In today's video, we are going to talk about the warm front and the cold front.
In order to understand in full this topic, we need to know what an air mass is.
The Airmasses are parcels of air that form the atmosphere. These Airmasses have different temperatures, humidity, and density characteristics.
When two masses of air with different characteristics meet a front is formed because these parcels of air don't really mix but one climbs on top of the other.
The name of the front is given by the air mass that is moving faster and catches up with the slower mass of air.
When a Warm mass of air reaches a colder mass of air the front will be warm. The warm mass of air (since less dense and lighter) will start to rise and slide on top of the denser and colder mass of air.
When a Cold mass of air reaches a warmer mass the name of the front will cold. Since the cold mass of air is heavier and denser it will go under the warm air mass pushing the latter upwards.
The weather phenomena and clouds types associated with these two fronts are different.
With a warm front, you have light rain and middle/high-level clouds.
With a cold front, you have vertical clouds and heavy precipitations.
The lengths of the fonts are different, the warm front can reach as much as 500nm while the cold front is generally half long.

Great mate! I have few questions 1. Do we have more warm fronts than cold fronts or the reverse or is it 50 50? 2.Which is more dangerous? 3.Does the pilot really need to care if he is flying over a cold of warm front? I mean the autopilot flies or not? 4. Do pilots always know in advance the types of fronts they will face aslo can fronts suddenly appear or change or is their behavior static in term of predectibility and characteristics...? 5.What decides the velocities of the warm or cold front? I mean once warm air can be faster other times not...? 6.Has covid improved or changed thr sky in terms of aviation weather since pollution decreased in a way...? 7. How does climate change affect aviation and the weather.. Sry many questions 😅👀 And love u mate...❣

Hey, thanks for watching! 1. The type of the depends on the local weather characteristics, so in some places, you have more cold fronts and in some other, you have more warm fronts, overall I don't know if we have more Cold or warm fronts. 2. The Cold front, because it could produce CB and thunderstorms. 3. If you have the vertical separation you don't care, however, if the front is along your route at your altitude then yes you need to take care. 4. Yes we know, there are charts that show you where they are, normally they don't change that fast. 5. The pressure systems, the winds, and the orography. 6. I'm not aware of any improvement. 7. Well, in some parts of Europe we have thunderstorms more often. I hope I answered your questions

Thanks for the informative video, does cold fronts and warm fronts occur every day? What if for example the speed of 2 air masses are the same?
@PILOTCLIMB
@PILOTCLIMB 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, great question!! It all depends on the weather and the location, usually you always have fronts somewhere!! If the airmasses have the same speed they won't form a front..

It could, because you might need to select the engine anti-ice when passing through the front.
