Hi Niko, I've been using CPAP since 2011 though I was diagnosed (AHI - 23) in 2005 (refused to get a machine as i felt well and functioned normally). First machine (9 years) was a Respironics System One with nasal overhead mask; pressure of 12.5 -14. Then bought an Aire10 For Her on APAP most of 3.5 years (pressure of 13/6). It seems to me that 13:06 the Aire10 I used for almost 4 years in Auto mode may have an issue for some users: I noticed that when i have the mask off but the machine is running, it sends a pulsed stream of air into the mask. By this, I mean the air coming out of the machine is pulsed (stachatto waveform). I have been waking up with a vibration in my chest which I was convinced was aFib and spiralled into severe panic attacks requiring hospitalization. I think anyone experiencing this would react in a similar way: the Cardiologists I saw could not see anything wrong with my heart even though I did all the tests (Echo; many Holters; Treadmill) ane said I had anxiety. My doctor put me on antidepressants to help me sleep and sent me to the psychiatrist. This has happened to me before (in 2006); but the palpitations were different. I don't think it is surprising that any doctor will be unable to tell the difference between a palpitation or something similar induced by a CPAP device; and a palpitation that is naturally induced. I can clearly feel the "wobble" induced in my lungs (most likely; or the Pulmonary vein and it's connection to my heart), through the mask: the mask is probably vibrating (due to the pulsing of the air into the mask to detect apneas or Hypopneas). Have you had any experience with this? Is it possible for a PAP device to induce "flutter" or "palpitations"? My AHI on the Aire10 is often less than 1 and that is on a pressure of 6.8 straight CPAP. Any help you can give would be so much appreciated! My sleep doctors do not know how to help me. The reason I am concerned is because every time I get the "palpitations" my blood pressure can go as high as 180/110. In 2006 I was prescribed 120 mg Propranolol for the "palpitations". Back then, I had no PAP therapy and had no idea what could be inducing my palpitations; the beta blocker worked wonders; but it does not address severe allergies which are part of my problem with nasal breathing; and it has now given me Bradycardia or long standing (HR usually less than 50 when sleeping and often below 60 during the day). Please can you help with my question.

@@TrueLoveNetwork I wonder if a Vcom would help with this? It's not necessarily good for anything else but it might reduced the "wobble" you feel. Not a doctor ;)

The APAP machine setup, symptoms described and breathing patterns look very similar to what I experienced for a few years until around 9 months ago when a sleep doctor had me change from APAP to fixed CPAP. What a difference. My very regular CSR and CA clusters virtually disappeared. I was amazed. I really didn't think this change would do anything. Rather, before this change to fixed CPAP, I was sure I needed an ASV machine. I still don't sleep more than 4 consecutive hours most nights, which is a separate issue, but the CSR and CA clusters are gone.

I struggled to find a sleep doctor who was able to diagnose my Central Apnea. I provided Sleep HQ charts to two doctors and they had no clue what I was showing them. Quite sad. Found a doctor who understood Central Apnea and ordered a sleep study with an ASV device and have been so much better since then.

I had a similar problem as a pensioner I’m finding cpap therapy is costing too much , replacing parts etc I have several central apneas a night I’ve tried adjusting EPR and pressure settings to no avail even used the cpap setting! My specialist said if I was feeling ok central apneas don’t matter??

I'm facing a similar issue in Canada. Wait times for public health level 1 sleep studies are lengthy, and private clinics are costly. I recently attempted a level 1 sleep study but couldn't fall asleep. I've suspected central sleep apnea for years, and struggle with my CPAP (Airsense 10). I've signed up with SleepHQ. Last night, I experienced 8 clear airway events before waking up. Nearly 3 hours of insomnia followed. Some clear airway events lasted over 30 seconds. Several clear airway events occurred consecutively and lasted over a minute when combined. My AHI donut is primarily Clear Airway and Hypopnea. Considering these issues, should I retry the level 1 sleep study? Are there any quality sleep study clinics in North/Central America? The clinic I visited had low-quality beds and was $700 CAD for the night. Looking to upgrade from the Airsense 10 to a Lowenstein Bipap or ASV.

I wish resmed wouldn't hold that asv software hostage like they do. Anyone with a resmed airsense 11 should be able to download the asv firmware but they make it so difficult.

Nick..love watching your videos. Have something counterintuitive happening to me. Been on cpap since 2008 but noticing in last few years (via Fitbit sleep monitoring) that I don’t get as well rested using cpap as I do without the mask. Sleeping HR about 53 on machine vs 47 without mask but of course I snore about 25% of time without mask. I also cannot get REM sleep with mask but get good amounts without. What is going on? My sleep doctor has offered no explanation. Hoping someone on this board or yourself might have some insights. Thank you. H. Toronto, Canada

I had to practically have a screaming fit to get treatment and an ASV machine and even with it I can get periodic breathing which the machine may or may not correct but most of the time now the problem is either higher pressures, chin tucking, or supine sleeping. Also ResMed masks and or head strap peter out in a shorter time than I can get replacements. You have to control leaks to 0.0 really to avoid trouble with an ASV.

I mainly have central apneas and regularly see CSR patterns in my sleep data. My doctor wouldn't even discuss ASV with me. It was a crap sleep clinic, now out if business so maybe my next doctor will be better. Unfortunately, i need to wait another 18 months before a new sleep study will be covered by my insurance. Until then, im just using my AS11 in fixed CPAP mode and doing OK, but i think ASV would be better.

Hi, your info is amazing!! What is "rain-out?" I've had my Auto DevilBis cpap machine for 10 years. I cannot find any accessories for it? Could you advise?
@RickN13
@RickN13 Ай бұрын
A rainout is when you have condensation build up in your hose from the humidity being set too high and the tube temp being too low. Eventually it will pool up at the hose's lowest point and you feel like you're breathing through a snorkel with water in it.

@justincouch2670 Welcome to the world of better sleep! DO NOT quit during the first 90 days!!!! DO NOT sleep poorly with the first 3 or 4 masks/nose hoses they give you. DO NOT ass-u-me one sleep study and the first 4 or 5 pressure adjustments are the correct settings for you!!! It took 5 machine adjustments, 6 different masks and an excellent caring doctor and super helpful DME provider staff to get my system tuned to me.

As a recently retired MD I was shocked to learn in October’23 that I have severe OSA. My learning has been through You Tube; my clinic is just not that helpful. My journey may not be yours, but what I found is that my facial structure and previous facial hair didn’t work with any full-face mask. In June I discovered mouth tape, trimmed back my beard and mustache and went on a nasal mask (Resmed AirFit N20). My leakage is now much lower and sleep score is 99-100 most nights. Without tape I can’t keep my mouth shut during sleep, so that’s been a game changer for me. Good luck!

@CPAPReviews

Hey brother, I wouldn't worry too much about a few minutes of CSR. However, if you're experiencing it for more than 30 minutes regularly, it could disrupt your sleep / health. In that case, it might be worth speaking with a professional. Cheers

Does it show the level pressure is? Or records it. What presser is it supposed to be on? Or how high it should be? Whats to high? I just started with the cpap machine the air sern 11 cpap machine. Second night using it. During the night. I had a headache feeling in my head. A nausea feeling, a lack of oxygen feeling in my brain, a mild headache, slight sore throat. My pressure on the cpap machine screen was a 8.7 when I woke up this morning. It was at 4.0 when I went to bed. Is that normal? Or not? I don't know what I am doing. I don't feel right today.

Your nose is being pushed so far back into your head there is no way your air passage threw your nose is clear. Thus is the problem I'm having with the nose mask. hi I got a question, I use the cpap nasal mask and I have frequent problems breathing through my nose, its usually clogged on one side when I get sick both , but because of low finances I haven't been able to get a full face mask. What do you suggest on that? I have that problem where I have to clear the stuff from the back of my throat forever every single day of my life and I'm 41 this year.
