I find this game utterly incomprehensible. I have started the game a couple of times but I find myself staring at the screen randomly clicking things... not a clue. This helps a bit I suppose... well it teaches you about one small aspect of what to do before you start a multiplayer game... I suppose. Edit: The second video in the series gives a bit more of an idea about game play. Thanks.

I believe so yes. It also allows you to unlock stars which you can use to unlock units. Trying some of the first missions is definitely a good place to start.

It's easier to learn this game if you realise how easy it is to lose units and how careful you have to be. That's one reason I suggested these units. As for other units I will look at every unit in the game through these tutorials one by one in separate videos.

You can take the T-72B but the accuracy is greatly reduced and the side armour is worth it. I wouldn't not get a unit just because it costs more to unlock. The Polish AA chopper is very situational, I'll probably talk about it soon in a PACT tutorial.

Most of them are for messing about in fun games or when I'm bored of playing serious. I think I only genuinely use one deck for ranked play for example.

I picked this game up cheap off Steam, so I am WAY late to the party. Haven't played much yet. However, based on the news out of Ukraine these days, all the Pact units in this game seem to be overpowered compared to their actual performance. Regardless, even 9 years after you put out this video, we're still watching. Thanks for the tips!

I bought the entire Wargame series (including the two bundled Steel Division games) last Black Friday (2021) and I'm just now getting into it. I'm starting out with EE. Other than playing Supreme Commander (released 2007!) and it's community expansion, FAF (still has 100s of players daily!), I'm new to the genre. I agree about his tips. Great video. Nice pacing and clear spoken. Only, it's not as basic as the title would make you think eg. what are those gold stars for?

Quick question, is it worth playing Wargame or just going straight into Normandy 44? I usually play Company of Heroes so I imagine there will be a steep learning curve!!

Wargame has a very high learning curve indeed. Wargame is a completely different beast to Steel Division though so just play whichever setting you prefer.

As a new player, I think that this tutorial gets into deck/unit specifics far too quickly. For instance, at one point, the author is talking about optimizing AA for the Soviet player's deck. In the meantime, I don't even really know what a deck is (and explaining in these comments is not the place to do so). I'd like more discussion on the different classes of units and why we need a deck in the first place and other topics at a high level first. Sorry, but this tutorial doesn't do it for me. Hopefully, I'll have better luck with tutorial #2.

Vulcan as a new player who plans on first jumping into the single player campaign which one of the Wargame series games would you suggest first?. If this one's AI is completely unfair I would imagine for a beginner it would be impossible to really have any success in the single player. I would like a more balanced AI for my first Wargame. boomersooner41377 I believe Red Dragon has the best singleplayer experience. It's not exactly important that you play one before the other so you can jump on in to that campaign. Set it to easy to get the hang of it.

it is like a total war game but with a larger map and more units, but it can't really be compared because so far all the total war games are about formations of troops crashing into each other whereas Wargame has more modern warfare.

Thats disappointing I can't be bothered fighting one off battles. Do any of the other games in the series have a solo campaign mode? I was hoping the Wargame series would be a sort of modern warfare equivalent of the Totalwar series.

Red Dragon has the most developed campaign. Has a campaign map with sectors and a story. You move army sections around in order to fight battles in a persistent campaign. I would search on KZbin for it because I personally haven't played the solo very much in any of these games. Definitely don't be scared of trying out the multiplayer because there are some great communities.

I ended up buying the entire franchise pack in the hope that one of them would have a playable SP campaign. It looked like Air/Landings and Red Dragon might have SP campaigns worth playing. But when I tried I discovered that none of the games has an 'active pause' function that would allow an SP player time time think and manage their units. So. it looks like I wasted my money as the SP game is unplayable even when there is something worth playing. I'm told there is a hack programme that allows you to force an active pause function but I'm dubious about being able to get that to work.

David Hatch I've honestly never felt I've needed to pause Wargame, the only function they added was to speed them up I believe (in the campaign) because games can take a while. It's a very reactive real time strategy game, pausing is counter-productive to the game type.

I've been playing World of Tanks recently, and the win ratio is easily the worst part about it. Especially the fact that it's public to anyone, and there are mods that show everyone's WR at the beginning of a match. This is used to attack other players, label them, or just ignore their opinions altogether. It makes losing streaks more stressful than they need to be -- and between random team battles and grinding tanks no one is safe from those. Glad to hear that Wargame doesn't have that.

boogie3 here, i think tutorial is ok, but the units are too expensive for beginner, beginner will lost many units at the start (no matter if he is pr0-strategy gamer or not, mastering Combat mission series may help though, but not too much). I think U should recommend units that are relatively cheap for what they are doing, and most of all U should recommend AA inf (cheap unit to stop early heli rushes, i do that on low lvl by myself :P) and MBTs are better for start than M1s IMO, boogie out

I am all up for playing a hard game, but this takes the piss. I find Wargame Red Dragon easier and more enjoyable. On European Escalation you get Fu*ked by the Ai and you cant push up because you find youself trying to focus on way to many troops and worrying about way too many flanks (well thats my opinion lil) I cant do the 6th mission as you said in the video and so I cant go forth in the campaign so I am slightly sad about that because I want to do all the missions :(

This game is not fun. I mean, I have played some really hard core games like this before, but the biggest problem with this game is a lack of tutorial in working out how to reinforce your units, right through to how to manage the units properly and basic assistance like any other war game I have played, in order to move forward. Makes sense, is that to much to ask?. In this game, yes it is to much to ask. Guess work is what it is to start with, which unfortunately gives this game a low score from my point of view, a 3/10, meaning shite and aggravating. RUSE although a much less technical game, for game play is a 6/10. Very unimpressed with Wargame: European Escalation due to a lack of in game basic tutorial, which is all one needs in order to progress. I do not need strategic advice, just how to get the units I need onto the field, and the basics. Dumb game that is built on guess work. Not fun, a fucking annoyance if I am honest. Will not be investing in any other Wargame franchises again, that is for sure. Kills this game for me I am afraid the lack of beginner assistance. Why we have to come to some nerd on KZbin to get a tutorial, when it should be in the game already to me shows that this game unfortunately is deeply flawed. Not worth buying. Waste of money.

+sambozauk Wargame: European Escalation is very outdated now in comparison to the new games, especially Red Dragon. They learned a lot from their mistakes as they went along with many major changes. I think people get put off by this game now thinking the first game in the series would be the best, but it's arguably the worst. Also, if you are looking for strong singleplayer look elsewhere. Red Dragon improved on it a lot but this game is based around a strong multiplayer community which is not hard to get into (although the game is challenging to learn), and the success of my channel relies on them greatly.

No I play PVP, but I play proper PVP gaming. This game is far from an agreeable and efficient PVP game. EUGEN games, French remember, we know how the French do things. It makes what should be an excellent game, then f's it up by little odd things added in. Like, ermm no tutorial. Only a French company would do that. RUSE, brilliant game, but it has some seriously annoying issues that no one other than myself and close friends seem to see. But then again, when you have played games like EVE Online since 2003, games like RUSE and this Wargame: European Escalation will always fall well short of what I think is a good game. And people like you misunderstand what I have been saying. It must be a Wargame: European Escalation persons thing, to completely misunderstand my complaint. Meaning to me you are at the lower end of the gaming spectrum and do not advise me on anything unless you have been at the very top in EVE Online. You ain't, or you would not be telling me to find a single player game, when that was not my original complaint. Go away and advise others, but never me unless I ask you.

***** I was making suggestions and assumptions based on quite common complaints. If your only complaint is that the game has no tutorial, that is a weak argument as to how good a game actually is. This is especially the case, since the community has more than enough resources out there for anyone who wants to learn. Just because the developer's neglected this doesn't make the game bad. It is simply not the same thing. A lot of people who play the game often would tell you that mastering this game is one of the most satisfying feelings of any recent RTS. May I suggest, you do not make assumptions. Now I have said my bit, that does not mean some smart arse like you can "assume". Wargame: European Escalation is another Eugen French game abortion that is weak in many areas. Whether you like that comment or not, I don't give a pants. Your a completely different type of gamer to the people I know and I fear you would not last long in the likes of EVE Online, because of this assumption and smart arse mentality you have. You want a real PVP game that makes Wargame look like a Queen Anne T-Party for technicality and strategy, then you get your anal into EVE Online. The real gamers will show you how it's done their. Stop trying to give people advice who have not asked for your advice, will be my only advice to you.
