Far better movie. And based on real events. Back in 1979 an attack simulation tape reel was accidentally mixed in with the recording reels and uploaded a training exercise to the active stations of NORAD. The US ended up about five minutes away from launching everything.

I feel lucky that as a child of the 80s and a young mother (my son is now 14) I got to grow up with these movies AND because my son loves ready player one he can appreciate our nostalgia without discounting it as horrendously uncool because all parents are lame. That's one 80s trope that I'm glad we left in the past.

Hopefully the film will never be remade, as there's no topping John Badham's original, and the film's underlying point of "The only winning move in Nuclear War is not to play" only needed to be pointed out once, and best fits the Cold War era setting of the film - and time it was made - anyway.

Just watched this today on TCM in Dubai. Hasn’t seen it since I was a kid. Still a great 89’s movie. It hits different on our current age of AI and it’s creation by eugenicists.

My old man used to work with those computers back at the 80s. Now I'm practicing with game development at the browser. You must be careful on what you're playing.

we are 90s kids , and have lots of wrong or ambiguous concepts about computers .. if we were from 60s .. then we were clear about each and everything about computer nitty gritties . now we direct starts from computer languages just to build different apps ,,,, 60s people really knows about what hacking is .

They did sound like that. Had a speech synthesizer for my TI 994A computer and that’s what it sounded like. Voice alert module in 80s Chrysler cars sounded like that too
