This box could be a real blessing for modelers trying to build an oriental themed band, they could pass for brigands/pirates, irregulars or others. With the right rifles these minis could be used in every historical period from late 18th century till early 20th. Only for TaiPing rebels one conversion is needed, making long hairs with GS, they refused the Quin's law that obliged all the males to have a pig tail, and flintlock muskets would be needed, or also bows or crossbows(!) extensively used not only by the rebels.

Really fascinating and under explored historical event. Also there is nothing better than models that make it easy to kitbash, maybe I want my medieval peasants to have ak-47s!

Sweet! Another nice kit from Wargames Atlantic. One way to get an East Asian look from Causasian flesh washes/paints is to add a little green. It knocks down the red and leaves you with a pale but not pink skin tone.

Huh! I wouldn't have thought of that, but I can see it working. Interesting tip I'll have to try out!

Wargames Soldiers and Strategy just reviewed a new Boxer Rebellion game called "Fighting the Dragon" so this is great timing!

A very interesting period I was so happy to see this kit. Thank you so much for doing this. Reading the Russian and Japanese forces fighting on the same side right before they will go to war (Russo-Japanese War) is one of those historical quirks that keeps me in my books, and historical painting. THANK YOU so much. Maybe a Tiger Warrior at some point down the line!?

It's a very 'maybe' as far as a video goes, but it's something I would like to do. Would certainly be different! 😂

Great video! A very good kit that I was thinking with a little conversion could be victorian Martians

Do explain your thought process here. At first glance, they have very little to do with Martians.

There is so much interesting history in China. The Taiping Rebellion is especially bonkers; almost 40k in its religious weirdness and immense loss of life. This looks to be a great sprue; ideal for adding some extra cultural diversity to fantasy and historical games. Thanks for the sprue review with the ideas about conversions. The finished mini looks great.

I've been finding it really interesting of late to come to the Communist Revolution via Bolt Action and all the reading I like to do for potential projects there, and to say that I wish we'd covered a little more Chinese history in school would be an understatement. Still, at least now I can study at my own leisure, right? 😅

I really enjoy your videos and the talent you're blessed with. Would your techniques differ for 1/35 scale figures? Have you painted any figures in that scale on the channel? I'm interested in World War II figures in that scale, but the videos I've seen seem a lot more laborious than your process without significant differences in appearance. Thank you again, and Merry Christmas.

Those look great! Cracking job on the skin tone, I always appreciate your insistence on people Not Being Yellow, and that Amber Skin really looks the business! Regarding the kitbashing, that Carcano you gave the first guy actually looks pretty much spot on for a Hanyang type 88, so with a box of Italians to cannibalise you could very easily make these guys into peasant levies all the way through to the Chinese Civil War IMO.

Looks really cool as always. I used one of your videos today for how to paint my Sherman tank from Konflikt 47. Thank you for your tutorials.

These are some very impressive figures and the sculpts look really nice. This very helpful as I learned how to use the Army Painter colors for highlights. I bought the Quick shade Medium and it helps thin down the soft and dark tone washes nicely. Thanks for sharing this.

Glad to hear the medium was useful! I'm always a little apprehensive about recommending stuff juuust on the off chance it doesn't work out for folks... 😅

These guys might do the job! They've got cleavers, proper swords, pitchforks and spears - there's bound to be something that'll work for the Tong.

I always wanted to make a guard army using these kind of minis - recently I had my eye on the Afghan warriors - and finding a bunch of lasguns & aquilas to attach. Maybe with 3d printing that will be easier.

@SonicSledgehammerStudio Жыл бұрын
Interestingly enough, Wargames Atlantic have also just released a bunch of STLs over on MyMiniFactory, including quite specifically 'modern Afghan' parts including AK-47s and such which are designed to fit on those plastic bodies. It wouldn't take a lot to tweak them to be lasguns, I imagine.

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio I also saw the spacenam box and I'm really interested. I don't think I have the patience or time for an army based game any more. Whatever I did would be a hobby project. No intention of actually playing.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio Жыл бұрын
It's worth pointing out that the historical and the sci-fi and fantasy ranges don't always fit perfectly together. The Spacenam stuff in particular is pretty big and chunky, more fitting 40k-sized figures. The historical ranges generally fit together pretty well, though.

Very useful figures, good review and lovely paint work. I will use a box to add some flavour to my Star Wars forces.
