engine is pretty much where you get a trellis frame from. It's also lighter. Witch itself has many advantages. Like better power to weight ratio.

I've got a 2018 Scout with the full stage 1 kit which puts it close to the FTR in HP and the low fuel indicator light came on right at 136 miles. I was about 3 miles from gas station when the light came on so I went and filled up to see how much fuel was left when the light came on, for future reference. I had .7 gals left with a 3.3 gal tank and when you do the math, I got just over 52 mpg. Oh and this is with my Scout only having just under 900 miles on it so it could get better with more miles. Of coarse, mpg all depends on throttle control and I've only been riding for about a year so I don't do a whole lot of hot dogging.....yet lol. I might once I take delivery of the FTR :) So yea, poor throttle control could net you less then 100 miles per tank while good throttle control could get you to at least 150 miles per tank with a 3.4 gal tank.
