Licensed necks from other places are cheaper but the quality isn't anything too special. Warmoth site is almost perfect when it comes to easily navigating and finding out what you want. Any confusion? Just ask them and they will help you out big time.

Shit I just recently built one with warmoth parts lol. Got lucky as hell. During the pandemic when it first started. This dude was selling a super rare custom warmoth neck. From 1997. Brazilian rosewood fret board with cocobolo shaft. 22 fret. mother of pearl. Gold locking tuners. I couldn't say no lol. The guy I bought it from recommended getting a warmoth body and having it painted by his boys at MJT. Took his advice. Put star wood stratocaster pick ups into it. It also has a F HOLE and a contour cut for higher fret ease. Yup... It's nothing but glorious... The kind of lightning in a bottle can't ever replicate kind of glorious...
@JohnBarrylizard3 жыл бұрын
@@soyborne.bornmadeandundone1342 sounds amazing! You got lucky getting Brazilian Rosewood from that era. I got some Indian Rosewood necks that literally smelled like deification. My brother and I must have built 50+ guitars in a 2 year period. He put a Warmoth guitar together which was better than my Custom Shop EJ Strat. In fact, any Custom Shop strat I've played. I don't know what pickups are in his Warmoth at the moment, but he's had custom shop 65's, texas specials, 57-62's, Gibson PAF, all kinds of stuff. He didn't put any kind of coating on the body. I tried to get him to put a light nitro, but no... and it's an amazing instrument. Plays and feels fantastic. Sounds rich and full. I have sold off many but still have way too many instruments and precious little time to play. All study and work... if I build another instrument it'll be after selling off more gear and that instrument would have to have full Warmoth parts.

Thanks for the updates, we all learn from mistakes, and it's better to learn from other people's trial and error than our own! The Mini-59 sounds perfect for the song, BTW. I have to say well done. your guitar is a real beauty. Double neck bodies don't have to be that massive. The first double neck I made didn't fit in any case. This was a lesson. The second double neck (6/12) was made smaller so I could fit it into an explorer case. I then proceeded to make a double neck bass that fit into 1275 case. (altering the case slightly.) Custom cases must be over $500? I would reverse engineer the body until it fit into the 1275 case. just shrink it.

Another excellent video! I've never had a double neck, but I did have a '60's Epi Wilshire 12 with mini-humbuckers. I really enjoyed that guitar and it sounded great with those pickups. The neck was a bit narrow at the nut, though, so it was pretty crowded for my fingers in the cowboy chord area. Thinking about getting another electric 12.

Before building a double neck, some questions: Should the longer neck be on the bottom, like the early Gibson double necks with the shorter mandolin neck up top and the longer guitar neck on the bottom? Or should the (longer) twelve string neck be closer to the player, since it’s generally more difficult to play than the six string neck? The desired right hand reverse lower neck sounds like a good idea. Also noticed the weight-relieving swimming pool pickup routes, and twelve saddle bridges would make it easier to properly intonate a twelve string. Some people have said they have had problems finding an octave g string long enough to fit earlier J Page type Gibson 1275’s and their Epiphone copies- with both those guitars the tailpieces are farther back than later Gibson reissues. Even though this a longer 25.5 scale length guitar, seems like this guitar it didn’t have as much a longitudinal string length-presumably not a problem finding a long enough string set for that octave g string?

Funny you should mention settling in of the guitar. For me on my last build letting a roasted maple fatback neck settle in after initial adjustment and setup was key. I still had to fret level the 18th to 22nd fret but the main contributor to success of the setup was letting the guitar settle in. People have to realize you are making a neck, then sending it to a customer without it ever being on a guitar under tension of a set of strings. Before people go hog wild with a major re-work can use a small brass fret-setting tool and check to make sure the frets are all still seated. Then make a incremental trust adjustments over a few days to where they want it to be with strings and tuned up. The neck I have is now at 0.25 mm/10 thou relief, nut and main action good, and intonation are all good. No string choking when I do string bends . The main contributor to the setup success......patience. Warmoth may send you a nice neck but the neck still thinks it’s a tree and will behave as such.
@warmoth3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. It takes a while for the neck and body to realize they aren't separate trees any more, and start resonating and working together.

Amazing guitar! Just wondering what pots are you running -- 500k or 250k? SD calls for 250k for the JB Jr and Lil 59, but (usually) 500k for regular humbuckers like the JB. The wiring diagram posted by Stratmania has 500k. That got me wondering what you've got for a pot combination? (I have multiple of both the JB Jr and Lil59 on 250k -- love them both. I have never tried them on 500k.)
@warmoth3 жыл бұрын
Yep, this is the exact reason I do not like guitars that mix hums and singles. I used 500k pots on this double neck, and was worried about the issue you raise. However, now that it's done I actually think the extra top end helps on the 12-string neck.
@Jydmd3 жыл бұрын
I compared the weight of locking vs non-locking cheap tuners to see if that would make a difference on my cheap partscaster with neck five issues. Locking tuners were 40g each, regular tuners were...38g. Not a big difference!

We have an instrument called "viola caipira" in Brazil, it's pretty much an acoustic guitar with 10 strings, 5 main and 5 harmony just like the 12 string, and there's a famous saying among people who play them: you spend half of your life tuning the viola caipira and the other half playing it out of tune. I guess this double neck of yours does not suffer from this problem, the intonation sounds like it's right on thanks to that bridge. Btw, it's about time Warmoth begins to settle with the idea of building a new guitar for the channel, we want to see more of that!

It's an obvious homage to the LP, which doesn't have a belly cut, so we just went with that. No plans to do one in the future, AFAIK. It would be cool though. For what I prefer, a 12 string guitar is about last on my priority list of G.A.S. gear. There are so many ways to set up a chorus to sound close enough to a 12 string, and getting used to a 12 seems like a lot of work when it's only used for specialty songs. All things being equal, and if I were in a position where money was no object, I'd get a white Gibson SG double neck, but it's spend a lot of time just hanging on the wall or in the case. Just MHO.
