It's really simple: Don't buy a car you can't afford. For example, I see a lot of young guys buying overpriced muscle cars they can't afford because they want to be "cool" and think they're impressing their friends. Stupid is what stupid does, and too bad for you. Some people, unfortunately, have to learn the hard way.

That’s good advice. But there is nothing more expensive than a shitbox money pit.

It might have started out OK but inflation just one of a few things is why loans don't look good anymore. Rather keep my old car and have food on the table.

The car payment on my 2000 Honda Accord isn’t too bad.

People are buying cars they cannot afford. Don’t buy a 50k car with no money down. I buy my cars expecting them to give me at least 12 years of use. Three cars in 33 years with 5 years left on the third car which I’m currently driving

If a car loan is part of your inability to save money toward your future then you can’t afford a car loan. Same with CC, if you can’t pay it off at the end of the month you’re buying crap you can’t afford. Same with mortgage, if you don’t have enough saved to cover routine maintenance you’re living in a home you can’t afford. Many of us are just spinning our wheels trying to find happiness with “things”. Then we find ourselves approaching retirement with no money set aside. People are going to have to get a grip on their own business and quit blaming our woes on government, immigrants or whatever the popular scapegoat is for votes. We’ve become too dependent on bailouts, from poverty level all the way up to the top 1%.
