I kept thinking of the song from "The Aristocats" that declares: "Every truly cultured music student knows/ You must learn your scales and your arpeggios".

I love that song! And it is very true. You can always count on those classic Disney movies for wonderful advice :)

Hi Emily, this is super useful to m, I've been always struggling with proper warm-up. I would love to see the unabridged, full warm-up! Thanks so much for the effort

If I did that at home, I'd be homeless. You do it so well and with style. But you know my voice issues.
@emilyefinke Жыл бұрын
Each voice is unique and constantly changing thus requiring different things at different times. No one listening to "Rock-N-Roll Peggy" would ever guess there was the possibility of "voice issues."

Would these also work for other voice types like tenor, bass, alto, etc adjusted to their range? Or are these strictly only for the coloratura mezzo soprano voice type?
@emilyefinke3 жыл бұрын
Hi John! I am not a vocal coach, so I cannot speak with authority on this matter. That being said, I have heard my vocal coach use some of these exercises (the scale and warmup type exercises) with other voice types by simply adjusting for their range. I hope that helps!

Sorry if I shouldn't ask, but I am just curious why you changed from Soprano to Mezzo? Was it because it was more comfortable for you, or a health connected reason?
@emilyefinke4 жыл бұрын
Hi Diane! I am more than happy to answer your question. The short answer is that I had no control over my voice changing from a soprano to a mezzo. As our bodies continue to change as we age, so do our voices. Where most people's voices settle or "drop" in puberty, some do not make that shift until later. For women, our voices can continue to change well into our 30s even. There are several indicators that the voice presents in determining voice type, and I work with a vocal coach who noticed these things and was able to guide me through singing with this "new" voice. I actually made a couple of videos that go into all this in more detail. For my story with my voice change and an explanation of the differences between soprano and mezzo-soprano, you can check out these videos: Part 1: kzbin.info/www/bejne/larSfZmieLpraKM Part 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6XPg3uPqrSDiaM Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions! Have a blessed day 🙂

@@emilyefinke Thank you so much for explaining Emily. I know how voices can change. I seem to be the other way round to you. I was Mezzo and now sing soprano and have even been told I sing in the stratosphere! We are all different Emily, and it makes for a very interesting time in the world of song. It was good to read how your voice change happened, and thank you so much for the video links. I shall take a look as soon as I have some time - hopefully later today. You have a blessed day too.

@@dianeshepherdlyricsoprano1394 That is very interesting how your voice changed to a Soprano from a Mezzo! It certainly does make for an interesting time. It wouldn't be as fun if we were all the same 😉

@@emilyefinke Definitely agree with you Emily. And all three types of female voice (and male for that matter) are very important in their own rights. I have done some tests on singing notes on scales and it gave me a 2.8 octave. I was pretty pleased with that.
