@Dubbin1 That’s a bit harsh don’t ya think ? Gavin has reviewed just about every press on the market for us reloading enthusiasts from the cheapest to the most expensive , and why wouldn’t he ? Gavin well understands that many reloaders have a limited budget and can’t or don’t want to spend more than a couple of hundred dollars on a press . On the other hand there are many reloaders out there that can afford to buy the more expensive reloading presses on the market, that’s why he reviews them . It’s good to see you are watching Gavintoobe, you must find it interesting or you wouldn’t be watching it . I bet that you are subscribed to this channel 😀.

Well, tomorrow is delivery date for my RL 1100! Excited, you bet. I've been using a RL 550 since late 1986. Notice, no A, B, or C. It was a original 550. Bought it for 38 SPCL. Added 9 MM, 380 Auto and of course 45 ACP later. I don't know how many cartridges it has reloaded. But, I hope it's new home will appreciate it as much as I did. Your videos helped me get ready to set it up tomorrow, thanks. Adding the bullet feeder may come later if my hands fail me any more, bummer. I do plan on using the Dillon powder check system for now. This has become my main press, with the XL650 relegated to odd types that I only make in small batches.

I'm running two of these, near identical setups, one manually for .45ACP and one for .308 on a Mk.7 Autodrive. I also have a Mk.7 Revolution series for .223, another for 9mm, and another for .40S&W. With an "Autodrive" the RL-1100 is nearly as good as the Mk.7 revolutions (and was easy to install). The only really noticeable difference at that point is the additional tool head space for more dies on the Revolutions. Both Dillon and Mk.7 make some great systems. The only downside is this entire industry is a nightmare on orders and delivery. Everything is late on delivery. Most of the OEM's of consumables aren't even taking on large orders for the time being. Had a powder mfg. give us a quote for a couple kegs of powder only to then tell us when we sent the PO that they weren't accepting actual orders for the next year. Both a major European and Russian primer maker quote large orders and when we sent the order in were contacted shortly after saying the lead time on the order that size was 10 - 20 MONTHS ARO. The shortage is real folks... I can find projectiles and brass out the ears. But Primer and Powder are mostly non-existent at the OEM level.

I have 3 sq deal presses, a 550, a xl650, a lee classic turret, a rockchucker, a lyman turret, a frankfurt single stage and a Lee challenger. I am about ready to shoot for a RL 1100 to load 9 mm and 38's as they are the calibers that I shoot most. I also load for .30 carbine, 223, 30-06, 6.5x55, 327 Mag, 41 Mag, .44 Special, 45 ACP, 45 Colt and 50-90 Sharps. Due to a recent move the majority of my reloading gear is in storage and not handy. I have been forced to load my 9 MM's on a Rockchucker. I sprang for a lee bench primer tool and I love it. I also obtained a Lyman powder dispenser, a electronic scale, some loading blocks, 500 135 gr bullets, 8 lbs of titegroup powder and 1K of 9 MM cases. What a tedious job it was to assemble 9 mm rounds with the foregoing minimal equipment. I put together 135 gr bullets with a charge of 5.0 gr of titegroup. Great loading for a 115 gr bullet but way too much for a 135 gr bullet. So now I have to break down about 150 dangerously overcharge rounds so all my work was wasted. I reached out to Hoosier bullets and purchased 5 lbs of 124 gr lead polyomer coated bullets and I will load them with 4.0 gr of titegroup. When I get around to it I will load the 135 gr bullets with 3.5 gr of powder. I have the Lyman turret press here and I intend to use it to make my job a mite less tedious. Somehow to justify spending two grand or more on a RL 1100 I would really need. a great reason to do so. I am still looking for that as the xl650 and the 550 can easily produce 9's and 38's in the quantities I require and a at a much reduced price. Either way I enjoyed your videos on the rl 1100 and I do however lust for the expensive press but I cannot spend that much a whim without a solid reason to tie up that much capital.

I’m basically running this exact setup except with the Hornady AP press. Added a roller handle to the setup as well for increased speed/comfort. Runs like a top. Though I do really want to also get the RL1100 as a secondary press to run my 5.56 and 7.62 through. I like the RL1100 setup with the dies coming down, rather than the rounds coming up to meet the dies, cause at really high speeds, there’s a wobble to the whole setup that occasionally will drop a bullet after bulletfeeder station on the way up to seat/crimp. That only happens if I really get cranking on the press, but those are the speeds I’m after for rifle rounds, as I go through more of those generally. I would definitely consider adding a motor to the RL1100, though maybe wire to the powder check station to stop if the sensor goes off. I think this press would marry really well with a motorized crank. Then you can just set and forget reload, while just adding components.

Pretty cool setup for the volume shooter. I did notice that you did a great job of editing in that you were just about to have the primer checker go off and then all of a sudden it was raised to the full position. That's the biggest slowdown in the process especially if you use the individual primer pick-up tubes. I found that using a Franklin Arsenal electric primer flipper that I could dump the primers in and flip them and then pull the clip on the bottom of the tube over the primer feeder and really smooth things out.

31 rounds per minute. you can crank out 1860 rounds in 1 hour if you dont have to stop to refill anything or run into any issues. that is super impressive. spend 1 hour cranking out let's say 1800 rounds, 1 hour on final measure of 1800 to make sure weight and size are consistent (maybe I'm the only one who is that concerned about this). and that wasnt even rushing it, that was a modest speed.

How many times you had powder charging issues I wonder. I have been reloading 20+ years with progressive presses and had 5 rounds without a powder charge 12 years ago; when I ran out of gun powder in the powder measure. I now have a buzzer to let me know when I get close to the bottom since then...

@@aakoksal I started my reloading career in 1992 with an XL650. This was also the first year they were offered! FWIW, I have never had an over-charge or squib. But with the XL650's clockwise rotation, it's easy to eyeball the powder drop before placing a bullet. I now use an RL1100 with MBF, and since it's very awkward to "eyeball" the powder drop before bullet placement, the Endoscope gives me a direct view of the powder drop without having to adjust my view. And with the MBF, there's not an extra station that offers a "buzzer" to get my attention. Your running a powder measure buzzer? How ironic! 👍

Incredible amount of very cool gear in your shop. I’d be happy just finding powder and primers for normal prices. People are selling primers for ridiculous prices. I know I know law of supply and demand. That law stinks! Doesn’t somebody make a foot pedal that replaces the reloading arm. I think a buddy of mine has one on his 1050 which is setup similar to your 1100. I seem to recall he turns on a switch and its fully automated or steps on the pedal. Wish I had an 1100. Running two 550B’s one with a case feeder dedicated to 9mm Major. Also RCBS RockChucker for rifle.

Just got to 4:50 if you want to see the bullet feeder... I'm running a 1050 with Mr. Bullet. ;-). It's an ammo factory. 👍😎

Fun, Fun, Fun! That is one slick set-up! All you need now is to fab up an adapter so you can add a speed-adjustable electric-motor to the hand crank shaft, for truly automatic action!

I really want to run this exact setup. What was the overall cost?

@Reel-Lentless You can make your money back after shooting one magazine lol

You need to fabricate some sort of linkage to shorten the through on the loading handle!😜

Did you have Star Line modify your powder funnel to avoid sticking with new 9mm brass cases? Mine stuck and Star Line fixed the dropper funnel for free.

starline makes a dropper funnel for their brass? Mine get stuck all the time and I hate it.

Would prefer separating crimp from bullet seat, it does make a difference to accuracy.

You don't need a powder check. I have a 1050 that is fully automated and don't run a powder check. I the machine comes to a halt you manually check all the cases. Cause when it doesn't stop all cases will have powder.

I am wanting to upgrade from my lee loadmaster to a dillon RL1100 or a mark 7 apex 10. So my question is since they are similar money which of them would you recommend? And eventually I want to automate the process to load more
