I have been a Lead Pastor for a little less than a year and I have been drowning in information. I listen to endless podcasts and sermons, and how to videos, I’m constantly on cohort calls, or video meetings and I have been so beat up by my phone. This is a breath of fresh air and I feel this will really help me to slow down and temper expectations and grow deeper as a leader in a healthier environment. Thank you!

Carey, first I love the wide range of voices that you give an opportunity to speak on topics that we normally only hear one side of. Prior to this video my favorite was either Andy Stanley where we were able to see purpose and meaning behind the guy that is commonly mischaracterized on social media, or going back in time David Platt talking about how he led his church through covid and the black lives matter movements. This one though, has been sitting with me for a week now, and immediate conversations that this has raised within our leadership team between myself (the youth pastor) and our lead pastor, between my wife and I, and between our pre teen daughter. We have had longer dinners since, with less devices, and more purposeful conversations about the things that matter and letting all those others take up less space in our minds and hearts. Thank you.

Carey never ceases to amaze me! His interviews are respectful and educational! The information he shares are life skills (not just work skills)! So take a listen even if you’re not in leadership & you will learn & hopefully be open to new ideas & growth!

This has been a growing concern in my own life as well as what I see in my kids lives. Thanks for the reminder of being present and engaged in the things that are most important.

How cool when he talked about the importance of taking the time to slow down and eat together. I had an Amish guy once tell me that if you leave a meal with them and you are hungry it is your fault! Such awesome stuff - thanks for reminding us to be present!

Enjoyed the discussion about noticing dew on the boots and learning how to trust without guarantees as they worked hay around the rainy weather!

I think the most challenging thing for me is that absolutely none of this was surprising-and yet it’s still an issue for so many people (myself included).

I resonate with that, Shannon.

The difference in the brain scans was interesting, especially the improvement in cognitive memory. For a while, I have been struggling with my usage of technology and the negative impact it has had on my life. The struggle is to make the necessary changes to bring improvement to my life. This conversation was insightful and has reinforced what I have been thinking - phones and technology have had a more negative impact on my life. Something needs to change.

Detox symptoms from a phone? In the words of Robert Palmer's old rock song: your heart sweats, your body aches. Your addicted to love (or is it the phone)?!
