Azrael is Still My Favorite Character, he helped War without question and he chose to face his judgment head on without trying to make his words faulty. He was more of an Angel then Abbadon was ever

let me guess, the same guy who voiced the Elder God in Legacy of Kain also voiced Azrael? EDIT: nevermind, just checked who voice who. Azrael is by Keith Szarabajka while the Elder god is by Tony Jay, my bad but I gotta say when I listen to him as Azrael I can almost hear the Elder God so if there is anyone who can do it I believe Keith can since Tony Jay is........ well...... rip. The man has also voiced the Crow Father in Darksiders 2 so he has a broad voice acting range, also if you've played Dawn of war 2 and then played Darksiders and thought to yourself that Azrael sounds familiar, it's cause he voiced Apollo Diomedes

Azrael was a great character and a good example of what the Angels should have been - minus his folly in believing Abaddon. But if we were to be fair, they were like brothers and I doubt War or Death would have doubted their brother's word either. His speech about why he helps War even though he knows it will likely lead to his death is one of the best in a game full of great speeches.

No. War was the only one with the character to choose duty in name of the balance above else. Casting aside doubts and questions. Besides... The Councel pretty much wants the horsemen out of the way that much is clear by now but with all four of them it would be hard. Dont forget that the council already knew of heavens scheming but had no proof. They simply put a soldier that asks no question into the field as a scapegoat only to prove his innocence. Just as they did with Fury battling the deadly sins hoping they would destroy each other in their respective missions. The Council fears to be overthrown eventually. Lucifer, Samael, Lilith, Corruption and maybe even the merchants like Vulgrim all play their own schemes in a bid for power and ambition and the horsemen being the pawns of it.

@@canilhan98 - The council explains this in the game during a flashback. They said something like "We will accuse one who's honor alone will be enough to seek revenge.". They knew War's honor code would mean he would stop at nothing to clear his name. The Council Could not act against Abbadon even though they knew his scheme and that he was responsible as they had no proof since the seals were reforged by Ulthane and the Armageddon Blade was hidden.

omnimon2230 i only have 2 issues with this series. 1. if the charred council was really so hell bent on keeping the balance. why was war punished. 2. when azreal told the truth about abbadon and his involvement. why was war not set free of his punishment. and what i mean by 2, is by christian law. when a contract is fulfilled, (say by selling your soul to th devil, hypothetical) that the magical powers that bind you to said contract get broken. so why was war not released from the watcher.

Yeah I do believe it he was talking about Man (starting with Adam and Eve). But eventually the Nephilim put Eden to the sword and tried to take the realm for their own. That was when Death, War, Fury, and Strife all grew sick of the constant cosmic slaughter their kind had been on and submitted to the Charred Council to become their enforcers to restore and maintain balance (and their first mission, after begin given vast power beyond what they had naturally, was to slaughter all of their brethren on the battlefield of Eden and destroy their souls... only one got done though as we find out in DSII).

Yes, otherwise there really wouldn't be a novel based on it xD. The novel (The Abomination Vault) is technically a prequel to both Darksiders games and was meant to serve as a promotion to the second game a month before its release. It's a really good read. I recommend it.

athan336 the only thing I can discern is their job description. Death is as his name suggests, the Physical embodiment of death itself. While Azriel is the archangel of the dead themselves, or at least their souls? But it’s repetitive because Death also runs into the King of the Dead whom actually leads Death to the souls of humanity, who Az is suppose be the guardian of. It’s a bit convoluted.

Death brings death, Azrael watches over it. The only active thing he did Death wise, assuming the Old Testament of the Bible is fully canon, was the thing where he killed the firstborn of every non-Israelite in Egypt. Beyond that he seems to mainly watch over and keep an eye on the flow of souls in and out of this world, as War claims no souls leave or enter the world without him aware of it.

***** I really think Samael was "Nigh Omnipotent" in both games. And Azrael May have been Nigh Omnipotent at some point, because since he was able to hide the Garden Of Eden in a different realm in DS1 and only War was able to recognize it. Not to mention Death is probably Nigh Omnipotent as well, he defeated Samael for the demon key.

Al Jairo Oh sorry I was mixing omipotent with all knowing in which case no. If these beign did have such power then they would be more powerful and nearly unstobbable in the game. Azrael being able to hide Eden doesn't meaan he's one of the strongest characters otherwise he wouldn't have lost and been captured.

Actually both Azrael and Samael are Angels of Death. I guess the writers' brilliance that they both Guard the gate to the well of souls. Also , the Horseman of Death isn't the Angel of Death. The 2 are separate entities , at least in the Bible.

In the Darksiders novel "The Abomination Vault" he does a lot of fighting actually. But he is a long range Mage so nothing super up close and physical. He had magics that surprised and impressed even Death in the book. It is on Amazon as and Audio Book, it is pretty good if you like the Darksiders lore and world.

Probably because war meets all the major characters I'm the plot. These guys caused the apocalypse while fury witness the aftermath. I feel like all the games are good, they just changed the style to fit the story of each game. 1 being during and after everything has fallen, 2 before everything happened, 3 explore the earth kingdom before the humans got wiped out. Plus fury isn't supposed to be the smart one so it makes sense that the writing is dumb down. Even so, I found her a joy to listen too.

From biblical mythology and Quranic Michael and Azrael are considered to be the most powerful archangels (after Lucifer's fall). Then Samael (which in Judaism is a separate Archangel, but in Christian mythology Samael is Lucifer. With Lucifer just being a Babylonian title for "Morning Star/Light Bringer" which is what they called their Kings), Gabriel comes directly after those 3, seeing as he's the Archangel of Knowledge, Prophecy and Ministry. I am not amused by the terms, i wish different ones were used. "Angel of death", too powerful to be givin in to small fry demons, also no comic ever makes sence. Angel of death takes all peoples souls who are due death. So if the angel of death is dead or not working how come people die lol. anyways this is the most simplest question which no comic so far can answer. Death will die on the day judgement and when it does it will actually mean no more deaths, you either go to hell, Heaven, or in between. those who entres heaven will never entre Hell but some of those who entres hell will promote to Heaven after they have paid for the sins. And those with permanent/great sinners like Chuchhill/Hittler/Natanyaho/Bush/Obama etc will remain within it forever in hell.
