I just got hired on with a petroleum pipeline company as a laborer. I think what really helped me get in was having a CDL. I've applied to hundreds of pipeline companies throughout the US and what I have realized is that its extremely hard to get in even as a laborer without having any kind of construction laborering experience. Never give up if this is what you want to do.

One was a waiter and the other was a bartender with a degree but they "knew somebody" in the field. This is when gas was $3+ per gallon in Texas. Making 13 or $15 an hour is not shit I work from McCormick as a machine operator and I make $20 an hour and I've been with them for only 5 years when I started off I started off at 16 so to bring home $2,000 a week you got to kick in on a shitload of hours I don't know how many hours they're working in the pipeline but to bring home 1500 to $2,000 a week I'm expecting to make a lot more than what I'm making now I work in roughly the same amount of hours anywhere from 50 to 65 hours a week
@JuanCastillo-df8np5 жыл бұрын
django jango we get perdiem too besides the hours. In Virginia they paying $144 everyday. That’s about a thousand in just per diem.
@djangojango31705 жыл бұрын
@@JuanCastillo-df8np I understand that brother $144 per diem per day yes quite a bit of money and that is almost $1,000 a week but how much of that $144 if you don't have your own trailer or your own camper does a person just starting off or starting out in the pipeline industry have to pay per day or per week for hotel expenses not including food sober someone like me if I were to start off I wouldn't have a camper I wouldn't have my own trailer I would have to rent out a hotel and basically most or all of that $144 per day per diem would you go on Hotel expenses and food so how much am I really keeping out of that $144 basically nothing so I'll I'll be getting this my hourly Pay Plus any overtime that I may get throughout the week because if people are making 1500 to $2,000 a week on their paychecks I was thinking that was just based off of hourly wages plus overtime I wasn't included the $144 per diem per day to me that $144 can very easily be spent on hotel and food throughout the week so I'm not basing my income off of any per diem that they give out I base it off my hourly wages times my hours that I put in per week that's my income anything else is basically they're just paying for room and board putting it on your paycheck and then you have to pay taxes on it at the end of the year versus them paying for your room and board and your food separately that way you wouldn't have to pay taxes on that at the end of the year so then paying you $144 a day it is part of your income I understand that but at the end of the year you have to pay taxes on it one way or the other day going to get you on that per diem

Whatever you do don’t do to college unless you “NEED” to become a doctor, lawyer, banker, or engineer. Most of the time if you get your degree for that job it’s silly. Elon musk said it’s not for learning but for fun, when he dropped out from getting his PHD.

Darth Darth Binks if you’re only goal in life is too have a 200k salary (but you gotta pay half to malpractice), so 100k salary a year for life, for 8 years is a waste, considering doctors who make that much aren’t actually educated on medicine but rather educated on prescription drugs. There’s already the pipeline (laborer or welders assistant) that makes almost that much with no experience/prior education, it is a harder job than being a big Pharma Doctor, but it takes a while for a doctor to be promoted. To become a welder you can get a promotion in a day. It depends how fast you learn.
@tito1rocks3 жыл бұрын
@@darthdarthbinkss college will increase your salary but you'll spend half of that a year possibly paying it all back. For 30 years. Now college isn't the golden ticket at all, its a way for schools to fuck you over. Trade schools might be the best option for you, and with welding you don't even need school, just prove you can weld up to certification standards, get certified and you're golden. Your grasp on what a laborer does is very limited, A pipeline labourer does everything and anything that what I love about it, everyday is something different, there are thousands of pipeliners who are carreer laborers because they love it, there is no better job. I make $35 an hour, 80 to 90 hrs a week, take home $3k a week after taxes. As a laborer you could be doing, water control, fencing, oiler, swamper, mainline, tie-ins, coating, utilities, flagging, clean up, set up, hot lines, stringing, bending, lowering in, fusing, spotting, etc etc thousands of different jobs for a labourer, if your a good worker, and you don't have to be strong or fast worker, but a safe steady dependable worker , who does what he's told, can think on his feet, doesn't cause drama and gets along with others, shows up on time, stays late if he has to, takes initiative then you will move up. I was straw boss now im Forman. A good labourer needs to know a thousand different skills not just one thing. @@JohnDoe-xl1ig yeah the work is in remote locations luckily pretty tricky to get there, i work in camps so the work site is near and get accommodations, but definitely should try it out even as a labourer the pay is great and then can later move up the ranks as a heavy equipment operator

Is there anyone hiring right now. March/April 2020? With this virus and layoff going down?
@damoncrockett93214 жыл бұрын
I got 4 years experience operating , mainly mini excavators but I have some seat time on a cat 320 as well and I have a class A cdl. How hard do you think it would be for me to get hired on pipeline? I'm interested but don't know a good company to apply to or even where the work is going on at. And what hourly rate should I ask for if I do find one that's hiring?

@@meltedhersheys5272 HDD is very demanding work. Your never just an operator, you do all aspects of the job it can be a bit much sometimes. I make 25 an hr now because pay at my company has gone stagnant for awhile but have had offers for up to 35 an hour. Been thinking about getting out of the trades though it's a whole lot of headache, trucking is looking better every day lol.
