Anne Boleyn was the 2nd wife of King Henry VIII of England in the 1500's. She was the younger sister of Mary Boleyn, Henry's Mistress. Anne Boleyn was known for having King Henry VIII break the Church of England from the authority of the Pope to get rid of Catherine of Aragon and marry Anne.

Anne Boleyn’s portrait at Hever Castle of her holding the rose is her true likeness IMO. Her beauty stems from her exotic look. Her dark hair and hypnotic black eyes. She was highly intelligent and carried herself with great self esteem. Those traits made her beautiful.

No, it isn't. Nearly every single painting of her was destroyed at Henry's command as were her birth records which is why no one knows exactly when she was born or how old she was when she died. After Henry VIII's death artists began the task of trying to recreate her image as Anne did have many admirers and those who loved her very much. The closets portrait that is left in existance of her was inside of a locket she gave to Henry that even after her death he kept in his desk drawer. It was willed to Queen Elizabeth I upon her fathers death. She had it made into a ring she wore all her life. It was the only image she possessed of her mother.The portraits that hang in Hever as well as the Museums were painted postumously.

I think she was probably very elegant, and attractive, but wasn't a beauty of the time. It was to be an innocent looking, golden haired pale English rose. Catherine of Aragon, in her youth before her many pregnancies, was by all accounts, considered delightful. And Henry's younger sister Mary, was a celebrated beauty the French loved her. Anne's hair, was probably auburn brown, with a tinge of red instead of dark brown.

I've studied Anne Boleyn extensively. The general consensus was that she had deep, sensual eyes and was brilliant -- smart and funny. No contemporary writers are very clear about what was so hypnotic and enthralling about her. She just had that "certain spark" that drew people to her. I'm not surprised they accused her of witchcraft. By all accounts, she was quite enchanting.

It's fascinating how Anne Boleyn is always seen as a temptress, and we assume that she learnt the "arts of love" when she lived at the French Court of Queen Claude. In fact, Queen Claude was a byword for strict morals and Anne certainly wouldn't have learnt anything from her. Also, Anne's only possession that is still in existence is her gorgeous prayer book. It's truly a work of sumptuous beauty and is entirely hand engraved with lovely tiny paintings. In it Anne wrote 'le temp viendra Je Anne Boleyn" which translates as "The time will come, I Anne Boleyn." This was rather enigmatic too, did she mean that the day of judgement would come? People did believe in that then, as they do now. Or, was Anne referring to more wordly matters, and saying that her day would come? I think it was a bit of both. What about you guys???

I think she might have been in love with someone or maybe seeing others around her bring married off to this lord or that lord and praying that her day would come that, she too would be matched to someone suitable and then it would finally happen for 'I, Anne Boleyn' Maybe telling herself or praying to herself that, patience is a virtue. Or maybe it was her praying for patience and not despair as she had miscarriages and stillbirths and a daughter. But not the son that was expected from her. I bet she spent hrs. furtively praying. Because knowing her story, I would be stressing the f out.

You might think that picture is beautiful, but it wasn’t even painted when Anne was alive. we don’t really know how she looked. We have one contemporary image of Anne - a medal. That’s it. It’s kinda sad to me honestly that people are so obsessed with her being beautiful. Based on the medal she likely wasn’t, and was simply regular in terms of looks, but everyone seems so determined that she has to be pretty, and are constantly trying to argue it. Why is it such a negative thing is she wasn’t? But we’ll simply never know. Unless another portrait is confirmed to be her it’s all just conjecture

@@ethelgallagher107 To be honest, to me she didn't. During their earlier "relationship", Anne quit her job and moved away from Henry, and then told him that she wouldn't be his mistress. She said no in a hundred different ways and he insisted he wanted her. Back then, it was unthinkable to think he would ever divorce his wife to be with her, so when she said she would only lay with him if they got married, it was a swift way of saying "it's never gonna happen." She wasn't playing hard to get, she was trying to run away. And then she resigned because Henry was obsessed with her and wouldn't let her go. Anne knew what would happen if she let him seduce her - look at Mary Boleyn! She was her sister! Jane Seymour, on the other hand, knew that saying no was the right way to entice Henry and clearly did it on purpose.

Elizabeth only really became “ugly” after she got small pox and her face was left scarred. She tried to cover it up with white makeup and red lipstick but that made it worse because the makeup contained lead and the lipstick mercury. It also caused all her hair to fall out so she wore wigs. She also became fond of sugar after it was brought to court which caused her teeth to rot and go black.

Why would the different in blood type affect her subsequent pregnancies?
@andreagallegosdei
@andreagallegosdei 2 жыл бұрын
@@SmoothCode Because this would cause the baby to likely be a different blood type from hers, and having her body become sensitized to the mismatching blood´s antigens (aka Elizabeth´s blood) the first pregnancy wouldn't be a problem, but rather the following ones because the mix in blood types and antigens would cause Anne's blood to reject the fetus and cause a miscarriage (of course when this theory is correct, then it would most likely be the cause). This happens in our time too, now thankfully there is a medication called RhoGAM which prevents this sensitization in the mother's body.

Croe Sus: when mom is negative and dad is positive, if the baby is positive the mom's body will start building antibodies against the "foreign" substance. Usually this won't affect the first baby, but if future babies continue to be positive, more and more antibodies are in mom's system attacking the "foreigner"....the babies if born may need transfusions or a lot of other problems. Back then of course they couldn't transfuse or whatever else the baby might have needed. I am a 2nd "baby" of neg/pos parents, born in the '50's. And I was told they were ready to do a transfusion asap when I was born....however, I'm negative too! And luckily my babies were both negative so I never had issues.

Elizabeth was but a small child at the time of her mother's execution, and anyone else still alive would have been recalling someone's visage from _decades_ past, and probably an idealized version at that. The best we can say is that we know of her general appearance but not the details, and it's the details that make people unique and identifiable. This video is only good in bringing to life the posthumous representations of Anne's portrayals. Whether they're accurate we'll never know until a lost contemporary portrait is found. Surviving descriptions of Anne from people who saw her in real life all mention how notable and striking her eyes were- being "black and beautiful" and how she "knew how to use them" to hold power over men, intentionally or not. Interestingly Elizabeth 1st inherited these very dark eyes from her mother alongside red hair from her father, seen in all her portraits. Other contemporaries of Anne's said that although she was "reasonably good looking" she exceeded all others in style, manner, behaviour and eloquence. One account describes her as "bewitching." It should be noted that Anne did not fit the beauty standard of the time, which was blonde, fair skinned and buxom. Her sister Mary Boleyn did fit this description and was therefore regarded as the "beauty of the family." Overall we can strongly theorise from descriptions that Anne was slender, dark eyed, had a long oval face with high cheekbones and a strong nose. Her hair was likely dark and very long. Although she was not a great beauty (certainly by the standards of the time) she was charming, witty, sophisticated, stylish, charismatic and extremely magnetic, with captivating eyes. She was a natural trend setter and had a quick, sharp tongue. This was the woman who so captured the obsession of the King of England.

Newer, more scholarly biographies of Anne Boleyn are enlightening. Possibly, even probably, Anne Boleyn was as intelligent as Henry VIII and seemingly held few reservations in being frank and outspoken. It would seem in many ways Anne Boleyn was the opposite from Catherine of Aragon's demure and submissive behaviors. Anne's personality may have intrigued and fascinated Henry VIII--said to perform little of the governing. I wonder if Anne Boleyn has not fallen afoul of Thomas Cromwell if she could have survived. Anne was between 26 and 32 when they got married. Not old, but certainly not in the peak of youth by those standards, when women were considered in their ‘prime marriage age’ between about 16 and 21. Considering these factors, I really don’t think her looks were the main draw for Henry. I think her mind was truly extraordinary and that she was captivating in her wit and the way she carried herself. There was something special about Anne that went far beyond the physical.

@@reassimilate668 People at the time who liked Anne said she was pretty, people who didn’t said she was ugly. We’ll never know the truth of her looks for sure. Based on the one surviving contemporary image of Anne we have - the ‘most happy’ medal - she doesn’t seem remarkable in looks either way. just regular I guess? she looks a lot like Elizabeth I imo

What I find interesting is that by the standards of her time, Anne Boleyn was no spring chicken by the time she married Henry. She was by some estimates 31-32. Not at all old by today's standards, but I think that was a bit past her prime in 16th century England. Granted, Henry was courting her a full 7 years, but still, she would have be considered well pass her first flush of youth.
@isidroguevara4741

There's speculation about that. Around the time Henry was courting her nobody said she was advanced in age unlike Jane Seymour who Chapuys noted was 27/28 y.o. when Henry courted her.

Anne wasn't considered the ideal type of beauty at that time, however I do believe that she was indeed very pretty. The only people who described her as ulgy were her enemies, they even said that she had six fingers on her hand, which it's completely false. Ultimately, Henry probably found her pretty, but it was her personality and charisma what made him fall in love for her.

As I understand from historians, they are not sure this painting is of Anne. She had Auburn hair. The "B" on her necklace is most likely for the surname of a different Noblewoman. Right now I am so tired I forgot that Noblewoman's name! Anne Boleyn Historians are not sure what she looked like or, if there is a painting of her that exists. Henry may have destroyed it. There is only one image of Anne confirmed to be her that is an image on a coin minted for her coronation as Queen. It doesn't resemble the painting put forth as the most popular image of Anne. Katherine Howard, Henry's 5th wife, historians are also unsure if any portrait at all exists? She may have been only 15 when beheaded for affairs with other men before she met Henry. Furious at Katherine, He had quick lime spread on Katherine's body to be sure it dissolved. Because of this act, her grave, is empty.

The Holbein portrait of Anne looks very realistic or at 3:35 reimagined. Dark auburn hair, full lips (wide mouth), long neck, dark sensual eyes, very youthful/exotic looking, and a hint of confidence. There's also the other one where she wears a golden coif also made by Holbein but she seems to be a bit more laid-back in that one.

Following Anne’s execution, Henry had all portraits of her destroyed. The paintings we know of her were painted after her death. The mention of her name was forbidden by Henry. One of her best friends wrote in a letter that she looked "decent enough" but her contemporaries agree that her sharp wit, elegant way of moving and dancing and charm made one forget her appearance. She also most likely wasn't "raven-haired", this was a myth to enforce the legend that she was a witch. Her hair was brown or auburn and she likely had a slight French accent from serving Queen Claude in France since childhood. The most accurate of her on-screen appearances would be Anne of 1000 days

It was popular at that time to have a long thin nose. So artists always tried to make it look like that, even if it wasn't. So u could probably safely shorten it and widen it a little bit to get a more accurate picture. Also all paintings from that time had little pointy chins on everybody.

I know it’s a common thing to say Anne refused to sleep with the king unless they were married because she was ambitious, but how could she possibly think he’d break with the church to marry her? That seems unimaginable at the time. I think it’s more likely she was just trying to refuse him in a way that wouldn’t majorly anger him. She had excellent marriage prospects at the time and Henry kept getting in the way and eventually she must have just accepted her situation with him.

Anne was in love with another man. Henry V111 had his sites set on her. She wanted no part and created distance between them. I believe Henry called her bluff as she would never expect Henry to make her queen. Anne was annoyed that Wolsey disallowed her to see Henry Percy by order of the king. But setting the standard high, she could keep Henry V111 at bay. Unfortunately it didn’t work and she eventually gave in believing he truly loved her. I feel that she didn’t stand a chance.
