It won’t mess your motor if that breaks the oil pump will over oil the motor so you won’t burn up your motor

I have the oil injection pump but decided to mix myself. Crimped the line coming out of oil reservoir with a zip tie. 300hrs later motor runs great. I never have to remove cowling and add oil either.

yeah, i ripped my oiler off and plugged the holes. i just mix my own in the tank now. no problems at all for last few years, but its an older 90s model yamaha 70. runs great!

Just bought a 2000 skeeter with a 99 yama 150 and that exact piece was cracked and just laying there. Hoping that didn’t damage anything for the amount of time it was ran like that. Compression came back stellar. Piece came in just to install that and new hot foot hope to be back on water soon.

This is true for all plastics used to control engines. The plastic deteriorates over time with being in the heat, and weather and could cause you issues. At least every year, check the condition of stuff like this visually will save you from being broken down in the water. Plastic nipples used for cooling lines also fail as well. Be careful before removing as you might break it.

A 308 Win cartridge case neck makes a nice sleeve on the oil pump ball joint for added security.

So is there a trick to resetting the adjustment? Surely it’s adjustable, or it wouldn’t be threaded with a stop nut. I just experienced this and caught it because of all the smoke after doing carb cleaning, and found your video looking for adjustment instructions. Part is arriving today and looking to get it taken care of. Great video by the way. I am experiencing way excessive smoke, due to the safety feature of running wide open oil rich mixture when this part fails. Luckily I caught it at home on the muffs.

Slide a puce of metal tube over the link make sure it fits tightly fixed mine.If the ink end is broken fill it with a good plastic glue or 2 pack resin then push the nurled end back in and squeeze with pliers then slide a tube over the end.

Thanks a lot. I recently got a pre-owned 50hp 2-stroke and had no idea these parts might break. Another issue is I need to operate in freezing temps a lot of the year. In order to pre-warm my motor I have a few silicone-enclosed electric heater pads which I intend to install to strategic locations such as outside of the oil well and the cylinder block, and next to the water pump and if possible any spots where cooling water might linger and freeze despite my intention to run the motor in tilted position a few secs to get the line dry before I shut down at the end of the ride. The pads are roughly 4 inches x 4 inches and I assume finding suitable surfaces where to glue them will be difficult. I'm not an expert so I thought you might be able to help me with suggestions where to try to put them. I've tried to find such solutions online but with no luck. Thanks.

FYI If the one to the oil pump/mixer cracks off or fails. It is designed at the factory to set itself to MAX oil mix. I have owned 4 of these 2 stroke motor from 115hp to 150hp, and all four have failed at some point. If you see heavy smoke at idle. Make sure to check these quickly, so not to carbon up the motor.

My father has given me his boat which has a 1998 Yamaha 115 2 stroke engine. I am going to attempt to perform basic maintenance work on it so I understand it. In this video you said that the rod connectors are fairly cheap so when they break you should just buy new ones. Where would you or I get a part like that from a motor that old?

if that oil pump arm connector breaks, it sounds like the oil pump was designed to then automatically start pumping at max volume (correct?)....if so... would you probably see excess smoke from the motor? Fan-F’n-tastic info bro. I had a 73 evinrude 15 hp on a 14 v-hull. My wife and I went out into trinity bay (Texas) and stopped to fish. When we wanted to move the motor wouldn’t start. Come to find out a plastic piece like that on the carb broke that worked the throttle linkage. I drove the boat all the way back to the dock facing the motor with my finger actuating the throttle on the carb. My wife would tap me on the shoulder with a net handle when I needed to turn.

Do you have a Yamaha OEM part number? BTW, the oil injection system fails wide open so the engine will not be destroyed but the plugs may foul.

I have a question about the CDI box, I have got the carbs fully serviced and a full tune up. The tech said the CDI box is bad. The boat starts, idles and runs. At full throttle the engine bogs down and it's hard to get to plane. It's a needle in a hay stack to find a new CDI box. Thatboatguy I need your help! 03 50hp 2stroke Yamaha

If that oil injection one fails it fails in the open position resulting g in 50 to 1 mix. When that specific rod works it cuts the oil down to 100 to 1 during idle. You motor will not fail if that rod breaks.

@@jrgen6599 No it won't. The pump "throttle" is spring loaded and if it looses connection with the linkage it will spring into the wide open position regardless of where the throttle was when it broke.

Jeremy Thorsen This is correct. If it does break, it is spring loaded to full open. Motor will consume a lot of oil, smoke excessively and idle rough. It’s spring loaded to full open as a fail safe to protect from major internal engine damage if the linkage fails.

Not going to blow up the motor if the oil pump one brakes. It is designed to go to open to max oil injection it the plastic piece brakes. But YES it will cause damage to the motor if run that easy for a prolonged period of time. And will make it run very rough at idle, and lots of smoke.

I'm having a issue with an alarm going off on my 2001 90 Yamaha. Alarm goes off then engine back off the RPM's to around 200. Oil level is good. I can't find any videos on how to check/change/clean replace the oil reserve. Can you help?

Yamahas were set sprung fully open on the oil pump, so if the linkage broke or not connected they would feed the engine with full oil mix.to avoid engine damage

Yes but not all work properly. Most of the time the spring does not work. I have 5 40's and 50hp motors that do not move anywhere when the linkage is disconnect including my 60hp Yamaha. The 90hp yamaha spring on the oil pump was the only one that worked.

@@ThatBoatGuy If the oil sensor works then a low oil signal will make alarm go off and throw it into a guardian or limp mode. Won't let you go past 2,000 rpm's in order to protect from overheating. Good video though and definitely a useful tip making sure those clips are not cracked.

I'm having an issue and can't find a manual for my book about timing it's a 1989-90 HP etlf all the manual companies keep sending me a 1988 90 HP ETF manual and the linkage measurements arent the same I went to do a link and sync and followed the manual and I went from a to b and when I got to c link which is the top link next to the flywheel and stator it said to make it 74 mm and there's not 74 mm of linkage there it will barely go to 64 mm. So now I know this is not the right manual and when you look it up on Google every and any website is offering this manual for my 90 etlf made in 1989 and this book is not the correct one. I now have my linkages all messed up can't find an idle speed or full throttle speed because this book can't be the right book so I'm afraid to follow that. And I can't go off of linkage measurements because I've already seen this book is not the one being that c link doesn't even go as long as the service manual calls for. I know this is an unmolested engine so the linkage is not something different or has been replaced please help me I can post a video on my page showing you everything so you can just comment and react or I can video chat with you on whatever platform you desire or we can start out over email I'm trying to get this finished before 4th of July my family would love to see the fireworks on Hartwell lake and I don't want to mess my engine up running it with the idle speed and the full throttle speed all jacked up and neither of the stoppers in the right place. I see that you're most inclined on this era Yamaha outboards then anybody on KZbin or the entire internet so I figured you knew exactly what idle degree and full throttle degree settings that I should set it with my timing light so I wouldn't have to worry about measuring linkages or if you knew where to get the right manual or if you just knew right off the top of your head exactly what I needed to do. Or maybe you even have one sitting in your garage or driveway knowing you you probably do. I love your videos please help me out I need to at least get the boat on the water before the summer ends if not then before 4th of July it runs like a top it just had a rough idle so that's why I was doing a link and sink and I wanted to make sure that my carburetors were opening at full throttle with my full advance linkage on the timing side of things and that's the reason why I was messing with all of this other than that she runs like a dream but I'm not sure now that I've done messed up all the linkages again please help thanks man!
