The song deals with a friend, whose life was taken away from drunkenness, who withdraws from reality, having to pay the consequences. Because of the song's length in the album version, at 6:59, the single radio edit version of 3:59 omits the slower introduction plus the second verse of the song.

Quite the group - they wouldn’t do interviews back in the day with anyone who’d never seen one of their shows, they felt that if you haven’t seen them perform that you could never understand them. My absolute favorite of theirs is “The World is a Ghetto”, long version of course, incredibly soulful.

"City, Country, City" if you like awesome instrumentals. "Me and Baby Brother" for dancing. Saw them down here in New Orleans a few years back at the Bayou Bash. That was the Lowrider Band version which is comprised of all the original members except Lonnie Jordan who I've also seen who now uses the War name. Lowrider Band gets the nod of the two for me. Awesome night.

1972-freshman year in college, me and best buddy were DJs at the station. Every Friday night we had 'dance party' with the beautiful coeds in the station lobby. We tag-teamed; while I cued the next record while he was groovin' with the chicks, all the cats were there too. Then we would switch out, I danced and he cued. Also War played ALL DAY MUSIC, one of the best love songs of the '70s.

I'm always late to the party! :-D My mom used to take me and go watch some of the band members play in the park in long beach when I was still in diapers. 66ish. She followed the success of the band and bought the LPs as they came out. I always considered them kinda family in a way. Eric Burdon being the weird and cool uncle type. Love the song choice!
