How can you measure successful business development? What are some metrics that businesses can use?

What you measure moves. So make sure that you measure metrics which are going to impact your business positively. Also beaware that as soon as you create a metric, your sales team will work how how to game it? Each role should have metrics relevant to their position and seniority. More junior roles can be measured on meetings, calls, leads but more senior roles should be more closely P&L driven but watch out they are not incentivised to close deals regardless of profitability or conditions?
