I have wrestled for almost my entire life. I love history and especially the history of wrestling. Like 15 years ago I was reading about the best kushti wrestler ever from India, The Great Gama, he did a ton of Hindu pushups, deep knee bends (a different variation of squats) in addition to using traditional wrestler exercises like mace swinging. I saw they made them from a large branch, concrete and a clay pot. I made one out of a old small basketball and a shovel handle and it works fucking awesome. Been using it ever since. Awesome for grip, core strength and even striking. Now they are bring made out of steel and look really cool. I like how you do non traditional training and think outside the box.

@JarnoPeschier4 жыл бұрын
Good tips. Found most of those out myself when starting to do these. It's basically physics. Don't focus on the size and location of the weight, but on the flow of the movement and the control. Let the mass work for you, not against you.
@jogindertanikella2 жыл бұрын
Yes. If we focus on the flow and the control, we can actually feel and then, understand which muscles are working.

That's a nice mace. The whole mace exercise thing originated in India and they've been doing this for centuries but they use a mace made from iron. It's pretty effective for strengthing grip, shoulders, rotator cuffs, forearms.

LOL, I found a 36" industrial tent spike on the sidewalk. First i thought, this is dangerous; then I realized, this is serious. It weighs 8lbs. I took it cuz I knew I could use it in some fitness form. I started trying Kali like drills, and had fun but needed more. Then I found about steel maces and those Persian thingys and was able to learn better movements. Now, i was able to fit a 5lbs plate on the end (so, 13lbs total) and WOW!

15 pounds is no joke after swinging it around for 45 mins to an hour. You definitely feel it, even if you're a gym rat. I'm about to move up to 20 or 25 pounds, and I'm sure it's going to be a challenge for at least a year of regular use. It makes for a great workout, especially if you integrate other exercises like lunges, squats, pull ups and push ups for a good hour.
@REZlostboyz2 жыл бұрын
Glad I went with a 15lb one first haha. Initially, I was thinking 25lb should be a good start lol! But I ended up looking it up to be sure. And I was like damn, better start safe lol

@tesladiesel24205 ай бұрын
I agree about the weight. 15lbs feels like 50 for sure. That being said, using too light of a mace will cause me to “muscle” the movement and doesn’t look or feel smooth. Bottom line, this is a lot harder than it looks… 😳 thanks for sharing and the great angles of the demo..!! Edit: Sub’d

I been wanting to get in to this type of training for hema and kenjitsu It's A lot of weapons use so training like this might make weapons feel A little bit lighter sword like feel heavy sometimes axed and of course maces can feel heavy this I think could feel
@shorinryu97135 жыл бұрын
hi James with the bands v weights; traditionally with weights you would refer to progression based on "weight amount". With bands, is progression based on just the feel of resistance? e.g you use a thick green band, is that equivalent to a 30kg dumbbell or it's a different mindset?
@JamesGrage5 жыл бұрын
Shorin Ryu you’re exactly spot-on. This is a video that I want to get up in the next few weeks, discussing this exact topic.

@JamesGrage5 жыл бұрын
Nordic Soldier LOL. Yeah we’ll blame it on the music. It’s a good workout though. Careful swinging that axe around your back - don’t want to chop yourself in the ass.

What's the advantage to wearing a backpack when working out?
@richarddamzen84733 жыл бұрын
You can take sandwiches with you. I guess masks and hand sanitizer too. You could literally put anything you like like a bluetooth speaker or anything else you might want during a workout even protein power if you like. You could ask the community what are the disadvantages if you like also.

What times of handle grips will work for the resistance bands to use
@JamesGrage5 жыл бұрын
greenranger2482 hey my friend. I don’t like using handles with bands as I prefer to grab the band directly, as it allows me to adjust my grip position on the band to either shorten or lengthen it, in order to adjust the resistance level (linear variable resistance).

davidson2004fatboy when I first started looking at mace training that was the first thing I thought of as well, but I learned that it’s not quite the same. You can do it with a sledgehammer but it’s going to have a different feel, mainly because the handle on a sledgehammer is much shorter.

Indian club swinging were used as practice for 1100 yrs as mobility for sword swinging. Also stopped country take over by Islam.
