Always such a clean paint job but this one was specially good. I got my box delivered early and this was the first model I painted from it, need to change the colour of the cloak as the blue looks so good on this one.

You sir are such a great painter and I love your videos. Question for you or anyone willing to answer. Why paint in grey seer and not use the slapchop (black primer with grey and white drybrush)? Is the added effort to drybrush not worth the added effect or is it actually cleaner to do it this way with just grey primer?

@@NB-568 From my 'I'm learning to paint' perspective, plain Grey Seer is easier for me. If I go black primer with grey and white drybrushing, I have to worry about; how much grey? how much white? are my grey and white areas light enough? How do I make sure my drybrushing isn't chalky? Starting with straight grey seer will give me 'the same' starting point each time. My Ultramarine Blue over grey seer will be the same(ish) to Mr The Warhipster's Ultramarine Blue over grey seer, and not darker or lighter if I overdo or undercook the drybrushing step.

In my opinion the Slap Chop method is a lot of extra work to go to for very little reward and what you end up with is scratchy highlights which I personally don't like so for me I'd have to go in and correct it all. The other part of it is that you can get that prep stage horribly wrong if you're too heavy with either drybrush and what you then end up with is a patchy mess on the flat surfaces. FINALLY this one is a metallic based scheme so if you do a zenithal priming or a Slap chop or whatever thing like that. You're then going to cover most of the important details with an opaque metallic so that wipes out anything that the prep stage was trying to do. At which point you could say why not do a different scheme, but then you're doing a different scheme to cleave to priming technique not what you maybe wanted in the first place which you should never really do. Ultimately on here what you would get is black artefacts in the face, fire and slightly deeper recesses in the shoulder of the blue cloak. That's a lot of effort to go to for minimum benefit that you couldn't just do much quicker by using a bit of black templar in the recesses of the cloak and being done with it. I guess the Short version and my advice to anyone is that if you have a flat bright prime. You can always add more depth. What's much harder to do quickly and simply is restore brightness to depth you can't control. And if you end up having to make those corrections, you put a lot of effort in before painting only to see it as wasted time if you see what I mean?

Can I just quickly ask, if you were going to do blue flames for a more magical effect, which blue contrast paints would you recommend layering for that?

I would probably copy either the recipe I used for the Prosecutors wings or the Lord Vigilant’s axe depending on how brightly blue I wanted it to be
