I’ve always wanted to check this place out. Some incredibly cool stuff in there. “If those planes could talk,” there would be some crazy stories to tell. Nice trip!

I’m heading to Tucson next week to do some more walk arounds in the Pima Air and Space museum. That place is really full of stories!

VC-12? God, I miss those guys. They were stationed in Gitmo when I went on Det there.

That Crusader is in awfully good shape, considering. It would be nice if someone could restore that, at least for static display.😉

I think it could be slated for resto…. It’s parked at a place that restores old A4s and other aircraft. Would love to find out its future.

Anything’s possible. How much will it cost is the question

But why are the planes ruined beyound repair?
@112_adventures6 ай бұрын
Examples like this often sit untouched for years due to extreme costs to maintain in an airworthy state. They either get slated for restoration if someone can fund it or they can slated as a source of spare parts for others flying or being restored.

These planes don't 'sit'. The chairs have been taken away. So sad. Sit epidemic.

@@kiereluurs1243 still better than the alternative - cut up for scrap, or even worse, pushed off the side of an aircraft carrier.

Any number of reasons for the plane to end up where it is, life limit for the airframe, phase out of type with no buyers (other countries}, etc. the one had its wings sawn off to demil it, the wing is built as one complete piece so it will never fly again without serious money and a replacement wing. The boneyard is where they are picked for useable parts to keep the remaining aircraft flying, the metal shell is only worth scrap value at that point unless a company is able to purchase a number of them to return to service.
